Something positive. Other than the penalty he had yesterday I thought he held his own and played well.

Anyone else see a bright future for this young man? Like potential first round pick...

I can see him being that mauler inside we need, I just wish we could get more athletic at tackle a la Ronnie Stanley type.

I hear that.

Though I do think Banks best position is RT. Have Banks and Hainsey flip flop positions please.

Dang. Hope Aaron has a full recovery. The article states they expect him back at the beginning of fall camp. I hope he is not rushed back though...

Exactly. Just ease him into it and make sure he's 100% with no issues come week 3.

Why do we have so many broken foots? Seems like a foot epidemic around here.

We don't have broken foots at Notre Dame. We have broken feet.

Michigan State, Clemson, Ohio State, et al. have broken foots.

I don't find foot injuries surprising considering the weight these guys carry, the impact of scrums holding up 600+ pounds of opponents, and how many times a game/practice they get their feet rolled up or rolled over.

The human body has evolved over the millennia but the human foot still has a lot of little tiny bones.

Way back when my brother played right guard for VT, they had a power running offense based on brute strength at RG and RT. Over the course of his senior year, even his foot broke down (Tom was an engineering major and knew feet from foots btw) and the big toe of his right foot broke all the way around (not "off" but all around.) Tom was a Monster but force is force.

He was captain for the Peach Bowl team that year and said: kill the pain, Coach; I'm playing. Let's hope than our LG Monster doesn't have to be that heroic (and risk-taking.)

Say what you want about the evolutionary adaptation of foots or the lack thereof, we need to fix the issue.

If ND, a top university in the world, can't prevent broken foots before the season...what's keeping this whole thing from unraveling? We'll be reduced to a post-apocalyptic nightmare; breathing smog and hunting deers.

How do you fix it? These players get good medical treatment and they don't just give them a pair of cleats to wear. There's not a lot of muscle in the foot to protect the bones.

I wonder if my boy Matt Dinnon did the surgery? Matt played at Valpo after me while I was on staff. He's also a Scholl grad which is near & dear to my heart.

We’re better than this. No injuries ever.

Probably no one really cares about the following but just in case:

There is a relationship in the animal kingdom which is almost freakily regular that Nature has "designed" via evolution that the strength of structural materials in skeletal structure, connective tissues, etc is not indefinitely strong but almost predictably three times the maximum force which might be expected to be applied to such structures in ordinary, even semi-violent (like jumping and landing) activities. This is a safety factor which evolution builds into us, while not "overbuilding" and over-expending on body parts.

So what was the expected human being like for whom this safety factor was created? Five-foot tall? Five-six? 100 pounds? 150 pounds? Probably not six foot six and 330 pounds.

And what sort of "ordinary activity" was this designed for? Jumping out of a low tree? Jumping down a hillside? Maybe wrestling a small but muscular animal? Probably not even what Banks is doing in the weight room let alone on the field.

... and now let's let TWO Aaron Banks take a full out run at one another.

Yep. That will end well...........

3 of my roommates were ND athletes and complained a good amount about the Under Armour cleats. Maybe its an Under Armour issue

I think we just found our new halftime "We Are The Fighting Irish" University promo.

He's up to 335 pounds. If it's solid and he isn't tossing Duke's D linemen like rag dolls in week 1, it's a coaching problem.

His problem last year was health. Banks is a big boy, but I'm hoping that 335 is mostly good weight

I don't like the sound of it --- start slimmer, grow a little if you have to during the season. ... but we'll see. OLine guys typically fight weight.

Yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that this is not "good" weight.

broke his foot twice in less than a year, probably couldn't train properly. Only can do so much stationary bike.

Fortunately, Lugg can replace him if needed.

Plenty of weight training you can do with a broken foot if you have a desire to do so. The term "if you have a desire to" is the key here.
