Man must be nice to be Stanford to not even recruit a 5 star or have him visit and be his #1 school a week before signing day.

But I personally believe this has to be some type of smoke screen and I have no idea the motive.

Also with Drob remember he canceled his OSU visit, pushed back to Bama OV's and I want to say was suppose to go to UGA twice during the season for a game and never showed up. No one really knew if he was coming to ND for the Texas game till about Thursday night

For easy math lets say we really started recruiting him in Sept. So you have Sept,OCt,Nov,Dec,Jan so what makes you think extra weeks are going to help?

I want this to see this kid at Notre Dame, but really...
Who has a top four of Bama (which he keeps cancelling), Georgia (been there 100 times and not committed), Stanford (never been there but it's his top choice) and Notre Dame?
Throw in all the weird mixed messages from him and various surrogates, and the prospect of pushing things past Signing Day (why, exactly?).
The Davonte Neal analogy seems appropriate here. These sort of recruitments don't tend to end well for us. If we don't close the deal tomorrow...

He's just playing the game and building the drama.

He's all Irish.

I'm gonna foolishly and blindly believe this and disregard all info until he signs a LOI.

To be fair, we did land Neal, and I think this kid has what it takes to stick at ND.

Why is everyone acting like we lost out on Neal, during his recruitment?

We came in late and closed on him. He ended up not being right for the school, but we closed successfully.

This is one whacky recruitment. The Stanford being #1 thing is either a complete smokescreen or this kid is straight up off his rocker. Never been on campus, presumably not being recruited, not admitted... Come on, he can't be serious about that, right?

If you care a lot about academics, Stanford's online prestige can have an effect that won't be dispelled without a visit. I've never been to Stanford's campus, but ND's has a certain "glow" to it that every other I've ever been on has lacked. But reading about the "buzz" of silicon valley's flagship school could be very compelling in the abstract.

It's one thing to be intrigued, but to go so far as to name them his leader without having visited, been admitted, or recruited? That doesn't seem odd to you?

Stanford's campus is beautiful, gorgeous, awesome, dope, etc.

If I could have gotten in there I wouldn't chose any other school over it.

Sorry guys.

Stanford's campus is one of very few I put on par with Notre Dame. I love the architecture. It's really a great place on many different levels, which is why so many people would kill to go there.

What's comical to me though is how people just refuse to acknowledge most of the negatives of that place... and trust me, there are a LOT of them. Is it because people aren't aware of them? Or people are misinformed? Hell, I've even seen people say that Stanford has "hotter girls" than ND which is just mind blowing levels of incorrect. Stanford without a doubt has one of the ugliest, weirdest female populations of any school in the country.

I'm from LA County and I did my undergrad in the Bay Area. Girls (aside from international students) were not very attractive.

Am I the only one who thinks 'girls on campus' is an overrated metric?

Let me unpack that a bit...

First let me say I am an average guy. Hell, I'll go below average. When I was in college and in my 20's I'd be at a bar with my friends and I was the guy that was concerned with how many girls were there. The reason is I knew I needed the numbers in my favor.

On the other hand, my good friend was different. The dude is brilliant and is now a surgeon. But back in college he was just a really, really smart dude who also never have trouble with women. He's a good looking guy who also was super healthy and worked out. For him, things were different. When he walked into a bar he really was never concerned with the % of women because he knew that he had a shot with anyone there. Some dudes are just on a different level and I am not ashamed to know that I am not there.

Anyways, these kids that we talk about not only are the best of the best of the best in terms of athletes but they are also pretty good in the classroom. Even before they decide on a college they know the trajectory they are on is going to lead to a good life. IF they stay focused.

So that said, do these kids really care if there are 20 hot girls on a campus rather than 2,000? Honestly, I don't think so. Some guys simply do not need to play the percentages.

Besides that, many of these kids have to be so focused on their goals like the NFL that at some point you have to assume the last thing they want to risk is being tied down to some girl they met in college. IF they make it to Wall Street or 1 Bills Avenue, they are going to be able to land a dime regardless.

Maybe 'hot girls' works for the kid who is not playing with the full hand in terms of smarts.

Maybe 'hot girls' works for the kid who dreams of the NFL v. knowing the NFL is there if they put the work in.

But I think for the best of the best...honestly...hot girls really don't matter.

For me it wasn't how many, but how long they were in the bar . . .

I just waited until they got pretty drunk, and convinced them they were seeing things.

Heck, one of my greatest pick-ups was with a girl I knew, probably from before high school. We ran into each other at a watering hole in college, and both got a kick out of seeing each other. One drink turned into four, and we were obviously having a good time, right up at the bar where we ran into each other.

She said, "If you buy me another drink I am going to think you want to take me to bed!" Rick the manager was tending bar, an old friend (I know just like Casablanca!) and before she could look down there were five more (of her preferred) drinks sitting there!

Cool thing is I didn't even have to say anything to him. Came off as very impressive.

OK. That is just f*cking brilliant.

When NFL guys at ESPN are picking up what is being done for a kid in High School. Damn.

That's a mic drop if there ever was one.
