Not to change the track from the formula, but I just remembered something Saban said as he moved from MSU to LSU. He loved MSU, but he said it would always be right in the middle of the biggest recruiting and football powerhouses. (OSU, ND, UM, etc.) So, he didn't believe that he could have the success to make MSU rise to the highest level.
So, Dantonio grabbed the three stars and developed the hell out of them, and built his program. I say until Kelly came along, this part of the country hadn't seen a coach that could develop talent that way. Few in the country can. And of course that is the value to an ND fan of a MSU offer.
I just think with all the people that think Saban doesn't really need to put his pants on one leg at a time, Dantonio did a better job at MSU, so much better that not only will he go down as the greatest of MSU coaches over Saban, but he will have succeeded at something that Saban couldn't, and didn't see possible. That to me is a significant thing!
Hopefully with UM digging a shit canal with their program, MSU will keep the viability of top recruits visiting and staying in the area. I believe that helps us more than it hurts us.
And I do like this Mack kid. He seems like a good fit to our receiver corps. Which I am about to start calling "The Devil Dogs."
