Nah, I'll hope he does well if he signs.

I just think it's a really bad message to send as a program to recruit a kid who said and did what he did... how do you preach commitment or respect for coaches during the year if you let him back in the fold and he's one of the guys in the locker room?

Since decommitting from Oregon, he's found time to troll a state representative (and obviously the state rep started it) but not to acknowledge his bullshit from that interview or his follow up quotes. It used to be if you called someone a "liar" that meant fists were going to get thrown or guns drawn... now it's just pretend it didn't happen without even an apology. We're talking about a west coast kid with a ton of red flags that's a hard pass for me. I'd be all-in on Keys.

I didn't like the comment he made either, but in all fairness, the apology is not owed to us and who knows what has been said behind closed doors.

CAVEAT *** I didn't like the comments at all

I guess the staff could show maturity and act like the grown-ups? I mean, sure, when people were 17 and they lied to each other, they likely fought about it. But even our youngest staff member is double that age (Long). I'm sure the coaches discussed it with him and I'm sure everyone heard what they needed. And I highly doubt the coach's egos are fragile, they'd demand a public apology.

If he comes to ND, we'll be happy to have him. And we'll hope he's not a repeat offender. Young kids say and do regretful things, time to move on. Even if he doesn't come to South Bend.

Do people not get how public perception matters? Like, I'm coaching a team of kids Braden's age right now... if someone went on social media and blasted the coaches they'd almost certainly be off the team. It is Team Cancer 101 to have someone on the team that is disrespectful of authority or undermining leadership... when someone is doing that BEFORE THEY ARE EVEN ON THE TEAM that is the biggest red flag of all time.

He has had many opportunities to show contrition publicly and that's what matters... no one cares what is said behind closed doors. If you give someone a free pass then it sends a message to every other prospect out there that they can get away with whatever nonsense they want with no consequences.

He said he was lied to by honorable men. Bush league comment.

But he was goaded by a reporter who was looking for the money quote, and for all we know, he truly thought he was lied to by the ND staff. Maybe it was a true miscommunication of his intentions and how the ND staff would handle it, and he thought he had been lied to?

It doesn't jive with what his dad said about the original decommitment, but there are plenty of kids out there that ignore/disregard what their parents say.

Right, so to be completely objective here the timeline is:
1. Commits. Says later that he made an impulsive decision following his visit.
2. While committed, he BS'd the other current commits and media about his status. Other members of the class were extremely unhappy when he decommitted and felt lied to.
3. Decommits, says one thing.
4. Later gives quotes saying something completely different. In these quotes, calls ND staff liars and dishonorable.
5. When pressed on the quotes by people saying "umm, you know there are tons of successful two-sport athletes on ND's football team right...?" He basically doubles-down on being lied to and says he's the only one speaking the truth because he "lived it."
6. Less than a month later, he initiates contact with these same coaches he called out saying that he's interested.
7. He decommits from Oregon, and gets into a Twitter spat with a local elected official.
8. He is now currently waffling on what he wants to do with his future, and is more likely than not going to go back to the staff that actually lied to him.

Is that a west coast recruit we should be using a scholarship on? Is that the profile of a kid that is usually successful at ND? IMO, the answer is obviously no to both of those.

Not true. As has been mentioned multiple times, we really don't know everything that has taken place. Each situation is unique to its own. He may have apologized personally and the staff said that was fine and time to drop it.

So would you be accepting of a team where players trash coaches on Twitter and then apologize behind closed doors with no repercussions or public acknowledge of wrong doing?

IMO this guy is iffy and it won't bother me if he ends up someplace else. I'm only commenting to the actions that have taken place to date. If the staff is happy with where they stand with him fine, so be it.

That's fair, and in a sense I'm more criticizing ND coaches here than I am Braden. The coaches decide who they want to recruit and what kind of culture they want to have on their team.

Imagine someone like Alize Mack came out in an interview and said "These coaches suck. They lied to me about getting me the ball. This offense is terrible." And then didn't apologize publicly. I'd imagine most us would think he should be off the team, right? That's sort of how I view this situation... like the hypothetical of current player trashing the integrity of the coaches.

So I just see it as a mistake for them to be actively pursuing him even with the desperate need for some speed at WR. We'll see what happens though... taking a flier on someone with upside isn't the worst thing in the world, you just can't do this a multitude of times because that's how you end up with depth holes.

No not really. Ezekiel Elliot did basically exactly this but also helped them win a national championship. If he makes the team better, is able to stay eligible, and doesn't commit violent crimes sign me up.

No, he didn't. He did criticize some play calling, and then in basically the same breath said "eff this I'm headed to the NFL." He was already on his way out of the program, so it's a moot point saying what he did at the end of the season... and he never attacked the integrity of the coaches in the slightest in his comments.

He won a national championship BEFORE criticizing the coaches.

I kinda agree with this sentiment.....

There are a number of football players still available and so few scholarships left....

no sense killing yourself trying to squeeze a round peg into a square hole.....

Let the guy go where he wants to focus on track and football and tweet all day everyday about whatever he wants.....

This kid will not make or break this class!

Yeah, 25 receptions in 9 games would still be quite "meh"... and that's an understatement.

From what I can tell, the 1st and 2nd string QB's went down with injuries early in the season and they were forced to play a Freshman at QB. They chose to run the ball more than normal.

This is all true too. Lenzy had like 250 yds rushing through the first 5 games also.

Still... if you're gonna be a RB/WR/DB, put up some Tariq Bracy #'s. If they run a balanced attack, put up 1000 both rushing and receiving like Bracy did as a Jr. If you have a WR to take up the slack and your team runs more, put up 2000 yds on the ground and 300 yds receiving add to that 3-5 Int's, some Pick 6's & PR/KR TD's. ND level guys need to produce in HS.

Does Brey recruit guys who can run, jump & have a perfect looking jumper but average 6 ppg & 3 rpg in HS?

I want to see guys who produce significant #'s, play on championship level teams and who aren't injured all the time. I'm not a shade thrower by nature but go through the guys ND was heavily involved with this season and check those 3 categories.

If Lenzy were to go somewhere else, the staff better hope they land Keys. I don't think they are even in play for anyone else besides these two guys. No, I do not count ASB.

Analyst for eDuck CB's Lenzy to Oregon.

Also CB's Cota to UCLA. Seems fair and balanced.

Since he's being recruited to play WR. I could really care less where he ends up now. If it were DB, it'd be a different story.

Nothing to base this on, but I have a feeling if had never decommitted, he would probably flip at the last second leaving us high and dry.
