Agreed. Interesting seeing how a lot of them are turning into MSU/ND battles with MSU's recent success. Hopefully we keep up our solid batting average against them.

Cant blame em, MSU had a really good year. I wish we were playing them in 2015 so we could win some recruiting battles on the field.

Yep. Plus I love that game in general, and I would rather we find a way to keep them around than Michigan.

No cause for excitement. MSU doesn't have a great track record with wide receivers.

However, I will say this.. Mack is a damn good football player.

I am hella excited about him getting a MSU offer. That's big time! We are on the right trail here.

The all-important MSU offer.

The IE gods are now appeased, the recruitment may proceed.

MSU recruits are good? Is that the jist of it?

It's actually a pretty complicated formula that factors in a particular value for three star recruits and their true value. Then calculate their ceiling and the lack of big time offers. After that add the value for the state he comes from. When you have all of that multiply that by a certain percentage which is determined by the amount of "noise" his mother makes during the recruitment.

Someone correct me if I missed something in the "MSU Offered" formula.

You forgot to mention the 0.2 multiplier for a Michigan offer in conjunction with the MSU offer and the 1.7 multiplier for a lack of a Michigan offer.

Not to change the track from the formula, but I just remembered something Saban said as he moved from MSU to LSU. He loved MSU, but he said it would always be right in the middle of the biggest recruiting and football powerhouses. (OSU, ND, UM, etc.) So, he didn't believe that he could have the success to make MSU rise to the highest level.

So, Dantonio grabbed the three stars and developed the hell out of them, and built his program. I say until Kelly came along, this part of the country hadn't seen a coach that could develop talent that way. Few in the country can. And of course that is the value to an ND fan of a MSU offer.

I just think with all the people that think Saban doesn't really need to put his pants on one leg at a time, Dantonio did a better job at MSU, so much better that not only will he go down as the greatest of MSU coaches over Saban, but he will have succeeded at something that Saban couldn't, and didn't see possible. That to me is a significant thing!

Hopefully with UM digging a shit canal with their program, MSU will keep the viability of top recruits visiting and staying in the area. I believe that helps us more than it hurts us.

And I do like this Mack kid. He seems like a good fit to our receiver corps. Which I am about to start calling "The Devil Dogs."

That seems redundant. You shouldn't need a multiplier both for a true an false condition. I'd suggest an 8.5 multiplier for lack of Michigan offer OR a 0.12 multiplier for Michigan offer. Your ratios would stay the same.

Not saying we should have a BBQ too...but something like it. Seems like a good way to create chemistry.

Definitely need an end of summer event. We haven't had a visitor in over a month. Aren't expected to have another till the season starts.

That's a lot on the staff if they're trying to get the players ready for the season, install packages, determine positions, and are gone to whatever military school they pick.

I don't disagree with you at all because we can't afford to lose recruiting momentum to that fat turd. But I also want it to be a good success and not a big flop because the coaches' minds are elsewhere. Know what I mean?

We're attempting to do this with Irish Invasion. It's good to have it in June (or at least early July) to beat Michigan and some other schools (FNL, Dawg Night, etc.) to the punch. We need to make it bigger and better though.

All true. I certainly don't expect us to suddenly have an end if July event cause honestly it probably wouldn't be that successful considering OSU and UM are two of the best at their events. Maybe simply move II a couple weeks back to keep ND as a summer visit destination throughout most of the summer.

I think it's just a matter of schools like UM and OSU get a lot of regional guys on campus twice: for camp in June and their event in July. The big guys come to one of them usually. ND combined the two which was good but you miss the opportunity to get guys like Mack for example on campus twice in the summer or another shot for a prospect from Cali or Florida on campus that couldn't visit the first time.
There will probably be some regional guys visiting for Fall Camp now that I think of it.

think that the staff must just shut down recruiting this time of the year to focus on the team they have on campus.

idk if it's the right thing or not, but i'm thinking that might be the philosophy of the staff.

Moving it back would a couple weeks would conflict with national events like The Opening. I like the Irish Invasion where it is now, because it provides the staff momentum going into those national events. If they can make an impression upon some key kids or get a few big commitments, those kids can turn around and do work on other recruits at subsequent camps.

Good point I hadn't thought of that. The first weekend of July is pretty much off limits because of The Opening.
