I love Julian as a player and person. Someone is going to get a great addition to their organization, but that list doesn't seem very accurate to me and I don't think he's a 1st rd. pick next year.

Well, it looks like the big dogs of the sports world are starting to respect J Love. CBS has him going #19 to Pittsburgh. My opinion on him hasn't really changed; his technique and "stickiness" is second to none, but I think he still needs to run well. If he can run well, he's probably the second best corner (Deandre Baker is a dog) in the 2019 draft.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft...tin-herbert-niners-take-big-receiver-at-no-2/

Here is their short write up on him:

All in all, I think Notre Dame has 3 legit shots at getting defensive players drafted this coming draft in Coney, Tillery, and Love. I have seen Coney go in the late first in some mocks. Same goes with Tillery; his Stanford tape will be used a lot when teams look at him. If my memory serves me right, I don't think Notre Dame has had a defensive player drafted in the first round since Harrison Smith; Jaylon obviously would've changed that but we can thank Taylor Decker.

If they all continue building on their play vs. Stanford, I think there is a very strong possibility they'll hear their names called in the first round. Tillery is obviously playing himself into a first round projection. Coney needs to continue forcing TOs and racking up stats. Love just has to keep his PBUs up, maybe pick off a ball or two.

This is why I expect Love to be gone and a vacant CB spot to open up.

Officially on the radar now. Love is a 6 star recruit for Brian Kelly to land next year.

Those rankings by the expert were right again!

Only reason for him to come back would be to complete his degree and possibly win a title? Does anyone think the team next year is better than this years team?

We should return the entire offense minus Dex, Bars, and Mustipher.
Defense the only weak spot I see next year is linebacker

Would be a senior Captain, I really wanted him back even before he blew up. Since seeing him live against Army in 2016, he's been my favorite player. I hope to see him continue his dominance this year

I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Julian Love should and will leave after this season if he's a projected first round pick. It would be silly to not do so. ND can make up for it in recruiting by presenting a first round pick DB to recruits and show how they can develop players into stars! Even if he's at the end of the first round, Love is probably guaranteeing himself $7.5M on his contract and most likely more in the end. He can finish out his two unfinished semesters of school with a bunch of other NFL guys who come back to ND and finish up over the summer offseason. Bottom line: if you are a first round pick, leave! You just need your elders to remind you to finish out the degree that you came to ND for.

Defense is loosing some big names but there are a lot of up and coming young guys that it'll be interesting to see how it comes together. As good as the product on the field is now I do believe the last 2 recruiting classes (this year's freshman and next year's) are the most talented back-to-back defensive classes in the Kelly era but it's possible we take a slight step back next year.

We for sure lose Tranquil Coney Bonner and Tillery and more than likely Love. Couple that with three road games of Michigan Georgia and Stanford and yeah I'd say we take a step back next year. After our playoff run this year I think we can make the playoffs again in 2020 with that 18 class makin a huge impact.

Disagree with this.

You can get hurt if you stay and so on and so on...got that.

But you also leave a lot of money on the table if you leave and skip a year that you can get better with. Wasn't Q a late 1st rounder and McG a 2nd rounder in the 2017 draft grade? If that was the case, Q made out.

Also, this year's draft:

Denzel Ward - CB 4th overall pick. Contract was $29M.
Jaire Alexander - CB 18th overall pick. Contract was $12M.

If it's believed Love can be a top 10+ pick in the following draft, then it's absolutely worth it to stay.

eeeeeerrrrrrrrrr...I believe Q was grade as a mid 1st rounder and McG a mid to late 1st rd in 2017.

He's significantly better than K Russel IMO.

Russel was more athletic and more capable of "wow" plays, but Love is a master technician and a better tackler.

Basically, Love is much more complete from top to bottom.

I don't know, I was skeptical of Love's athleticism but he's running with everyone. He got blown out once early in the year (michigan?) and it wasn't complete, but we later found out one of the safeties was supposed to take that coverage.

I haven't seen a WR get separation on him this year.

In the words of Herby on the broadcast the other night Love is a “physical, quick, dominant cover corner.”

I'm not saying he's not athletic, or even a great athlete. He is.

He lacks a bit of top-end speed, but he's so good with his technique that it doesn't really matter. He's gonna run with everyone unless the QB has time to uncork a 60-yard pass.

I just meant that Russel was an athletic freak, and that's the only place he's better than Love.
