This staff has not been outrecruited this year. If we do not land him and there is a chance we do not with either him or Kelly it is not the staff's fault. They are doing a hell of a job. And I will not be dissapointed.

Stanford's campus is one of very few I put on par with Notre Dame. I love the architecture. It's really a great place on many different levels, which is why so many people would kill to go there.

What's comical to me though is how people just refuse to acknowledge most of the negatives of that place... and trust me, there are a LOT of them. Is it because people aren't aware of them? Or people are misinformed? Hell, I've even seen people say that Stanford has "hotter girls" than ND which is just mind blowing levels of incorrect. Stanford without a doubt has one of the ugliest, weirdest female populations of any school in the country.

See this is different than what is portrayed in media such as movies and news. Everyone talks about how great the girls are there. Also they talk about how wonderful the weather and campus are.

Robertson could step in where Fuller left and we don't miss a beat. Add ESB and Hunter in the slot...Boom!
I see Hunter a better fit to replace Brown and CJ replacing Amir.

Not that Hunter couldn't take full time slot (obviously he's played there), but I think we should get the best athletes possible on the field at once.

Would be sweet if they had a nice food spread in the back of the truck --- pizza, wings, maybe get some guac going. Half joking.

As awesome as the truck move is, if that is the determining factor for a kid to pick a school it is kind of pathetic, IMO. I love the creative work but have concerns over fawning too much over anyone.

agree, but I think the staff must see that this was necessary if they went to these measures, b/c I think this is something quite out of character outside of the "pot of gold" used a few years back.

Are you new to recruiting? This would hardly be the first time something was used to impress a recruit. This is the standard now. If you don't make these moves, you'll lose out on great talent and great kids.

What's wrong with a recruit factoring in effort by staffs (like this) in his decision making process? How does that make him a worrisome recruit?

The more you can do. Sending 5 coaches as opposed to 4. Calling a recruit 4x per week as opposed to 3x per week. Mailing the "pot of gold" with ND football/university facts and hand-written notes as opposed to just sending one larger pamphlet. It all adds up.

It is a boss move to put a cherry on top of a great class. Don't get me wrong- I love it. It just exemplifies all that is wrong with recruiting races and the incredible amount of attention these kids draw.

Fair point, but it's been like this forever. And it's not nearly as offensive when you consider the fact that other programs are offering cars, jobs to family members, and straight up cash.

Schools end up with lots of hot girsl for two reasons:

1) Numbers
2) Self-selection (hot girls favor that school over similarly situated schools, for example, USC and Vanderbilt)

Stanford is not a big school and choses kids based on elite academic performance. So while there are probably not a lot of pretty girsl who ever say no to Stanford, there are not a lot of pretty girls who Stanford ever says yes to.

If Stanford has a disproportionate number of hot girls, I think it would mean that smart girls are more attractive, on average, than normal people. I don't think that is the case.

It's like this : when you think about it, buying your wife flowers to make up for an 'oops' is wrong, too. But we all have done it, because it works!

Just my two cents worth.

Oh, and reps to you all, some of you are funnier than hell!

Dubs, and Lion, I am looking at you.

From a psych perspective some of you have said the kid likes attention. Whether or not it's true, did it work? Achieve that goal? Hail yas!

He didn't ask the staff to bring the truck, but who doesn't like attention? We all feel a little better about ourselves when someone says or does something nice for us. We remember that person a little better then we did before. if this makes Drob think a little better about ND, then go for it. Now get that truck headed west.

It's flashy, I suppose. And shows we're "serious" about DR (as if that were in doubt). But I'm not sure what driving an equipment truck to Georgia to park in front of the kid's high school is actually supposed to demonstrate (Caveat: I'm not an 18 yo high school football star).
Now if we could fly Will Fuller, Golden Tate and Michael Floyd in to town...

The local radio station here in Columbia just discussed the truck. They all loved it and thought it was a great idea. This move is getting a lot of national attention - home run UND!

Now let's get a commitment.

A couple of things here:

1. When national recruiting created the environment for people to make a profit from reporting it, the whole dynamic of recruiting changed.

2. This change led to HS recruits being followed, questioned, etc., during the recruiting process. Every word, interview, question, type of t shirt, etc., has caused them to expect to be treated like movie stars.

3. The big business of CFB created the environment where no longer does most coaches, schools, etc., command attention simply by showing up at the front door. Therefore, the business of "selling" the school takes on a whole new meaning. Coaches now feel a need to "one up" the last coach.

4. Lastly, every millennial but two have a sense of entitlement and think they are owed the attention.

When all else fails, throw a bag of money at them and see if that sticks. Benjamins' still command attention... no matter the generation of player.

How long before another school does the same thing? If it works maybe it could be our trade mark...I volunteer to drive the rig.

ND 1 on the recruiting (campaign) trail. Where will it stop next? Fill the truck up with the Pot of Gold campaign and we're set with any recruit it visits...

Oscar Meyer Weinermobile always draws a crowd with everyone taking pics. It leaves an impression and is fun to run into.

To be in the deep south seeing everyone and their dog getting selfies with the ND truck - it is a kick ass promotion of the program. Pays dividends well beyond this kid. I think it is a cool play and not morally opposed to this action in what is obviously an "arms race". Just like the A&M copter is a genius play to draw attention and make a mark - better dropping dollars on this type thing than handing over bags of cash.

I pretty much work in sales and am disgusted on a daily basis by people making really stupid decisions based on style over substance. How do you deal with cheats and liars ripping people off when you take the path of competing on merit and honesty?

Gee kind of sounds like recruiting....
