I believe Stanford is an elite recruiter, but I'm still waiting for that to pay off for QBs. We allegedly lead at one point for Hunter Johnson before Sanford even came into play, and ended up finishing 3rd at best to Tennessee and Clemson.

Now Jurkovic, again, allegedly a ND lean at one point, may be headed to OSU. Avery Davis may be a steal and maybe he really is their #2 behind Hunter Johnson, but he doesn't have many offers that show he's a top QB.

If in Sanford's first 3 years, we land Ian Book, Avery Davis, then some project in 2018, I'll be underwhelmed. This is ND and the depth chart for kids coming in for these years isn't scary since Wimbush will be as good as off of the books by the time they could realistically play.

I'm not a fan of Meyer or Saban, but there is simply no blaming Sanford for losing a kid to one of those two.

Oh crap... I agreed with you in the Beal thread, responded in step with you in this thread and even have a 6 pack (actually the whole case)

Damn Koon, if you were a foot taller, much better looking and had some skills on the court I'd think we were related.

Be careful, he's slowly drawing you to the dark side and you don't even know it. lol

I don't really have time to get into this, but we never liked Hunter Johnson that much. We definitely offered, and we definitely recruited him. But we also dropped him pretty quick and didn't come back around later when the opportunity was there. That says a lot. Also, Sanford's impact has been big on all skill position players... he's not just recruiting QBs. McKinley, Brock Wright, etc. are guys he had a large impact on.

We were going to pass on a QB last year, and then when we didn't he went and got the first guy he called. Don't care if he's lowly rated. Look at the top QB performers over the past 5 seasons and top NFL Draft picks... how many of them were elite recruits? QB is not about stars, it's about fit and development. Then this year we seriously targeted two guys in the 2017 cycle... Hooker and Davis. He got one of them.

Auburn offered and per loy-According to Davis, this offer changes nothing.

Kid is rock solid in his pledge to the Irish.

Just to add on a bit...My old HS coach is now Hunter Johnson's coach and I asked him what the deal was with Johnson not going to ND. He told me that it was just a bad personality fit with BK. Said that the kid wasn't soft by any means, but that he just fit better with Dabo's style.

So the kid can't stand up to being publicly berated on national television a few times a year?

Prefers coach who dresses in purple, not coach who stresses, turns purple.

Whatever.

No Irish fan will ever say what if. In fact, it's not even Hunter we will miss... it's not offering and getting Brandon Peters in '16... the better QB head to head.

Even if he doesn't get on the field as a QB, this kid is an explosive, fast athlete who has position flexibility. He could be exceptional in the slot. Glad to see he looks like he is sticking at ND.

Yeah, I think Avery gets it. Nothing is guaranteed in college football. Sure, he will have competition at his position, better ranked at that. But so did a lil' fella named Tommy Rees. We saw how that turned out.

Work hard, take advantage of any opportunity. Worst case scenario, you get a Notre Dame degree. Best case, you get your opportunity. No losing here.

I think as long as the staff was up front to him about their intention to recruit a QB in every class, he shouldn't be scared away. I hope this drives him to become even better.

Was worried about this bump, but glad to see him sticking around. Does anyone know what Davis' 40 time is? He seems like he has pretty fluid hips and could maybe be a DB

Is there any film, stats showing his abilities as a receiver? I've seen quite a few say this but was just wondering if it's legit or just based off him being a very good athlete.

Just watching him run the ball ... If he can catch, he could be good. Have not see film other than QB.

Also doesn't help that his chances aren't good for an NFL career as a 5'11" quarterback in the NFL, so if it happens a move from QB might be beneficial if he has pro aspirations.

A lot of people, including myself, thought kizer would be a career backup. We all saw how that turned out.

He's QB fast but he's not CB/WR fast is he? I thought I saw a post or report that he wasn't actually as fast as people thought he might be.

They take a QB every class like most schools. I doubt this is news to Avery and it won't scare him off. He's fully committed to ND and will be playing QB at ND.

Yup. he should have been fully aware that ND brings in a QB every year. If there is a log jam I hope he has a team centered mentality and would be open to a position change. Either way I hope he stays

He's got 4.5 speed. While not maybe elite, he has versatility if need be.

Life gets intrestinger and intrestinger.

Hope he does well.

Remember last year when oodles of OSU fans laughed at Brian Kelly for saying he wouldn't give up his quarterbacks for anyone else's?

Watch him last night in his spring game. Team is loaded on offense but he definitely makes everything go.
