You all can argue about what is the reason, but this guy is already like a whole different player.

Bunches of people have told me that this kid has come on faster than any young lineman at ND in recent history, and I thought most were full of __it! After all, he's only been on campus for about three months.

Then I came across a couple of photos, and a little video. Here is an example, from ISD I believe.

I feel a lot better about the way the o-line recruiting shook out for '17, already!

Do we know if he is a tackle or guard? I think I remember reading back in December that he would start out at guard. With Banks, Hainsey, and Lugg coming in June, we have 3 legit true freshman LT candidates. We can't forget about Kraemer and Eichenberg either as they will probably be our tackles in 2018 and 2019 (assuming they don't leave early).

I know that HH likes to recruit guys that are versatile and can play multiple OL positions. But wow, we have a potential fat ass log jam at tackle on our hands.

I thought the buzz was that Hainsey had the type of leadership skills and FB IQ to be a starting center down the road

Thats what I thought too but then I I read the other day that he was getting reps at LT the other day. I might've read that wrong though

Yes, Hainsey is currently repping with the 2's at LT, and Banks at LG. BK also said that he's been so good that he could be in the discussion for the starting RT spot. However, that was more just acknowledging how good he's been, because he went on to say that it'll be really hard for him to be out Kraemer or Eich for that spot.

It is great news that Hainsey is showing he can play OT. That makes last years class that much better, if he is a starting caliber OT. Sounds like he's a really polished player, for a freshman. Picking up proper technique quickly.

With all that said, if we need a second LT to play, I'm not sure Hainsey would be the guy, I'd bet we see the loser of the RT battle get the nod. But that's JMO.

Personally I think Banks would be (if he continues to progress) the perfect replacement for Nelson next year at LG. A real mauler. I think without question Eichenberg will be McGlinchey's heir apparent at LT. Most athletic OL on the team with great feet. Hainsey is interesting in that he could probably play any position on the OL. We are simply loaded with great options along the OL.

Obviously, I want the best player at RT for this next season. However, long term I do feel like Kraemer is the RT and Eich the LT. So it makes sense to me, to give him the nod for this upcoming season, and let Eich focus on LT for next season.

Like Hainsey, he has been impressive and COULD play this season. But he still needs to work on his hands. His future is looking very bright. Per ISD.

Center, Guard, Right Tackle of the future?

There has to be some LT in Lugg's future. Will it be the Martin, Stanley, McG right to left shift or does he win the position out of the box next year?

Assuming he wins LT out right next year, you think it'll be

Lugg, Banks, Mustipher, Eichenberg, Kraemer

or

Lugg, Hainsey, Mustipher, Eichenberg/Banks, Kraemer

or some other variation

I know this is wild speculation 13 months before 2018 kickoff, just curious where you'd place your bet
