Welp. Those kids can say goodbye to ever playing organized high school sports again.

There is an ongoing investigation into the incident.

The ref is considering legal action.

I thought that was their QB who had previously been ejected. Maybe I'm wrong.

I've been following the story on ESPN. Some people claim the ref used racial slurs, specifically the N word which is funny (not haha) because both kids, if leaked info is true, are Hispanic. Of course that's probably just comment board BS. There really is no justification for what they did.

Ref wants ref association to take action and ban players from ever playing at high school level.
Two team mates had previously been ejected.
Pretty dumb, and inexcusable.

I'd be at the prosecutors office first thing Tuesday morning. With a typed statement and the videos burnt on a CD if I was him.

I umpire high school and college baseball and if any player, coach, or fan touched me I would press battery charges at the least. There is no place for this in any game.

Is this criminal activity? Can he press charges?

Yes, many states have specific laws against assault on sports officials. In states that do not have specific statutes, criminal charges such as battery and assault are sufficient for these situations. I know a guy in Indiana who was spat on by a father after a travel baseball game and the father was arrested for battery by bodily waste, a felony in Indiana. He was restricted from all of his son's athletic competitions for two years, subsequently the kid's high school banned him for the kid's whole career. He was only a freshman at the time. Never got to watch him play one high school varsity game.

Yeah the parents are the worst. Absolutely out of their minds crazy. Then people wonder why the kids are so disrespectful and act so badly.

I've been followed to my car by multiple groups of parents before, during travel baseball games. I mean were talking kids from 12 to 15 here. Thank god I do mostly high school, NCAA, NAIA, JUCO, and college summer ball now. Those people have a lot more to lose than the psychos coaching and parenting these travel ball kids.

Completely agree. What would have happened if the ref. saw it coming, and just obliterated the kid in self defense...

This has to be treated as a death sentence to the careers of those two kids because there is really no other deterrent available here. Further, what are they going to do to their history teacher when he/she gives them an F? I'd have expelled them on the spot...wouldn't even have let them on the bus or in the locker room. Done.

Couple things. First, I honestly don't care if the ref called them names. Which I actually highly doubt he did. He would be using a slur in front of tons of people as witnesses and is an adult. Which would be quite coincidental that he did that AND just happened to eject their QB. I simply don't buy it, but if it were true, that doesn't mean it's okay to assault him. If someone on the street yells a racial slur your way, you are still going to jail if you assault him. Maybe this is a life lesson for these kids. That in the real world, you can't just beat up anyone you don't like.

Secondly, this coach needs to be fired and possibly charged with something. What kind of an adult would urge this type of behavior. The kids are responsible for their actions either way, but this man should be ashamed that he urged them to do something that will effect their entire life. One of these kids had scholarship offers to major schools. His career, and possibly any college aspirations, are over.

Mack Breed, a 29-year-old assistant coach at John Jay, was placed on administrative leave for allegedly telling the players that the referee "needs to pay for cheating us," the school district said in a statement Tuesday.
