So this is going to go over real well around here, lol. Per BGI, the Michigan Rivals writer spoke with Wills after his OV to UM. Wills told him that he has dropped the Irish, as we haven't communicated with him since some point during the summer.

Wonderful.

Haha people will get upset, but I completely understand why they would have stopped communicating with him. He was never coming to ND, and I'm sure the staff reached a point where they figured there was no changing that, among other things.

exactly, people will bitch that we gave up on him blah blah blah but then will be pissed when we are caught at the end w/ no one and are scrambling for bodies....he seemed pretty ND at the beginning but from his visits and words it appeared he was all bama..and now with michigan could end there....im fine w/ cutting ties when we have our own issues on the team and can't go chasing after people who just flat out aren't coming here

Sarrell is still OVing for Stanford and apparently we are still trying to get Trey Smith on campus. However, neither seem likely right now. It sounds like the plan is to identify new players over the bye week. At that point, we'll have a better idea of where we stand with all of the above. My expectation is we are going to have to hammer the pavement to finish this class. Doesn't mean they won't be able to find talent, I just hope it's not a half ass finish.

I have a feeling we are about to see a bunch of (or a few) new offers go out to under the radar guys (aka 3-threes) that Kelly finds fit.

Edit: I think we see these offers during the bye week especially.

You're right. Forgot Sarrell, but I don't think Smith is realistic and I think the staff knows that now.

As for Wills, he was supposed to make his commitment two months ago. If he had gone through with that, Alabama was most likely going to get his commitment. He has since gone silent with his recruitment, but his coach told SEC Country that a commitment could now come by the end of October.

It’s unclear why Wills decided to delay his commitment, but multiple sources close to his recruitment told SEC Country he had notified coaches he was going to commit to Alabama. So what exactly happened?

According to a source, Wills is adamant about playing offensive tackle on the next level. Well, that would be a problem for him if he chose Alabama because the staff is recruiting him at guard.

Unless Wills changes his mind about playing guard, I do not see him in this class at this time, but he’s more likely to end up at Alabama than Wilson.

Really hope that the staff has at least a couple of OL targets in mind to go after, with it looking like we won't land any of our current targets.

Is OL going to be the position group that the staff is ignorantly confident with this cycle? Kind of looks that way.

There's three coming in and they are chasing a 4th in Banks.

They lose Harrell for sure. McG and Q aren't leaving (?) Bivens and McGovern both graduate and could go elsewhere, will they?

I know they were chasing whales and you don't say no to Sarell, Smith or Wills but do they really need a 4th if Banks doesn't come? Is that just clogging the position like they did on the DL?

The one thing I'd say is 2018 doesn't look anywhere as good at OT as 2017 did at the same point. So next year might be slim pickings.

Very little faith that we land any OT that we are currently after. I also don't think that we need to find some immediate impact player, but I think we certainly need to find at least one more OT prospect that could be a 2 deep player in the future.

If they view Kraemer as a RT then its not as big of a concern, as that would be 3 OT's over two cycles. However, if Kraemer is a OG, then (as of now) that's 2 OT's over two cycles and we are just begging to be in the same position on the OL, as we are with the DB's. One injury away from crippling a season.

i think the plan has always been to have kraemer at right, big mike at left which can come to fruition next year...i think the guard play was just in terms of possibly making it this year if he could crack 2 deep

That would entail Kraemer beating out Bars next season for the RT spot. Not that I've been extremely enamored with his play, but we don't see that taking place much along the OL.

If Kraemer is an OT, I'd still take another OT to make sure there are numbers. However, it does have less importance. Maybe they view Hainsey as a OG/OT swing player as well.

Purely from some of BK's comments, it sounds like Eichenberg has been the most impressive at OT.

But where do we put them? What position is going to get shorted? Are they going to add someone and clog it up like DL is currently? It's a tough call. I guess I need to ask you, How many scholarships do you see opening up on the OL this year? 1, 2 or 3?

This class has a, OG in Gibbons, a RT in Lugg and an OG in Hainsey. But I'm not sure Hainsey has to play OG. He's almost a clone of Zack Martin coming out of HS plus NO ONE in HS has gained more translatable college level experience at LT than Hainsey did playing for IMG the past 2 years. There is nothing that says he has to be an OG to me besides the wishes of HH/BK. Going back to Lugg... who's to say he doesn't develop into a good LT? He looks the part.

If they had something promising going on in 2018, I wouldn't be worried but they have just 2 offers out to OT's and I'm not seeing anyone that fits the typical ND demo right now. They need to get friendly with Qadir White out of NY asap but that's for another thread.

Now that he's committed elsewhere... Tell me he doesn't look like King Hippo.
