As I looked at the list I thought damn Texas has some speed. Then I saw numbers 1 and 2 being from Auburn

I've always wondered why he never got a shot at returns. I'm guessing he has hands of stone.

I can think of three Olympic sprinters who played NFL football. Two of them played football in college so they transitioned well to the pro ranks: HOFer Bob Hayes & Willie Gault. The 3rd, Rendaldo Nehiamiah, had not played much football and IIRC struggled at WR though he did play a few years for the Niners and was signed purely on his speed.

I'd think a cornerback would have to have decent vision and cutting ability.

How does playing CB guarantee good vision, regarding the ability to read on coming traffic / following blockers? (not saying you can't do both, just saying it could be an issue)

Cutting, based on hip movement, sure, but just because you have fluid hips and can move on a dime, doesn't guarantee that you know when/how to make a tackler miss. (poor timing, under/over juking, etc).

Again, just saying there's more than just "hands and speed" required for a good kick returner.

I always used my fastest CB for KR and PR in NCAA Football! It's in the game

call it vision or instinct, a good CB has to have it. not saying that always translates, but it's very similar. he also played RB, WR, and returner in HS. His highlights are more on O than D.

Is it instincts or good football IQ? Or do those two things go together?

Julian Love will be making his money off of his high football IQ and instincts.

Consider me shocked that one of the fastest players in college was used on offense in high school.

Consider me shocked that his high school highlights are primarily offense because lord knows I'm sure one of the top CB's in the class of 2016 was tested repeatedly on defense.

I get your point that that "instinct" can translate, but there is a reason that Pride isn't returning kicks. I did see a little bit of wiggle in his highlights, but not much. The chances of outrunning a high school kickoff/punt team are far far greater than outrunning a college team.

i'm gonna say he has more wiggle than finkester.

and i'd say that the reason Pride never got a shot on O or ST, was likely because of the state of DBs when he came on.

But, let me guess, they'll still have him play 8 yards off the LOS? Thats probably my biggest gripe with Lea's defense.

Isn't he the field corner? Makes sense to have him a little deeper if that's the case.

maybe not 8 yards, but should be a little bit deeper imo.

This is true about the field corner. Add two quick steps back at the snap and you have a ten yard cushion and looks/feels soft...rewatch the USC game. Too soft. Especially when Pride is THAT fast.

We have a DB that’s faster than anybody on UGA.

Their power back just ran a 4.78–which is not actually horrible for a FB, but it certainly isn’t fast.

If the stories were both reversed, it would be fodder for how ND lacks speed, and UGA is so fast. As is, it just doesn’t really prove anything.

Personally, I agree that there isn’t much to it, but I do hate how once we have a narrative (here ND is slow, SEC = fast), everything that is consistent with the story is put forward as proof, and everything that contradicts the narrative is simply ignored. The fact is we are closing the gap, but the UGAs, Clemsons, Alabamas, and Auburns still get a lot more of the hyper-elite talent than us.

I think Pride is going to have a monster year. Hopefully it'll be similar to last year for our DB's. We knew we had Love but didn't expect much at safety and were not sure with Pride. Pride had a hell a year opposite the best CB we've had in a long time. He should have been severely picked on but he did really well. So I'm hoping Pride will be our Love this year and someone will step up and have a break out year like Pride did last year. Maybe Griffith or Avery. Maybe Vaughn if he's healthy.

He had a very solid year. With his experience and this being his senior season, I expect his performance to go up another notch or two.

I'd love to see Louisville open the game with a quick out against TP and he take it to the house.

I agree. Seems most of our DB's lately have had a solid first year as a starter and then a monster 2nd year. Hoping that happens for Pride and we get a solid first year out of the next up and comer.

Scary, Scary bump.

Pride is indispensable. Get's pretty thin at CB without him.
