Can Bilal come back next year? I though he was gone after this year?
Pretty sure next year is his 5th year.

CBS sports, right now, has Julian ranked as the 28th best player overall. However they do not have him in the first round of their current mocks. If he comes back that would be insane. If he leaves I think Houston Griffith should take over. He is too talented to leave him off the field.
Houston isn’t being left off the field, he’s playing Nickel. And right now a majority of his reps are at S, not C.B. So, if/when Love leaves it doesn’t look like Griffith will be the one replacing him.
Draftscout.com has Julian between a 4.40-4.59 which is a ridiculously wide gap. In high school he claimed a 4.53. Hopefully with some speed training in the body by Balis program he was able to get close to 4.50. If he breaks 4.50 then I think he’s a First Round Pick. There are enough good corners in college football who can run under 4.50 that also have maybe some height and length as well so he needs to improve in the speed category to compete with the 4.45 6’2” guys.
Hmm, if Griffith plays Safety, with Wilkins switching over the WR, that leaves the corner depth chart a bit thin, no?
Senior: Love, Pride, Vaughn
Sophomore: DJ Brown, Noah Boykin, Tariq Bracy
Freshman: KJ Wallace, Cam Hart? Abdur-Raman?
Take out Love next year and I'm not very confident, because I'm not sure how ready the Sophomores will be ready to contribute. Make no mistake, Love is a big priority 6 Star returner.
Donte Vaughn and Tarik Bracy will be competent replacements; the coaches have been impressed by Bracy. Boykin has the physical stature to be an absolute freak, so lets hope this RS season will be beneficial for him; same goes for Brown. I think we'll be just fine once Love leaves.
I'm hoping we get Rutherford because a Wallace/Rutherford will be awesome and would be very complimentary of the 2018 CB class. Also, thats a lot of size between the two.
Agreed - getting Love back for another year would be nice but the secondary should be fine with or without him. LBer is a bigger question mark. If Bilal comes back, is it Bilal - Bauer - Genmark, or does Simon compete with Genmark for a starting spot at Buck?
I disagree here. I think LB is in better shape than CB (still like where the CB group is at though). Bauer is looking like a guaranteed multi year starter, Genmark-Heath is looking like a strong candidate to be starting next year, and Bilal has been the pleasant surprise so far this year and has been pretty strong at Rover. We haven't even mentioned Simon, Lamb, Ovie, or Ekwonu. Simon could very well beat out JGH or Bilal next year (probably JGH though because Simon is getting a little big for Rover) and Lamb will be a totally different player next year after having a year in a college weight room.
The whole defense in general has a very bright future at all 3 levels. This is what happens when you have a DC that not only likes to recruit, but is good at it as well.
Of the 3 groups (DB, LB, DL) LB is certainly the weak position group heading into next year. It will return the least amount of production and starts and it's not close. A lot of talent, but all positions have that. Proven production and starts is how we'd measure it at this moment, and it's LB.
JMO, but I don't think Love leaves. He grew up a huge ND fan and I'd bet he wants to see this through.

DT/NT worries me big time too. J Ade gives me hope, but the rest do not. Do we see newcomers (Lacey/Spears) making an unusual frosh push to compete? Lacey is the second highest rated DT (second to J Ade) we picked up in 5+ years. i hate even thinking about a true frosh playing at DT, but not sure what to think.
Honestly, Julian might be my favorite player on this squad, and that’s saying alot, because this squad is deep with talent. Julian does what he does with confidence and shows up with his actions time and again. I’m thankful he’s on our team.
Are you forgetting MTA or is he expected to regress due to the injury?
MTA plays 3 tech, Hinish plays 1 techI'm worried about the injury yes, but IMO, I don't see him as a high ceiling guy. Wasn't he already in a heated battle with Hinish for 2?

I've read several articles that would suggest he's both. And I've just checked Rivals, NDInsider, Ourlads, OneFootDown, etc. all have him behind Hinish, and one has him as back ups for both DT and NT.
Not an expert, just what I've read/seen.
Alright let me put it another way, MTA was the #2 3 Technique behind Jerry Tillery, the job was his next year before this injury. If he comes back healthy, it's his, with Jayson Ade as the backup.

I'll worry about next year, after this year. (or if the wheels fall off this year). In the meantime, I'm enjoying watching a number of NFL prospects play on our defense.
Coney, Tillery and Love are guaranteed to be drafted. Tranquil could put himself into consideration as a day 2 pick.
How is Bars viewed? And I wonder if Dex can get traction if he explodes on the scene?
IIRC he is projected to be an early to mid round guy, top 10 guard.
Found a couple links: WalterFootball.com: 2019 NFL Draft: Guards Rankings (no. 8)
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/offensive-guards/
CBS has Coney No. 15 overall (1st ILB), Love No. 28 (#3 CB), Tillery No. 30 (#5 DT), Bars No. 96 (#12 OT????) He would be the 6th G taken at that spot.
Exactly. This is a loaded team so we should appreciate what we have. Hopefully we can do big things but curb stomping Stanford tomorrow night.
Love had a ridiculous 20 pass breakups in 2017 and already has 10 in 2018. He's a shade under 6-0 but has plenty of athleticism and is feisty with the ball in the air. He would be a welcome addition in Pittsburgh. The Steelers' defensive backfield needs a lot of help.
