This is it in a nutshell. If BW has grown up, neither Book or St. Phil will be seeing the field except in mop up time.

I truly hope BW nails it this year. This year could be special if he takes the next step.
If he doesn't however, I hope they move on instead of trying to force shit for the remainder of the year. 2019 is going to be a bitch, and we need to end 2018 with a QB growing, not struggling.

50ish days and counting.

No one is saying they hope Phil starts or that Phil is a sure thing starter. People are simply stating that Phil should play as much as possible in mop up and "sure thing" games without worrying about a redshirt or the 4 game limit, because redshirts are historically worthless for ND QBs.

In my unlearned opinion one thing that messed with the Wimbush development is he never had a proper year as the number 2, getting to go in and work things out with not a lot on the line. He went from zero to hero with 2 years of no football.
However they do it, they should give Phil a proper year at some point as the number 2 getting a lot of snaps.
I'd probably let him use his 4 red shirt games up early in the season so as to be able to make a decision whether to then stick with him and burn the red shirt.

I feel ya. But then you risk not giving Book adequate snaps (assuming he's #2 out of the gate). Hoping BW takes a step forward and we beat scUM. Then I hope we pound Ball State by 30 in the first half, and let both Book and PJ play a quarter. We should be able to handle Vandy with ease and get the guys some snaps, but Wake may be another story.

Let's just pray that BW's head is on straight and he kills it.

Wimbush has two years left, right? 2019 could be interesting.

yup.
next year's QB situation makes my head hurt just thinking about it. i try to avoid such thoughts...

Well, ideally, Wimbush gets his head on straight and has a good 2018, with Book as a reliable backup and Phil on the four-game redshirt plan. Then in 2019, BW is a Heisman candidate who leads us to playoff glory while Phil is groomed as #2. Phil then starts for two-to-three years. We win at least one title and he’s a high draft pick before handing the reins to this Pyne kid. And Book always steady, in the wings, is rewarded with a hearty thank you, a degree from the University of Notre Dame and a grad transfer ticket to start at the mid-level P5 of his choosing.
That’s how it’s supposed to work, right?

I really hope it works how it's supposed to work lol.

With our luck, BW continues to struggle this year, and struggles next year leading to a divided locker room. Or BW looks decent and gets hurt, Book takes over, and we have a MZ type of situation next year. Or for whatever reason PJ takes over this year, Book and BW exit in the off season. Or, BW gets kicked off the team, Book struggles and graduate transfers at the end of the season, PJ gets seriously injured, and Avery Davis starts 2019...

stl - see man, you made my head hurt lol.

Reading an article in the Indy Star, BW has taken a positive step from last year. I’ll try to post it tomorrow.

I'll wait to see it on the field. I may need up to 14 games to really believe it.

Word. Improved mechanics and hitting practice swing passes are great news but until we're in a live fire situation, it's all to be taken with a grain of salt.

I hope BW speeds up in games. I love that he's cool and calm but I want him to play with a little more urgency and emotion. He has all the tools, I'm just hoping our line can give him the necessary time to make his reads.

I want to see the look of an ice cold killer in Wimbush's eyes as he cranks up the offense, an iceman on an ice mountain as he sequences his reads, and when they aren't there, a blazing fire of animalism ripping up the field.

Not asking much ... just that little mental thing.

So he needs to basically be a White Walker? Gotcha.

I can't wait to get way too excited about practice footage of 5 star Phil.

In all seriousness, apparently he's been very impressive on campus so far.

That 5*Phil thread on ISD with all of the whiners... SMH

Definitely a faction of NDNationites that moonlight there.

I predict 6 Heismans and 7 National Championships for Phil.

Not happening, he is only eligible for 4.
Actually 5 if he could somehow win the Heisman in a season where he also preserves his red shirt, so he would need to play 4 extremely good games.
