That's what I thought I read before too but clarified this morning it's this weekend. I think he's probably an insurance plan for Bama, although I personally think he's good enough to play anywhere. His strength, really polished technique, ability to both bull rush and shed blocks/bring it from the edge makes him a top 150 pick all day for me. As time goes on, I think less and less of rankings. Not only are they biased per his much $ they shell out for "evaluation camps" but they're off by lots in so many cases and don't tell the story regarding schematical fit.

First time watching his tape and I agree. Plays VERY physical and with great pad level. Reminds me of watching Shembo play.

I've been concerned with the reports of Vann's height being 6-1. Here's a picture of him with Coach Fickell who used to be 6-4. This makes me feel better.

Driskell stating he's hearing Vann isn't a part of ND's plans right now. Vann also tweeted out back to square one on Thursday which Driskell said coincides with what he was hearing.

I can't wait till next year when I have a full season of Elko/Lea offers to know what to look for. I always though Vann was an undersized SDE. Maybe Bama wants to put him at ILB. He's almost big enough to play that for them.
What's really bothersome is they've been wasting Coach Stepp's efforts for 2 months. You have any idea what his hourly value is?
So right now, the new regime has Daniel Carson as their #1 SDE, Micah Parsons as their #1 WDE and Joseph Ossai & Malik McClain as their #2 - #3's.
Micah Parsons is going to be SDE sized and I'll believe he's an option when he flips. Everybody and their mamas have Ossai heading to College Station. I like his game cuz i liked Jalen Harris' game but once again, I'll believe it when I see all the CB's head upstream to South Bend.
Now McClain... I did some digging and I like what I hear more and more about him. Malone Mataele tweeted out that McClain runs 4.5's and that he's the best athlete on the westcoast. He's a late bloomer, was a 5-10 180lb OLB when he was in GA.

If the staff passes on Vann, I think it'd be a pretty huge mistake. If it's a numbers crunch thing, then that'd be partially his fault for extending his recruitment and taking visits. On the other hand, it's stupid to recruit a kid hard and have him telling everyone that he's going to ND and then decide you don't have room for a tweeter. Like always, I think you sign up as many good football players as you can, and I think he's a very good football player.

Hasn't ND been recruiting Vann since his sophomore season?? I agree with Lax with ND passing on Vann and with him waiting until summer to decide isn't too late. Get him to the Irish Invasion and let him start the hot streak of recruits committing after that event.

Interested to hear how that conclusion was made on the top of the board prospects. I don't believe that statement is entirely accurate.

I have a feeling that Malik was getting ready to announce for us and called up the coaches and they told him that his offer isn't commitable. What the hell is this staff thinking? Yeah let's wait around for guys who aren't even going to visit here then miss out on DE's again.
Why dude? He's a good player but scheme fit has to come into play here. BVG offered Vann and who knows how much Elko likes even recruited this guy. I know the commits went after him but how hard did our staff. We already have the twins so let's swing for the fences here. It's only February so maybe after a strong senior season we could go down this road. Feel like Vann will have hard feelings but who knows.
I like Vann as a player nut aren't to many great 6'0 DE's. If he was 6'3 he would be committed to us. I think it's the reason that Iowa kid and O'Rourke haven't been offered because staff is swinging for the fence and I love it. If it was December then I would start being worried. He doesn't fit the scheme for Elko just like Schutt didn't fit the scheme of Diaco.
I'll be very interested to see if Vann wants to wait a couple months and is still able to commit to Bama. Bama throws a lot of offers out there but then say come camp with us and we will make it official. This is the same school who told a top 75 player to greyshirt. So let's wait and see here. I wish Malik the best and he's gonna go to a great college and I'll be keeping an eye on him in the future

Dude it's not like that at all. It's February and we already have two Dlinemen committed. It's the reason the Iowa kid and O'Rourke haven't been offered yet. For a guy who attempts to follow recruiting as much as you do I hope you would have a general concecpt on the situation.
Plus did anyone see Vann as a speed edge rusher? In my opinion he's a SDE and it's not something that is a glaring need. Talent might not be what it should but we just got Kofi and Myron plus the one of the twins. Think we are okay here.
If we have only five commits right now is Vann in this class? Maybe, but this all started making sense and people should have seen this coming after all the offers out to speed rushers and DE's.
