Brendon Clark it is then. Sucks to not even get a shot with him on campus, but it happens. Pretty crazy to think we could go from Dylan Morris or Cade McNamara wanting into the class to then Graham Mertz being the shoe-in flip candidate to potentially Brendon Clark. The QB winds blew ND all over the place and they haven’t stopped yet. Good thing 2018 & 2020 are pretty much all settled up.

You just had to say that didn't you? You just had to put that out for the universe to throw it back in our faces. If anything happens to either of those QBs I am placing 100% of the blame on you. (Italics implied...well, actually lets see what happens)

That he "should" be visiting in June is basically all based on Loy at this point. That he's communicating with ND is uninspiring.

*Publicly* there's not much to go on to think that Mertz is any different from any number of recruits who get ND offers, talk to staff, say nice things, and fade into the background. That he's an ND lean, that he will end up at ND, that he'll visit, that he'll commit, that he'll be the NEXT to the commit, is all 100% coming from Loy. Even if he is accurately repeating what the staff tells him, it's not his job to uncritically pass along everything they tell him.

If he's right he'll be right and he deserves our praise, but if he's wrong he'll deserve our scorn. I do think it's that simple.

Oops, did I accidentally just quote this month old post?

Lol, this result doesn’t make that post right. You said that all of this was coming from Loy, wrong. You essentially accused him of fabricating this recruitment, wrong. All ND sites expected Mertz to visit, so wrong there as well. Pretty crazy how almost your entire post is wrong, when the general outcome was right ;)

How can anyone blame this guy? Not many kids know the meaning of "commitment" these days, so this is a breath of fresh air. If you're gonna blame anyone, blame Notre Dame. This is what happens when you slow play a kid. Many times big schools come back around on kids that they would value as plan c, d , or e and the kids fall for it every time. Graham realized that if he was truly wanted by Notre Dame and Ohio State, they would've offered a long time ago.

All ND sites reported that Notre Dame was pushing for him to visit. Loy was the only one reporting that it was all but locked in and that he was ending up at ND in the end. There's only one Notre Dame crystal ball I count on Mertz's page.

I can't stress this enough, buy Loy was asked in May who he thought the next commit was going to be and said Mertz! Before a visit was locked in! Before he even decommited! That's insane.

I don't think he fabricated a recruitment, I think Loy is a reporter who is very good at accurately reporting what the staff thinks, but he does so uncritically. This thread wouldn't have five pages if Loy hadn't been drumming on this beat twice a week for two months.

Is it? For all we really know, he might have had the phone in his hand ready to call BK on numerous occasions.

I think he made a good choice. If he's who we think he is, he'll be a starter in Madison at some point... maybe a multi year starter. There was nothing but clipboards and red hats guaranteed in South Bend.

In reality, the fairly constant articles by Loy and the previously stated "next to commit" probably amped up the pressure on Mertz to the point where Mertz felt he had to shut it down. Loy would do an article and initally the Wisconsin fans were freaking out a bit and the Wisconsin beat reporter would get with Mertz to try to clarify. After 5 or 6 articles it just got to be too much. I wonder if things were a bit more low key, if things would've at least worked out for a visit.

ISD was asked 1 week ago if they expected Mertz to visit ND.

Their response: "Yes".

Are you a member of all the ND sites?

Because all ND sites have said they expected a visit and optimism around his recruitment. Heck, Freeman at ISD said just this morning that ND had a very real chance in this recruitment. And they will not blow smoke for the sake of hits or attention. I’m not sure what else to say. Loy never reported that a visit was locked in. I do not care about Loy enough to defend him but this is a bizarre witch hunt on your behalf. Either you have troubles comprehending information or you are just making this up.

Yes it would, because it wasn’t only Loy that was talking about this. Heck, it wasn’t even just ND sites. It was OSU, A&M, even Stanford recently was part of the discussions. This isn’t difficult to grasp. It wasn’t just Loy.

I listened to the interview you're referencing. Your post is lacking so much context, and I don't care to provide it, but just letting everyone else know.

I can't really fault a talented kid for opting to start for several years at a P5 school but it is Sconny so...nah.

For reals though, Sconny has just needed a good QB to be an actual good team (I don't count these faux 10 win seasons as good teams). The only guy who has been good for them in the past 7 years was Russell Wilson, who was of course was a grad transfer. Maybe Mertz can be that guy, and I'll root for him. But never the badgers

Aren't they coming on our schedule with games in Chicago and Green Bay?

Pretty sad KS can't figure out a way to get Wichita Northwest, Aquinas & Miege in the top division. Miege has been a juggernaut in 4A, beating everyone regardless of division for years until Aquinas knocked em off this year and yet they are still in 4A.

They need to move those programs up after years of dominating lower divisions.

Good luck, not that you'll need it. BVN ended up just the 3rd best BV school this year.

Tie game at the half 10-10. Mertz definitely looks like a 4* QB, but his team doesn’t aside from their RB Amauri Pesek.

Congrats, P_Rose.

Green is perfect: Derby captures third undefeated season in history with state title

Miege won the Kansas state title in 4A for their fifth title in a row, losing just two games to Aquinas and to Rockhurst (Mo) this year. Aqunias won the 5A title. Blue Valley beat the other four BV schools, but lost to Rockhurst by 35. Rockhurst lost in the Missouri 6A championship to Christian Brothers in St. Louis by 24 points. CBC won their second straight title and is QB'd by Blaine Gabbert's brother, Brett, who is headed to Chuck Martin at Miami (O). Gabbert threw for four touchdowns and 311 yards while completing 69 percent of his passes against Rockhurst.

Who was supposed to be guarding the WR, and how did he get that wide open with Mertz staring him down the entire time?

He looked sharp today. I just wonder if he’ll have anyone to throw too.
