He'll be a good QB in time, but the level of hype from Wisky fans was overkill.

I don’t think the recruiting services helped with that either. After his AA bowl game performance he was the hottest prospect around.

Couldn't beat out former ND Commit Jack Coan. Starts the season at #2.

When we talk about how Kelly has yet to get “the guy” at QB in a decade at the helm, this is an example of why. Big recruiting miss... not going to overreact to one half of football... but it’s well known that ND was hard after Mertz and flat out got beat.

They got beat but they got behind the 8ball quite bit because they took McNamara and stuck with him for as long as they did. Didn’t offer Mertz until after the decommitment. Sounds like alerts would’ve been ND had they offered him post II like they did McNamara. Certainly a miss but it wasn’t a typical heads up recruiting battle, per se.

And, we all know he wouldn’t be playing right now and would’ve probably transferred because, you know, Book is a winner

Mertz would've never played at ND because no way he could grasp the offense and read defenses. I'm sure he would've been confused in practice and scrimmages.

Yup, and way too many non-football demands on him.

Don’t want to read too much into his performance. Illinois was absolutely dreadful.

100%, not to mention this is all moot -- we know damn well that this guy would never see the light of day over Book anyway. With TB coming in next year, this guy would be transferring out by next summer.

If he has another test come back positive, then it’s automatic 21 day absence. If this happens to Justin Fields, the B1G is done. What a clown show that conference is.

I have a feeling that Justin Fields may never test positive even if his roommate tests positive.

Wolf, Wiscy's 3rd string, also is possible. Both he and Mertz are waiting for results of PCR.
Ouch, could be down to 4th stringer Danny Vanden Boom. Gotta love the name though.

As far as OSU is concerned, yea Fields would be a huge hit. Their second string is a GR. But their 3rd stringer is highly rated Frosh. 98ish I think.

If Justin Fields is the difference between the Big Ten having a team in the CFP and missing out on a spot, no one will have ever tested as negative for COVID-19 as Justin Fields will test negative for COVID-19.

The 21 day absence is so dumb. Let the players test out of it with 3 negatives in a row. Get the heart screening. Let em back. Shouldn’t be more than a 10 day absence especially for those with no symptoms.

It's isolation plus a time period for getting the player into conditioning for football games. The 21 day absence is absence from games, not all football activities.
