This is my only real concern. Shedding blocks is about engaging and disengaging which is all done through extension of the arms, basically. He's a long torso, short armed LB. I like what I see from him in all other areas but that should be a concern.

He's got nice feet, good box power, plays with a good base, and moves laterally well. Like you said they are highlights but he seems to have a good understanding of space in pass coverage, which will be important at MLB.

Someone mentioned you don't see him going backwards either and I think that's valid. However, I do question where he projects when he fills out. If he was 6'2, I believe he would have been one of most sought after LB's in the country.

He has really worked on his pass game sets and drops between his junior and senior year. He can fly to the ball, but it's different when he is trying to tackle D-1 college kids all the time.

I definitely don't see any reason not to take him and think his ceiling is pretty damn high, but I can also see why there are questions about his size. However, he is not Devin Bush Jr. in terms of size, so I think Notre Dame won the battle over Michigan in recruiting the right MIKE LB

PowerHour had a bunch of 2016 recruits interviewed on this weeks show if anyone is interested.

Tori Hunter was my sleeper of the 2013 class. Jonathan Jones is my sleeper of the 2016 class. I think he could be a great college player. SEC style LB.

Haha! Your sleeper was a consensus 4-star, won offensive MVP at the Opening, and is the son of a hall-of-fame athlete. Only Nick Saban and Urban Meyer get to sleep on those kind of kids.

He was a low 4 star, virtually as low as can be at a 90 rating I believe.

Not to mention, completely over shadowed by the likes of Greg Bryant (RIP my man), Folston, Redfield, Nyles Morgan, Quenton Nelson, Jaylon Smith, etc.

I have to agree. I don't think a sleeper can be a four star, whether it's a high or low.

In a typical year, a .90-rating player would be disregarded as an impact player by Bama. The guys in their classes that make impacts are the .97's of the world and above. We had a Bama class in 2013. I think he absolutely can be a sleeper.

He was our 13th highest rated commit that year.

Well if you're going to use facts.

He was our 13th best player in the 2013 class. That's technically in the bottom half of the class. You can always be a sleeper relative to your production and rating. Heck, a .95, 11th best rated WR could be a sleeper if he goes on to smash WR records and out plays the 10 WRs above him.

The real joke you should be pointing at me is how I didn't pick Will Fuller to be the sleeper of the class. Not whether or not a low-rated, 13th best player in the ND class could be a sleeper.

So far I've got the field out in the lead though Koon does score points with the 13th best / bottom half of the class comeback. The score is closer than you'd think. Continue...

Jonathan is terrible with names. Comes out of the gates calling Loy "Stanley" then calls Parker Boudreaux "Parker Boardocks"--even though Parker apparently lives up the street from Jonathan (9:30). lol.

From 6/17/2013:

IMO will be the best receiver of his class.

I think Fuller and Hunter are both underrated. Hunter's film is great IMO, and Fuller performed really well in camps. But I have Hunter > Fuller.

From 7/13/2014:

I'm thinking Fuller > Brown this year.

Great job Philly!

Koon, give yourself some credit here with Fuller (and stop with the Hunter argument).

*I have a life...I'm not fishing for Koon comments about Fuller...I'm trying to find my post about him being the diamond in the rough in that year's class...still searching....ugh.

Found it!!

Pretty sure the staff loved his route running and hands as a recruit. I could be mistaken though. I recall comparisons to TJ, only faster. I think this kid is going to be big for ND in the coming years (including this year).

Carry on with Jones now...

I think Fuller was the sleeper of the 2013 class.

He didn't have too many big time offers coming out of high school and he was easily a top 5 WR in the country his last 2 years at ND.

Looking forward to what Jonathan Jones can do for ND on the field!

Missed this earlier. This is good to see. Next year, like this year, will have two starters needing to be replaced and if he steps in for Coney and Bilal holds down his Rover spot, all that's needed is for someone to claim the Buck and my money is on Simon. I've said it since early on, I think Simon's ND future is at Buck and the wealth of Rover talent ahead of him combined with his size I think will guide him there.

Anyways, I used to be worried about 2019 as a transition year between Coney/Tranquill led group and the JOK/2018 class led group. Not so much anymore.

When i first saw that tweet i read it as JJ referring to Lea. Not Lea referring to JJ.

Yeah, I misread it... on my Jitterbug flip phone and all. Might need some readers too.

Flutie liked him at least.

In all seriousness though. It does sound like there is an ongoing positive vibe about Jo Jones in the analyst circles.
