Decommitting to focus on the season? That's a new approach. Usually it's easier not to have every coach and reporter banging down your door, watching your every move, and calling you everyday so you can focus. Not the other way around. But what do I know?

Stay away. The rewards aren't worth the risk for ND, and for most, in fact.

Bumping not because we have a chance with a kid, but because of interesting shenanigans:

https://www.thelantern.com/2017/12/...rom-recruiting-5-star-prospect-micah-parsons/

Self-reported NCAA violations prevent Ohio State from recruiting 5-star prospect Micah Parsons

Five-star defensive end Micah Parsons was once a favorite to land at Ohio State — that was until Ohio State agreed to stop recruiting the class of 2018 prospect because of self-reported NCAA violations that occurred during his official visit on Sept. 9.

Ohio State self-reported the violations to the NCAA on Sept. 26. The violations, which The Lantern obtained through a public-records request, were the result of improper contact that happened during the recruit’s visit to the set of ESPN’s College GameDay at The Oval prior to the Buckeyes’ game against Oklahoma.

And this is what Lax has discussed at length on here. Other programs will self report an incident, give themselves a slap on the wrist, and then when a major violation occurs will turn to the NCAA and say, "Look at us, when we find something we punish ourselves. Give us a break." Turns out, the NCAA does just that.

Meanwhile, ND goes above and beyond to be compliant at all times, reports their own findings (that the NCAA didn't ask for), and the NCAA vacates our wins.

I am not sure what this means. The Ohio State "has agreed to stop recruiting him," but will they still take his commitment? In short, what is left in the process, he had his trip, the cash is likely in hand already and partly spend, and his new car isn't even due for its first oil change. What's left an in home visit?

Perfect match as far as I'm concerned. Two entities that are absolutely made for one another.

Just saw in this article that he's going to start at MLB for Penn State. Kid will be an absolute monster if he sticks there.

https://247sports.com/Article/The-All-Impact-Team-2018-recruits-who-will-play-right-away-114847871

Middle Linebacker

Micah Parsons, Penn State: Long projected as an edge rusher, Parsons will begin his Penn State career as a middle linebacker. He’s never played the position before, but here’s to betting the 6-foot-3, 235-pound freak athlete can handle the transition. He started watching video of Sean Lee well before enrolling at Penn State, and he’s more than intelligent enough to pick up the position quickly. Brent Pry had a need at MIKE and believed Parsons could fill it. He’ll have competition from fellow early enrollees Jesse Luketa and Nick Tarburton at the position. But Parsons will play in 2018 either way. The nation's No. 5 overall prospect is far too talented not to.

Really feels like a convenient excuse. Your telling me this kid is going to totally isolate himself until the draft? Not gonna happen. Kid just didn't want to risk injury and has a great cop out.

Rashod Bateman the WR from MN is doing the same thing.

I expect many other high profile juniors who are going to leave after this year to do the same thing.

It's not that someone has to totally isolate themselves, but if the guy (or other hypothetical guys) feels like playing this year would be taking too many unnecessary risks, not sure I can blame him.

I mean, you can say that his chances of catching and having dangerous side effects from COVID-19 may be small, but it is just another potential career ending thing that could happen.

He would likely play if he felt like his draft stock depended on it, but if he thinks it's a better bet to sit, again, I'm not sure you can blame him. This will only get more and more popular among players who have little to gain by playing the season, and the more popular it is, the less likely it is to hurt their draft stock, I would imagine.

Though it may give some guys the chance to have a shot at getting drafted that may otherwise not have it which may be interesting.
