Wiltfong said something pretty close to that. But USC has about 4 or 5 receivers ahead of Javon so he might never get a chance. Oregon is also a team that could be there till the end

Crusader is about to fight Wiltfong on this one...hardcore.

Not at all. If he said it then it's gold. The only person I've listened to more carefully is Alan Greenspan.

SC has 2 committed at WR and have locals, Tyler Vaughns, Jack Jones, Dylan Crawford, Trevon Sidney, Brandon Burton, David Long and N'Keal Henry (from AZ) with heavy interest. They can't all go there and some won't go there when they find out they aren't #1 or #2 on SC's board. Long, Jones and Burton are probably better on the defensive side of the ball but SC plays them where they want and all of these guys are all good two ways except for McKinley and maybe Crawford (not sure about him).

Here's the text

Corona (Calif.) Centennial wide out Javon McKinley took his second visit this spring to Notre Dame and said the Irish made a big impression on him.

Javon McKinley came out with a top six list not too long ago and he has since cut one team from his board.

“My top five right now, no order, is Notre Dame, USC, Oregon, Ohio State and Tennessee,” McKinley said. “I’m not looking at Miami any more so those are my main five. I’m going to take my official visits in the fall and then make a decision. I’ve been to USC and Notre Dame and camped at Oregon last year.

“So the plan for me is to take official visits to Ohio State and Tennessee for sure and maybe a few others before I make my decision. I won’t be making a summer commitment, I’m just not ready right now to decide anything. If I knew where I wanted to go, I would commit now but I really have no idea.”

McKinley visited South Bend with his B2G 7v7 squad earlier in the spring and was back at Notre Dame this past weekend for Irish Invasion.

“I liked it there a lot,” McKinley said. “I got in on Thursday and met up with Coach Sanford, who’s my primary recruiter. We drove around in a golf cart and he showed me the campus. I met up with some of the players on the team and then we ate dinner, it was a pretty mellow day.

“Friday was like a camp and a Junior Day all rolled in to one. We toured the campus again, saw the locker room, weight room and I spent a lot of time with the coaches. I’m still injured so I didn’t work out but watched the camp and that was cool since there were athletes from all over the country. Chacho (Ulloah) worked out and did really well, he’s so technically sound and knows how to play the position compared to some other guys who just rely on their athleticism.”

McKinley said the players took part in a photo shoot on Saturday and he had a few more meetings with the coaches before heading home.

“I talked with Coach Sanford some more and we went over the offense and how they would use me,” McKinley said. “They want to move me all over to take advantage of mismatches and I like how I fit in there. I talked with Coach Denbrock and met with Coach Kelly too. He wanted to make sure I saw everything I needed to see and told me how much they want me.

“Overall it was a great visit, a lot more thorough than the other visit I took there. I had a lot more one on one time with the coaches and saw a lot more of the campus. Notre Dame is a very solid option for me right now and I’m definitely going to be giving them a hard look.”

McKinley said he may visit USC on Wednesday but will put recruiting on the backburner for the rest of the summer.

"USC has their Rising Stars Camp tomorrow so I might stop by," McKinley said. "I can't work out yet, I'm still trying to get 100% for The Opening in July so I've been taking it easy and rehabbing. USC is a school very high on my list and I have a lot of interest there.

"They already have a couple of receivers committed but that won't really play a factor for me. I'm not going to speed up my decision before I see some other schools first. Like I said before, right now, I'm still really open to all my favorites and want to go and check them out first before I can make a well thought out decision."

Regardless of how this plays out, kid seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders.

Exactly, can do nothing but root for these type of kids. I think if he decides this summer it's USC if not it will probably be ND. Might work out like an ESB situation.

I'd be shocked if he ended up anywhere but Notre Dame. Distance isn't a factor, but that is one advantage USC does have over ND. I mean, who wouldn't want their friends and family closer. But, in the grand scheme of things, he is fine with leaving the West Coast and doesnt think the travel is that far.

The biggest thing with him, as with 99% of kids, is just feeling comfortable with the team. He got to really experience that last weekend and really felt comfortable with the team. He knows he would be very successful at Notre Dame on and off the field, it's just a matter of him taking the rest of his visits and feeling the same way.

This is recruiting boiled down to its finest point. Distance and early playing time are factors, but how a kid feels about potential teammates and the school and athletic environments is the final factor. This is why I don't get angry at most of these kids for the choices they make. I just get disappointed that they didn't choose my favorite school.

wiltfong and bartlow CB'D HIM ND

Per Bartow's sources, the Trojans will focus their efforts on other targets for the time being.

So basically they are picking Notre Dame because USC is pretty much pushng away from the buffet table that is California wide receivers, not because he actually would pick them other wise.

he wants to feel wanted...ND has def done that...he isn't as high on their board and will likely be filled before he decides...so usc had been in contact w/ him but it appears they are now focusing harder on the others

Suckers! They doubted you Javon, dont give those chumps a second chance! They are more interested in Vaughn and Sidney... two guys you TORCHED on your playoff run last year. Good news now is you get to remind them every year what a huge mistake they made. Fight OFF! Bwahahahaha!

This is GREAT news. Michael Pittman is so far down the California tree this year when it comes to WR's.

ND may get one or none but as long as these guys are going to schools other than SC, I'm thrilled.

When this cycle started and SC was coming of sanctions, I was afraid they would have a haul that included McKinley, Vaughn, Crawford, Long, Jones, Sidney, Howard & Burton but now it looks like a lot of this talent is going other places. Thank goodness!
