We have two OL commits. Does anyone have a clear idea of how many OL we are planning on taking in '17? seems like we're in the running for a lot of high ranked/calibre guys. I'm wondering if one of the top guys like Willis/Smith/Thomas/Sarell commits, how many more we'll be taking and what the chances are of us landing more than one. I feel good about us landing Willis from his interviews and the fact we have HH.
ND will at best get 1 out of the Sarell - Smith - Thomas group. Two won't come. I think the Irish sit in second on all three OT's lists.
I think Wills sees himself as an OT and would prefer to play that in college but if one of the other 3 come, he has to be willing to play guard or know that there's a very real possibility he never plays LT at the very least. The good thing ND has going for it with Wills is his other favorite school according to the "experts" is UK where his current teammate, 5 star Landon Young is heading this fall. At 6-7 300+ he is a guaranteed LT at UK. Wills could be stuck behind him again so if that's the case, go to the OL factory and learn from the best..
As far as how many? 5 is the number we've been working with here.
Interesting. of that list Sarell is my least favorite. Give Smith all day long. smith is Leremy Tunsil without the baggage.I really hope it's Sarell. He's my favorite OL recruit of the cycle.

I will probably get killed for this but Sarrell is quite far down my list of OL at this juncture.

And Sarell is a more aggressive Ronnie Stanley.
Me as well. OT size, looks fantastic, but OG athleticism/feet. Probably not many agree but as of now, I don't see the athleticism or feet that I do from Smith and Thomas. And if we are looking at OT/OG swing players, I'd rather have Wills. I will probably get killed for this but Sarrell is quite far down my list of OL at this juncture.

Is Andrew Thomas the best OL we are after?
Remember a few years back when two guards went in the top 10. The kid from Bama and the kid from UNC. Heck this year a center and a guard went in the first. Our own Jeff Faine went in the first back in the days.

Womack and Cooper. Both have been disappointments so far. Cooper was traded in off season.
Wills is one of the more fundamentally sound offensive linemen in the country, and again showcased that precision during the morning session. Wills methodically disposed of the majority of defensive linemen he faced as he continues to prove himself as an elite talent. Because of his amazing consistency and extreme patience, he generally waits to see what the opposition plans to do and then uses his feet and hands to steer the defender in the opposite direction. He has become a technician at the position.

Scout: announcing a top 5 shortly and ND will make it. Really likes HH and the video was quite positive
If I had to bet, Wills will be the last highly ranked OL in this class. I think he probably got a feel where Sarell and Smith are leaning at the Opening and with them out of the way (if that is in fact the case), ND is ahead of UK and he stays an OT at ND instead of an OG... for this class at least.
Besides Wills, they could take a big project OT like Gavin Olsen or Dalton Wagner or maybe they are in on a flip guy that's on the down low?
I wouldn't say no to that scenario. Add in Eze or Olsen/Wagner or some other DL flip and I'd be very happy with that OL haul.
Brian Kelly came in my sophomore year. Played tight end my freshman year in college. Brian Kelly came in and said ‘We do not use tight ends in our offense but we want to keep you on the field in some way. We are going to move you to tackle.’ I cried my eyes out. I am not afraid to admit it. Almost transferred but then stayed, gained weight, busted my butt and got drafted.”
