This may be more foretelling considering Jones, Kelly, and Robinson.

I do not recall us taking more than 25 since the rule. Including the EEs.

How often do we go from a kid being all-but-committed to dropping him cold? Not often. Especially on an OV. And it's not b/c we're full up.
Be it academics or whatever, something went sideways here.

22+3=25

No fuzzy math there.

ND has officially dropped him

Just to know what kind of support staff he has his dad won't contact anyone from rivals or take their calls because Nate wasn't invited to the rivals 5 star challenge.

Not sure how this speaks to his support system, unless there's more to it than this. He and his parent(s) owe Rivals nothing.

Others have hinted there is more to it. But this doesn't throw you off about his parents at all?

It really doesn't. I just don't feel like these kids owe the recruiting services anything, especially if one put a bad taste in their mouth for whatever reason. We very rarely know the whole story. HOWEVER, if you're saying there's more to it, then I have to think it might speak more to their character than if it was an isolated situation.

What if the kid showed up to ND and was like 5'8 170. Most of you wouldn't ideally want him in the class at that point.

Can he play????? I don't generally give to shits about a kids size......I just want to know if he can play. At the end of the day, that's what matters

Agreed! But, at certain positions you can only give up so much size, so often. Said by a way to short of a guy with plenty of heart.

And, there is a problem if a kid, or his entourage, (whatever) represent him as being one thing, and it turns out he is another. I think that is what they call a lie, or could be so construed.

That and the fact that the alternative currently is a 5th year for Barratti, Turner, or the like.

Wouldn't speak for TP, but I took his post as something of a metaphor. Perhaps Mr. Johnson is not as he presented himself to be?

If you watch his film, you notice he is a good player, but nothing Notre Dame doesnt have already.

It's like Damian Alloway. Nice player, but there are no elite traits and you wonder how he projects, because he is a smaller kid that doesn't have elite speed.

Fair enough......but let me ask your opinion: do we honestly get to 85 scholly players???? Why not take a chance on a kid who wants to be here, if he indeed was gonna flip??

We need to define elite speed if you are going to use Alloway as a comparison.

In regards to Johnson, the brief courtship reportedly ended because of something off the field.

Alloway does not have elite speed.

You and I discussed that already. Lol.

Elite speed is easily portrayed. Desean Jackson has elite speed.

Think the staff passed for many reasons.

A. They are all in on Robertson whether they get him or not.
B. WR isn't really a need
C. There are more than a few highly ranked kids in the 2017 class interested in ND.

Or he wasn't "elite" enough or possibly something "off the field"

Give me some numbers of what elite speed is for a high school recruit?

Is CJ Sanders 4.32 elite? It was the fastest 40 Sparq tested.

Glad ND passed...

So you rather have an open scholarship than this kid, got it. I'll definitely take the other side of that. Johnson is a good ball player. With what I would call elite quickness. Almost 4 flat shuttle is pretty darn good. Runs good routes and shows good ball skills. I too agree with some that he could play DB if willing. Definitely worthy of a roster spot on ND's team. With that said, it didn't work out for other reasons but let's not act like we are above this kid, that's funny.

We need to define elite speed if you are going to use Alloway as a comparison.

Damian Alloway is quicker and agile than fast. He is similar to Theo Riddick. He is going to juke you out of your shoes, but he isnt going to ever be considered a blazer.

Alloways accelerates in and out of his cuts good, but for being around 5'8, he needs breakaway speed. He is similar to Ryan Newsome in the 2015 class. He has the ability to get loose based off his agility, but not pure speed.

CJ Sanders has pure speed. Sanders COD is not on Alloway's, but he is able to change direction without losing too much speed.

Alloway will need to prove he can run routes as well. He can create the separation with his ability to get in and out of breaks, but will he have the speed to consistently get open and get loose? It's a valid question.

I mean a kid running a 4.5 and having a 4.36 shuttle isn't screaming speed or even agility. I'll give him the agility bc of his actual film during a game, but his film doesn't show elite speed.

You also can't take a kid just to take a kid.

The DB thing keeps coming up, but is this kid, who never really played DB in high school, is switched to DB going to beat out the DBs on the roster and in the class? If yes, then you take him. If not, he is just taking up reps that could be used to get someone else better.

Did KeiVare Russell play DB in high school? Legit question. I know he came out as a RB but honestly don't know if he played DB.

As I remember, nobody we are talking about had better than a 4.3 shuttle. I know there was nothing below 4.2. CJ Saunders had what, a 3.78?

Alloway looks nothing like him.

For me the real acid test is that Saunders came from Tennessee to what, one of the toughest areas of California football? In terms of competition, I am sure it wasn't bad through his junior year, but his senior year it was top twenty in the nation? Maybe?

And he lit 'em up! Ran through 'em like shit through a goose! Go back and look at CJ's film, they were just about as helpless against him senior year at Notre Dame, as they were in his junior year before he upgraded!

As a football player, I certainly don't view this kid as a throw in. He's plenty good enough to compete over 4-5 years for PT at ND.
