I guess my point was, is whether he makes the Elite 11 or not, has nothing to do with his talent level. They've been historically pretty terrible at judging that event, or at least that event being a predictor of future success.

So we pretty much agree?

Did some digging. The most prolific QBS that were a part of E11 since its inception in 1999 are listed below:

*I'm labeling QBS "prolific" based on any one or combo of:

-Heisman
-Natty
-Top ten draft pick
-10+ starts in NFL

1999: Matt Cassell

2000: Matt Leinart, Kyle Orton, Derek Anderson, Kellen Clemens

2001: Vince Young, Drew Stanton, Troy Smith, Trent Edwards

2002: Chris Leak, Jamarcus Russell

2003: NONE

2004: Mark Sanchez

2005: Josh Freeman, Jake Locker, Tim Tebow, Matt Stafford

2006: Tyrod Taylor

2007: Blaine Gabbert, Andrew Luck, EJ Manuel, *Mike Glennon

*will have 10+ starts this season barring injury

2008: Geno Smith

2009: NONE

2010: Teddy Bridgewater, *Cody Kessler

*Currently has 8 starts

2011: Jameis Winston

2012: Jared Goff

2013: Deshaun Watson

No need to go any further. There's still guys in 2011 class that haven't been drafted yet.

I believe Zaire finished the highest of the group.

Just another reason why few people pay attention to ESPN when it comes to recruiting.

I've not really paid attention to the recruiting sites the last few years but it always seemed that ESPN skewed more towards the Southern players. A site like Scout seemed higher on guys from the Midwest. Not sure if that is very accurate, just seemed like it.

To be clear, (since it's not showing up on Crusader's embed) Phil replied to his own tweet by tweeting to some undecideds

Dear Barton Simmons,

You move Yankoff to #4 because of camps even though he puts up the same #'s per game as Phil J while playing a loaded schedule in Idaho where the toughest opposing player he'll ever see is a NO star. Phil on the other hand is doing it in one of America's best HS areas.

So you didn't like his camp after he had a week to get back into football shape after a run to the state championship in basketball? You don't like his motion? Well watch Lonzo ball go #2 with the most broke ass looking jumper in history.

Sometimes you have to put your self importance aside and admit football is played on weekends in the fall with 21 other guys not at a combine where non-athlete analysts sit around trying to arrange sentences that makes them appear as though they know more than the people they get $10/mo from.

Film for film, you will be hard pressed to find 1 in 10 that would take Yankoff over Jurkovec and the only 4 people that even matter are Brian Kelly, Dabo, Saban and Urban... all who offered Phil and didn't offer Yankoff.

No QB in this class that I'd rather have for ND and ND's offense. Dude's a stud.

Yep, perfect fit for the school and team. He's going to be a good one. This is one of those times when you realize that these "recruitniks" take themselves way too seriously. Phil doesn't have anything to prove to me. I feel pretty confident he doesn't have anything to prove to Coach Long, Kelly, etc. Because his name has surfaced recently, this is similar to Travis Waller being rated, by 247, ahead of Sam Darnold.

Obviously, Travis Jonsen just needs a few semesters at the local CC before he breaks loose

For fun, I went back and looked at 247's QB rankings from 2014 the last time ND signed a tall QB with decent athleticism who didn't look good in camps. Here are the pro style QBs they ranked ahead of Kizer.

1. Kyle Allen. Was mediocre, then transferred.
2. Keller Chryst. Total garbage.
3. David Cornwell. Lol. Was so obviously overrated as a prospect that being from NORMAN-FREAKING-OKLAHOMA he wasn't recruited by the Sooners. 247 rated him a 96. He sucked at Bama and is now at Nevada.
4. Will Grier. Transferred to WVU from Florida, has done nothing.
5. Clayton Thorson. Still at Northwestern, multi-year starter, nothing special. Borderline draft prospect as a senior.
6. Sean White. Been sucking it up at Auburn.
7. Jacob Park. Sucked at Georgia, transferred to Iowa.
8. Brad Kaaya. First player to do anything of note, 6th round pick in NFL draft.
9. Drew Barker. Has done basically nothing at Kentucky.
10. DeShone Kizer. #52 pick in NFL draft.

So of their 9 highly touted QBs above Kizer you have 4 transfers, 3 scrubs, 1 mediocre starter at Northwestern, and 1 6th round pick. Trust the Yalie's QB evaluations at your own peril.

Don't forget Deshaun Watson who was the #2 QB behind Allen. He was listed as Dual obviously.

After looking it up here are others of note:

Pat Mahomes - 3 star - #29 - #10 OA draft pick

Mason Rudolph - 4 star - #21 - 8700 yds passing in 29 games

Wilton Spieght - 3 star - #23 - starter for the Weasels

Watch Phil tomorrow vs. Blue Smith and Huber Heights (OH) Wayne on ESPN at 1:30p EST.

Watch out for 6-2, 225lb Class of '19 LB, #44 Tyler King. He also plays H Back. ND is watching him.

Phil's LT is Andrew Kristofic. A 6-6, 255 Class of '19 prospect. He's currently listed as the #63 OT on 247 Comp.

Other guys who will look like players, RB/CB Jordan Crawford and WR/FS Ray Falcone who had 1400yd / 14 TD / 3 INT last year. Committed to Lehigh. No doubt he could play in the MAC or select B1G / ACC programs.

Wow, that's interesting. Huber Heights is a half hour from me, wonder why they're going to PA for a game? Freshman year we traveled from Ohio to WV for a game once, it was a yearly thing I guess, didn't think this kind of thing happened often though.
