Weird how nobody seems to be as excited for him as they are other WRs... [insert The League white player dog whistles here]

Uh, he's tied at the top for most important recruit remaining. WRs kill it in this offense and anyone as fast/quick/consistent will do incredibly well.

We all know it's difficult for freshmen to play but Fuller did it, TJ Jones did it, Stepherson is doing it and I'd bet Martin does it (if he signs with us).

Kelly really likes the humble, hard-working type vs. the bravado, loud type.

Martin is one of my biggest wants, coupled with an elite DE/FS/SS/CB. He can play multiple positions in this offense.

wouldn't be surprised if he pops this weekend
*New Crystal Ball pick*

The Gopher/247 and Illini/247 guys put in CB's for ND and Loy switched his over from MSU.

I can see a commitment too and hold the official for the banquet. They can unofficial whenever they want. Iowa City is probably 300 miles tops straight down I-80. Easy drive minus the 25 miles from 294 to Ripley St.

Where exactly does the staff see him lining up at receiver? His speed doesn't make me say "oh wow, he's gotta play on the outside" and unless he is shiftier than what he shows on film, I don't he think he is an obvious slot either.

If we do get lucky and land him, I really want him to EE. To me, he's a guy that doesn't blow you away with a certain trait but he's at least above average in everything you want in a receiver (besides hands, he seems to have excellent hands). I'd like to see him EE and get an early start on the playbook because this is a guy I can see lining up all over the field (even in the backfield) as a sophomore.

He almost reminds me of Riddick more than Holmes does.

He had a 4.15 shuttle time, that's in the "elite" category for quickness. He also had a 4.57 40, which I wouldn't categorize as elite but it's certainly fast enough to play outside.

For comparisons sake, below are Hunter Jrs. Sparq testing numbers.

Results: 4.51 40, 4.63 SH, 37-0 PB, 36.2 VJ, 94.02 Sparq

Plus Martin is probably 10-15 lbs. heavier at similar stages. I think he could play both X and Z spots. Get involved in the return game. Also get involved in the extended run game.

Smells like a safety to me. Only because, safety recruiting. But I guess we'll be OK there if Isaac Robertson and/or Pouncey move there?

Quite a few candidates that I'd move to S before moving him there. To already named a couple.

Loy said this a few days ago but I was already thinking of it before he said anything but Pouncey might be best suited at running back. With the depth we have at receiver it will be hard for him to get snaps there; I think he could be successful at running back with his borderline elite second gear.

Yeah, I'm not wasting a 133 Sparq, who some said was the best WR at The Opening at safety. With his overall physical traits added to his reputation of great hands and playing the ball in the air all that is left is dialing in route running and understanding the play book. He is an outstanding student so he has that going for him too.

Hard to believe the Irish have a legit shot to land the #1 and #2 WR's from the Opening. Say that again slowly as you kick your feet up and throw back a cold one.

Who was #2?

From watching his tape from last year when he was at WR more, there is no doubt in my mind that he's one of those guys that test #'s don't mean sh!t. He's just got that crazy 6th gear. I keep him at WR.

Especially considering Calvin (IMO) isn't good, and Black is meh.

Oliver Martin is going to dominate CFB, mark it down.

I stand by this statement. Really hope we pull this off. His only knock is his weight... can play every receiver position, and he has plus athleticism.

I'm offended by you calling people "gangsters" in this day and age. Why you ask? Because it is so cool to be offended! Thanks for giving me the opportunity!

I think you are right about Martin except there's nothing wrong with his weight. At 6-0.5, 190 he's the same size as Corey Holmes right now, 10 lbs heavier than Stepherson at the same height.

Keep him out of the pool and in the weight room for a season and you might be trying to keep weight off of him instead.

And you're still wrong on Calvin. That dude is money.

Are we calling Lax or Martin a gangster? Either way that's reverse projected racism.

And how come hunkalunka's can only be fvcking gangsters when brothers get to be the much cooler, gangsta as fvck?

I reject your labels!

I think both those guys are too light. I like WRs to be 200+... like Golden Tate is 5'10", 200 and it makes a big difference with how he's been able to absorb hits and break tackles his whole career.

We'll have to wait and see on Calvin!

I agree that I'd rather see a 6-1, 210lb guy as long as he doesn't lose a step. I guess what i was trying to say about Martin is his weight at this time is ok, ahead of the curve compared to Hunter, Stepherson and Holmes. He's got time to add, plus he's got those swimmer shoulders which are functional weight.

Last thing, he's the exact same size as Devon Allen coming out of high school... and ran a quicker shuttle and has a 12" higher vertical as measured at the Opening. That is not a misprint.

Sad, but true.

Have to think if we had moved on Martin earlier and not been 1-3 we'd already have landed him.

wiltfong seems to think that our start is what has caused him NOT to commit already and take more visits
