I'm not sure we should have updated the thread yet. It's not binding until the semester begins and he's here.

Aaron Banks signs grant-in-aid paperwork with Notre Dame

Tom Loy - 10 hours ago

"...

It looks like everything worked out for the 6-7, 310-pounder from the class of 2017, as Notre Dame Football announced the official signing (grant-in-aid paperwork) on Wednesday.

...

ND Football tweet, in the FREEBIE article, at the link above notes Banks was the 5th Early Enrollee to sign with ND.

(Wright, Holmes, Hainsey, and Robertson are the others)

Personal opinion, is I'm not sure if he can play OT. But I know he can move people. This is a giant human being that HH, can work with. This was a somewhat quiet pickup. That could be quite good.

FWIW, Lugg will be the next LT in the first round. As long as HH is coaching here, that kid is going to be insane.

I thought Banks was a guard anyway?

From what I've read, Lugg could certainly be a first round LT but I think Eichenberg has a shot as also being a 1st Rd LT as well. We have an embarrassment of riches.

We were all told Lugg was a RT or that he might have to slide inside until everybody at the US Army Bowl said he was a Top 3 LT there.

We all thought Elmer and Nelson would be the starting OT's 4-5 years ago too.

Let the kids figure it out on the field. At OL at least, it seems to work itself out pretty well.

First day of the semester at ND and already broke the single season class attendance record at SC.

He's big...that's for sure.

If Bonzie is even close to his listed 6'5" then Aaron may be a legit 6'7"...at least.

Last guy that reminded me, or should I say the closest, was Zack Banner. Just big everywhere. Pops up a head and shoulders above the population and twice as wide.

Just proving how ND's players actually go to class and interact with the general population...unlike other universities where the players "don't play school"

I think the point is to counter negative recruiting. You watch that and say, I could see myself there. It doesn't look so scary as some people make it out to be.

pretty pointless video alright.

I actually think it's a good idea although the presentation needs work. Some recruits are intimidated by the academics at ND, and removing the mystery of a day in the life of a student athlete at ND could be a nice tool.

I pretty much posted it more to show how big he is than because it was a great video. Since we probably won't see him on the field for a couple years, it seems almost inevitable we get into a height debate at some point.

That said, the kid is HUGE.

No doubt, I'm just saying ND could go a lot better then a sped up video for 45 seconds of him walking through campus and then saying 10 words.

I think that was whole the point. Its a quick twitter video to get some attention. I don't believe they were trying to win any awards with it.

Plus, the whole world is trying to figure out how to advertise, or in this case recruit, to millennials that don't have much of an attention span. A short video is probably the best way.

ok fine, of course you disagree with me =). I get it, I'm just saying it was plain and boring. You see some videos these days of college kids on campus and tours and it's tits. I would have liked to hear 45 seconds of Aaron Banks and how his time on campus has been so far and what's his early beer of choice

Did any of you see the UND video of this kid with Jac Collinsworth?

I loved it!

I have a whole lot of questions about the statistics I see posted on all of the (offensive linemen particularly) players in the 2017 class.

Some have called Aaron 6'4" or 6'5". He is listed in a lot of places as 6'7" and 344. I bring this up because I know a couple people that have been on campus since the beginning of the term and all agree that he is ginormous. One saw him with other offensive linemen and said only big Mike was any taller, that he was at least a couple of inches taller than Q, or Hunter Bivins, who they said were about the same height. And that he was taller clearly that Bars. or Eichenberg.

This all follows from the strange case of Dillon Gibbins!

At any rate, I liked this kid from day one. He just had something.

Then I saw an article on ISD, about his coach feeling lucky to have had him.

I love this dude's coach at El Cerrito, George Austin. He was from Canton, OH and Kent State. He said he worked out with a kid that played four years at ND. Alan Page. Wants to see if he can mentor Aaron. Like this kind of commitment.

I hear you on the size discrepancy issues. I think Banks is a legit 6'6 at least. I read that he was 345 and HH told him that he needed to drop the weight if he truly wanted to excel. Apparently he took his advice and got down to I think it was either 305 or 315.
