He's got offers now from Clemson, Ohio State, and ND. And he is strangely still an 84 rating on composite, despite being an Under Armour All-American.

And we told him not to visit because we "ran out of room"... it's hard, because this is what happens when you don't over-recruit and instead trust the word of people who tell you're they're in.

That should be super easy to spin on an official visit or during an in-home.

"Hey, we don't promise spots that we don't have, and we don't risk over-signing because we believe everyone deserves a chance to finish what they start here. We don't push guys out. At the time that we slowed down contact with you, it was because we thought a spot was spoken for, and we didn't want to pressure you about it."

Guys, he had no hard feelings right after ND told him not to visit, and said he'd still be interested in visiting if they wanted him to. He got it and respected it. He got it right away. This looks good.

He plays a lot of zone and man coverage in his film, both at a high level. I think he'd come in pretty polished and be ready to contribute.

I would love to be in the room when BK gives his pitch. If he's still visiting after being spurned (regardless of how nicely it was done) he must have a real desire to go to ND. This may not be a slam dunk, but I like the odds, especially with signing day only two weeks away.

I think it's pretty easy to spin: we had a guy who we liked equally, who we had been talking with for months and had all but given us a verbal commitment. We thought we owed it to him. Now that it's clear that he wasn't as upfront as we were, we want you on board.

And honestly, I think guys in his situation are a bit humbled to begin with. Neither Clemson, ND, nor Ohio State are coming at him like he's CB number one who they've wanted all this time. Every knows what's what.

This is now a prayer/food thread in the hopes that Brown commits.

I don't think he's even visiting Clemson, oddly enough. That Clemson CB was after ND didn't want to Brown to visit, so it might have been "he's clearly jumping ship, Clemson's easily the best remaining school."

I'm also seeing OSU didn't even offer until January 15. We offered in November. I think they're the school to beat, but given the longer relationship and the other schools he's interested in (Cal, Northwestern, originally UVA) I think they're pretty damn beatable.

Very nice.

I love the fact that Northwestern offered on Monday and he's visiting tomorrow and Saturday. Shows what kind of schools are getting priority. Clemson, Nebraska, SCar all shut out.

If only OSU wasn't sitting there on Feb 2nd.

This is great news! While I think they should have pushed for him, this is the fruit of being honest with him rather than slow-playing.

Damn good news this fine morning. Some folks on 247 were freaking out about CB recruiting yesterday, shocker, and Loy said "patience, my friend". That quiet confidence must have been alluding to this. I sure hope we crush this visit.

This is good news and I liked Brown quite a bit compared to some others. So hopefully we close here.

But wasn't long ago when all the talking heads we're telling us to RELAX about CB recruiting, then two guys balked and we told one (who thankfully isn't taking it personal) not right now, getting left with just Bracy who could swap sides.

So, imo, it's still a concern, Loy's confidence shouldn't change that.

Wilkins makes 2 CB's, possibly 3 as the staff has already said Griffith is going to start at Boundary CB. Feel pretty confident that Bracy is going to start at CB considering we are going after C'Bo pretty heavily. I'd be fairly surprised if we can't flip C'Bo.

The crazy thing to me is that we already signed Wilkins, Bracy, and Griffith... I understand some of those are "flex" guys but I dunno why anyone would be freaking out about CB recruiting with or without DJ Brown.

Because that's what goes down at 247.

As I've said on here numerous times that board is a disaster. It's the wild west of terrible opinions, Monday morning quarterbacking, and sky is "constantly" falling.

Where as Mike Frank will come out and squash overly negative posting as they aren't productive or make sure posters aren't making up rumors. 247 does none of that.

I am by no means freaking out, maybe folks were at 247, which is why Loy was calming the nerves.

My view point is future depth. With 0 in class before, and all three in this class considered as possible tweeners or positional flips. (Griffith to safety -his ND made edit said safety, bracy to O - Lucci pointing out looking less likely at the moment but he could show up and be dynamic with the ball, then Wilkins - could end up a safety or wr or CB)

It would be good to add Brown because it would a) bring in one true cb b) make it 4 cb prospects in two years. Which is needed, imo.

Yeah, For me, its just about upping the odds.

For example, going into January last year at DT we had "sure thing" Darnell Ewell, and "lunchpale" Kurt Hinish. Getting that last guy was big. There are just better odds that one out of your 3 guys will surprise and be able to play early, then 1 of 2.

The story line concerning DJ's recruitment that has been repeatedly told on IE was that Boykin took DJ's spot.

In this interview with DJ at the UA All American Game (can't embed), he says that ND told him that they "filled up" because a kid from California (Irvin) committed and that's why DJ canceled his official visit the first time.

Wants to study something business related so a strong business school is very important to him.

The player from Cali was Bracy. I’m pretty sure the order events was Boykin committed, then reneged on that, Bracy jumped next.

I think they knew Bracy was on board at that time. Can't imagine they'd tell Brown the spot was filled if they didn't know Bracy and Boykin were on board.
