Figured this was the announcement where he will NOT enroll at ND but instead play hoops for Jay Wright at Nova.

Tis the season...

Like now that KJ Wallace is an Opening MVP, I refuse to open his thread until after NSD.

If you just go by all-state teams, Jurkovec has few peers in WPIAL history. He was a second-team all-state basketball selection in the largest classification (6A). This came after a football season in which Jurkovec, a stud quarterback headed to Notre Dame, also made all-state in 6A.

After sifting through years of all-state teams, Jurkovec is believed to be the first quarterback from the WPIAL to play in the largest classification and make all-state in both football and basketball.

The last one? Try Bernie Galiffa of old Donora High back in 1967-68.

I expect Phil to raise Beano Cook from the grave, to tell us how many ships he's going to win for ND.

To be fair, Terrelle Pryor was 2x the hooper Phil is. Pryor had a higher hoops ceiling than QB ceiling for sure, maybe football overall regardless of position. Pryor doesn't qualify for this because he played at a small school.

So he's sorta athletic? Is that what the conclusion here is?

Bring us back to the promised land, Lip!

A little misleading in the sense that of course you're going to try and get him in game action. With the new rule, I hope a majority of freshman are getting playing time in some fashion. Would be kind of silly not to. Now, is he going to play enough to where it pulls his RS (more than 4 games), I doubt it.

No, he's just going to come in against scUM and rally us from a 17 point deficit and lead the Irish to a win that will go down in the lores of ND football. Then back to the bench against BSU.

Exactly. There are a number of players the coaches will be able to test in live games and see how they respond. If a player steps up, he may see his redshirt ignited.

It really is a great rule because it allows players to get their feet wet, give them a little seasoning and allows the coaches a true evaluation.

Now hopefully we can run up the score a few times this year to exercise this new rule.

Thinking of the many seasons that might have been had this four-games redshirt rule been in effect before now...

What’s interesting, though, is it comes as fewer and fewer guys seem to stay five years. Aside from offensive linemen we have very few 5Ys lately.

I grew up 30 miles from where this kid is from, I know that part of the state and its people and how they are made/raised/values etc.
If this kid has the talent they seem to think he has we could be in for quite the ride because these kids from back there are tough kids. Montana/Clements/Lujack. The quality of play has dropped a little but the type of good tough kid who doesn't think too highly of himself but is a winner hasn't changed. If you can get a talented kid from this area they are usually solid guys. This might be the one.

Wow. Crazy, especially at that position. That was my freshman year at Notre Dame, and the dawn of the progam's Wilderness Years. So... it's been awhile.

Pretty excellent free story on the young man:

His athleticism is special. Exceptional talent.

Its difficult placing expectations on young guys but he’s that good that it’s hard not to.
