Isn't it amazing when you have a DC that is also a good recruiter? BVG not only killed our defense on the field, he killed the defenses of the future by half assing it on the trail. Lea has done a great job of fixing the years of mistakes by BVG.
The 2018 and 2019 defensive classes are just the beginning to what will hopefully be some dominant defenses.
Aren't some of our seniors and Juniors on this D recruits from BVG era?

I wonder what the odds are for Houston to move outside and play opposite Pride next year
I hope really low cause he could be a decent corner, but a great safety. I'd rather he be a great safety. Don't think his coverage ability is amazing and that's a huge requirement for the CB position
I hear that but Kyle Hamilton is going to blow up that narrative at FS.. This spring I think the prudent thing to do is to give HG plenty of options at both CB and S positions.I hope really low cause he could be a decent corner, but a great safety. That's not a valid argument BTW one could say the same about HG.So was Max Redfield.....

If Todd Lyght, Terry Joseph, and Clark Lea agree that Houston Griffith will be best long term at Corner then I’m all for it, but if it’s a case of flip flopping him from Nickel to corner to safety based on need then it would be silly cause they’ve recruited really well and I hope they can get the best players at their best positions. I understand you want to get the most talented 4-6 guys playing DB to get on the field but they will develop better probably with their focus being on a singular position. Master of one instead of good at some.
B/t Griffith, Derrik Allen, and Kyle Hamilton, something has to give, assuming all three pan out, which is a big assumption. I'm not against HG at CB if that means all three of these (again, assumed) studs can get on the field together down the road.
Allen could easily move to Rover or Buck in the next year, like Drue Tranquill. If he's a thumper, then it probably makes the most sense to move him near the line of scrimmage and let him cover a slot receiver/TE/RB while supporting the run.
Then Griffith and Hamilton lock down the two safety positions (theoretically).

Griffith will never be a good CB at ND. I doubt he even plays there. He got bumped to FS at IMG when Greg Newsome transferred in for their senior years. He's a safety and he could play either one. He has some big boy genes too so don't be surprised to see him carry a lot more weight.
It's obvious that ND has more pegs than holes at DB & LB. And we are in for a wild ride as they figure out who goes where and who defects.

I suppose if any of the secondary/LBs can't get meaningful minutes, there's a lot of athleticism that could be tested on offense.
