Member how from the beginning Dallas wasn't able to come to Junior day because he had another commitment? Like taking the ACT?
Anyone else notice how his plans have changed?
I am telling you this is Lea, and Elko.
Man, that picture from last year is a good representation. That is the way he smiles. I wonder if you can see the character?
Or the intelligence? His face looks just like his mom! He gets his character from both his mom and his dad, there are smarts enough to go around on both side.
But his mom has that special, combination of intelligence, purpose, kindness, concern, and self-discipline that affects everyone around her. He got all of that and a little style of his own, to boot. Oh yeah, and speed. Lateral speed.
Dallas is a really humble guy, that has every reason not to be. He just goes out and does things, and achieves at a really high level, including things that most people his age couldn't. The one thing he goes a little peacock on his his varsity jacket.
At SJJ, from day one, a varsity jacket, exactly like ND's has been the norm. Dark navy, with black leather sleeves, and gold piping. We kept everything plain. I never had a freshman or JV jacket, so I don't remember those traditions. But we never even put our varsity letter on our varsity jackets. They only went on our sweaters.
Things changed over time, and a SJJ varsity jacket began looking just like ND's with the varsity letter displayed. Well, to say Dallas has taken that, and decorating his jacket to an art form, is an understatement. It is a work of art! I who am a traditionalist about such things usually, am just awed by it! I commented on how beautiful it was to his mom recently, and she looked at me.
She said, "And you know what? After all that work, and he just told me that it's too small! Can you imagine? He's outgrown it!"
Yeah, I can imagine, and that is what I am counting on! Dallas is at least the height listed. But every time I see him, which isn't that often, and usually it's in passing, he looks bigger to me. His male kinfolk are pretty big. Some were star linemen. So this kid is wiry, but solid now, but he is going to be plenty big for a linebacker by the time he gets into college.
By the way, the Gant kid that played for Sylvania Southview, then Michigan, isn't really a relative of his as has been reported. Michigan would have been an early favorite, and may be becoming one, but at first they thought the kids were cousins, and that they wouldn't have a shot with Dallas because they screwed the other guy over so badly. (Some assumption, not mine, but I think its true.)
People probably won't forget who was in it from the beginning, however.
