Always the most vocal ones that don't end up in the class or panning out.

Sounds like they tried to work with him through it. Sounds like they are going to continue to help him find a home.

I disagree with helping. If you want see how he is doing fine but helping nah the hell with that.

I have read here and elsewhere that we do make acedemic exceptions for athletes. Especially looking into combining non scholastic activities to bolster the resume above just gpa and test score. Now if this young man goes on to graduate from Cathedral (a relatively elite private indiana catholic school) and can not then get wiggled into Notre Dame? I just find that implausible.

Yeah, seems like that. Chris Martin, Elijah Hood, Blake Barnett, etc...

Excited about quoting myself. Guess I can add him to the list of these guys that were "all in" for ND.

He went above and beyond to recruit on ND behalf. He did everything he could to get admitted. And you want to just cut off 100% contact and hang him out to dry?

What’s wrong with trying to get an offer where he can get accepted?

When people ask how academics hurt Notre Dame compared with other schools, they do.

Because he is not going to end up at miami of ohio or even IU. He is going to end up with Satan at Ohio State or running against us at USC. It is kind of a prime example of the self defeating situations ND finds itself in.

Maybe he should have worried about his grades and stayed off twitter.

You don't help competition at all. Like i said if if you want to keep contact as a coach to see how he is doing that's fine and a good thing to do. But to help him with another school now that's bullshit!

Maybe you "help" him land a school we don't play to keep him from landing at a school we do?

Seriously what's wrong with making a few phone calls to help a kid land on his feet when he's a longtime commit who doesn't work out on the academic side? It's the right thing to do.

Well, unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, relationships built on genuine honesty and care have to account for a person's humanity (or not). I'm not trying to be overly moralistic here, but these are people we are talking about, and he is still a young man with much to learn. Who better to teach than the ones with life experience?

The last thing Markese needs is ND's help to get a scholarship. That gesture was probably floated because they kept him in the fold for so long trying to get him through admissions. He gets the high ground to deco and reopen his recruitment.

Sucks. Kid did a LOT of early work on this class which some tend to forget was formed prior to the 4-8 debacle and held together because of a core or RKG's.

I'd love to see him find a place where he's the feature back in the class. A lot of Indy guys heading to Iowa this cycle and he'd be a good fit at MSU I think. Just anywhere but SCUM pretty please.

I hope the injury bug is behind him and best wishes to my fellow Hoosier.

Yeah, call up Sanford at WKU let him know the deal and let Markese know he would be in good hands and then we don't have to worry about him running all over us one day.

Nice post. Hopefully, he finds a place that is not a rival of ours, and then absolutely tears it up. By all accounts, he really did support the Irish when they were looking the worst. I’m sure he was on the end of some jokes for that, so much respect and hope he succeeds wherever he goes.

Maybe you can pull your head out of your a$$....... there's plenty of reasons to help the kid out. Most of all, if nothing else, you keep a good relationship with the coaching staff at Cathedral, and at the very least, just because he couldn't get the necessary scores/grades, the kid wanted to be Irish, helped recruit other kids, and it's the classy thing to do. You don't like that, then go root for one of the $EC schools who have no qualms of letting kids go for a better athlete, or tOSU & that $hithole up north.

You're only young once, but you can be immature forever.

Sadly, you prove the proverb.

So Holtz and ND are bullshit? When Randy Moss couldn't sneak by ND Admisssions, Lou called Bobby Bowden helping Moss get into FSU. I can recall quite a few other recruits like Aldo de la Garza who had the grades and the required courses for ND but repeatedly failed to achieve a required test score. He went up to NSD trying to clear the last hurdle to get into ND but he didn't make it. Like Stepp his heart was with ND. Aldo ended up at A&M. He probably didn't need a reference but his ND recruiter made one to A&M on his behalf.

It speaks to the caliber of the recruit, the coach, and Notre Dame. You forget about what ND is at its core. Shame on you.

Best of luck to the young man. He was arguably one of the most ardent recruiters for the '18 class. Assisting him going elsewhere is the right thing to do, no matter who it is.

WTF is Denson doin? He visits on Friday and this dude decommits on Saturday. I think he’s going to USC but hopefully we have a chance at a recommit in the future. Still 2 months til Signing day.

Not too surprised due to the smoke that's been around for a while, but still disappointed. Good luck, Stepp, but may you never play well against ND

Seems I recall reading a while back that he's was not a solid commit. Cathedral is a highly regarded private academic school, but it's been known for a long long time that Cathedral (in all sports) will recruit and "help" the athletes that need "help" if you know what I mean.

If "help" is giving grades then that's wrong and they are doing longterm damage to the kids. If it means going out of their way to tutor the kid, that's fine and what they should do. ND does the same thing. JUCO football is full of thousands of kids who went through public schools, remained eligible but then failed to qualify for a 4 yr. scholarship. If Markese ends up at a JUCO, I'll be shocked.

Wish the kid best of luck thankfully it isn't an area of need, I didn't think we needed 2 in this class anyways, we could use the extra scholarship for a Defensive player. We will have good depth at RB next year, Josh Adams( I think he should return), Dexter, Tony Jones, Mcintosh, and CJ Holmes plus the other kid smith coming in.

I was thinking the same. Though I liked what Markese brought to the table regarding his potential at RB and his enthusiasm for ND (and his recruiting efforts) I was a little concerned about him as appearing to be prone to injury. 1 RB in this class (with similar RB styles) would be sufficient and use the other spot for a much needed Defensive player.

Good luck in your hunt for the "right" school, Markese!

I'm talking about having the grades and money to get into the school. Cathedral doesn't accept anyone who wants to go there.

Definitely a good pickup for the Boilers.
