According to a source, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chip Long will go in-home on Wednesday with Portland (Ore.) Tigard four-star wide receiver Braden Lenzy.

The 6-0, 175-pound football and track star was once committed to Notre Dame, but chose to de-commit and flip to the in-state Oregon Ducks on June 14. While we're told Lenzy remains firm in his pledge to the Ducks, uncertainty surrounding the status of head coach Willie Taggart has caused him and others in that committed class to keep dialogue open with other coaching staffs.

As of now, this is simply an in-home visit between Lenzy and an Irish coach. There have been a few phone calls between the two parties, but nothing regarding a visit to South Bend is set or in the works at this time. We'll likely know more following Wednesday's meeting.

Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Lenzy is the No. 251 overall player nationally, No. 10-athlete in the country and No. 5 prospect in Oregon from the 2018 class.

Before I park my high horse, are we certain he was talking of ND coaches?

He did an interview with the Oregon site where he specifically said that about the ND staff. It was very public. I actually re-read it today.

thanks LL.
obviously the kid feels lied to. do we know any details?
i'll bash the kid for saying shit publicly way after the fact, but won't bash him if we promised him something and changed our tune.

Yeah what's the context here?

The football staff at ND told him he could run track, and cited Troy Pride as an example of someone currently doing so. Apparently they did make it clear that as a player on football scholarship, football duties would still need to be met when he didn't have track-specific activities.

Fast-forward to his flip to Oregon, his father said in a very well-reasoned explanation that Oregon was offering him the chance to put his full attention on track when it wasn't football season. The context clues seem to show that ND wanted him to honor spring football commitments if he wasn't at specific track events, whereas Oregon wouldn't make him participate in Spring football if he wanted to focus solely on track.

Fast-forward again to the week before ND plays Miami, and a reporter goads Lenzy into making comments about how he was "lied to" by the ND coaching staff about the level of commitment he would be able to give to track in South Bend. He said he was "lied to by honorable men," even though there would literally be no reason for the coaching staff to lie about the situation, considering Troy Pride is right there doing both as an example. Things should have been perfectly clear to Braden, and his father's initial explanation seemed to show that they did understand, and just thought the situation at Oregon would be better.

So either Lenzy's father was trying to be the bigger man when he offered his initial explanation and was actually just declining to blast the ND staff for some shady *promises* they made that they didn't intend to keep, or else Braden himself was goaded into giving clickbait quotes by a reporter that convinced him that he was lied to by the ND staff even though he really wasn't and knew the situation, at which point Lenzy embraced that angle and talked some unnecessary shit.

Fast-forward to now, and the new "honorable men" that Lenzy has pledged himself to are already recruiting for Florida State LOL, potentially re-opening the door for ND to clear the air.

Amazing how timing is everything. If this FSU saga happens 3 weeks ago I think Chip Kelly is headed back to Eugene. At least Phil Knight would have the opportunity to fly the PJ to New Hampshire and show him the cheddar he could give him.

The kids #'s don't support being a track star. Maybe that finally has sunk in? Dad's a BIG deal at Nike but he's not an Oregon/Nike guy. He's a midwestern guy from a lil Catholic school. That can't hurt.

No, I mean staff members that are projected to follow Taggart to FSU are (supposedly) already contacting recruits on behalf of FSU, even though they are still technically at Oregon.

This situation is not sitting well with Oregon fans, needless to say. Taggart is blowing up bridges with this situation.

I thought the comments some coaches made to footballscoop said it perfectly.....he will be branded a liar and will have an uphill battle in front of him.

No info, but it seems like a decent bet that he'd go to UCLA. Doubt he's burned any bridges there, yet..

on one hand, I want to be in the playoffs and we don't have enough talent to get there, and we should take every kid we can who's talented.

on the other, it takes a special level of immaturity and/or stupidity to throw shade on a staff publlically that is not even true.

like, who does that?

Not trying to defend Braden, because I think his comments were bush league, considering the perfectly reasonable explanation that his own father had dropped months prior.

BUT, he's a high school athlete talking to a professional reporter... reporters are good at getting the quotes they want, even when they're talking to people familiar with the media. Combine that, with the possibility that Braden truly wasn't totally clear on what the ND staff had been telling him about a compromise with track, and I can see how he'd take the "I was slighted!" angle.
