Can anyone explain why he is a douche? I don’t follow nfl closely . I don’t doubt it. He had real maturity problems at nd: thought he turned it around senior year
There's a long list that probably starts with celebrating a first down catch in a one minute drill that prevented getting on the ball fast. A lot of BS comments, laziness, etc etc. Just unnecessary stuff for someone not proven.

And also refusing to take any accountability for that play afterwords.

More of the equivalent of the 15-day DL; since this is the offseason he can even be activated in training camp, per something I just read. However if it lingers into the season I think it's a minimum of 6 weeks.
They changed it to 4 weeks for PUP players, starting this year. Which was the right move, IMO.

He really turned into a douche after leaving ND. Maybe he just hid it well.
I'll be totally honest, I really had no idea back in November when this trade when down what a clown he was, and the Steelers generally run their franchise pretty well. If they were willing to part with him, that probably should have raised some red flags.

I was very interested in getting more options for Justin Fields at the time. Turns out Claypool ain't it. Wish everyone had called that out all those months ago for me. Live and learn.

Wasn't just you. The rumor was it was down to GB and Chicago and Chicago won out because Pittsburgh knew they'd be slightly higher in the draft order last year. I wanted the Pack to snag him up bad. Seems like we dodged a bullet.

I hope Claypool can turn it around, just seems like he got a pretty big ego between ND and a solid Rookie szn. "Top 3 WR"...he's not even a top 3 target in Chicago with the DJ Moore addition.

He was so fun to watch at ND, would be too bad if he doesn't pan out.

Was nice to see Kmet get his payday. Fields is going to enjoy having Moore, Kmet, and Mooney. Maybe Claypool can rebound a bit being an "under the radar" target as the WR3 or 4, but I'm not holding my breath.

Bears gave up a first round draft pick for him too. Oof.
It was a second rounder. The Steelers used the 32nd overall pick to take Joey Porter Jr.

The Bears picked up a second rounder and fifth rounder from Baltimore when they traded Roquan Smith. Had they not picked up those picks in place of the one they gave up for Claypool, it looks worse in hindsight.

Maybe Chase is going to start his 40 year decision a little later in life.

A few things happened in Pittsburgh…

George Pickens came in and took his spot. They tried Claypool in the slot and it didn’t work.

It sounds like he let his frustration known and Pittsburgh doesn’t play that game. Especially with a player who isn’t very good.

Pittsburgh laughed all the way to the bank when Chicago foolishly offered #32. Pittsburgh turned that into Joey Porter Jr

Who fell out of the first round. I take it there is a reason for that as much as there was a reason they were willing to part with Claypool.

I'm wondering if they just wanted to get another guy in for the last couple of months in an effort to keep Fields alive. That OL was so bad and there was virtually no time to throw and no one to throw to at that juncture.

Roster looks way better going into camp now and they picked up the second rounder from Baltimore to even things out. Giving up the 32nd pick ends up not being the end of the world when they used a second rounder to get Dexter Lawrence later. You get your big DT that doesn't come with Jalen Carter baggage.

Well, not everyone can be a first round pick.

The fact the Bears thought Claypool was worth a high 2nd round pick is hilarious

NFL = Not For Long

Chase better get his shit together real fast or he's going to find himself playing for the Alouettes or Roughriders.

LOL. Yes, I grasp the math on that. It also goes to prove the mock drafts and projections mean little at the end of the day.

It's a big season for Claypool. He's got to prove a lot and if he isn't self aware enough of that then it'll be more on him than on the Bears. He'll be on the street and the Bears will have had a solid draft on paper without the 32nd pick. Joey Porter will have more time to prove himself.

I think the jury is still out. Claypool put up decent numbers when Big Ben was throwing to him. After he retired Claypool's numbers went down, and then he got traded to the Bears. Fields is no Roethlisberger, he's middle of the road at best. He's going to have to find a way to produce this year if he wants a big contract though.

Fields has been running for his life during his brief NFL career. The glimpses he's shown amidst the utter chaos that has surrounded him speak volumes. If this OL can stay healthy I think we'll get to see what he's really all about as a passer. Most of those rushing yards were out of nothing more than necessity to avoid him getting killed.

Claypool just turned 25 a few weeks ago. If he can match the sense of urgency the franchise has been showing he should be fine. He's got to make it happen this year for himself regardless of how the Bears fare as a team. I haven't seen many pundits picking them anywhere other than fourth in the North. Expectations are not high, but improvement is expected. It's a good position for him to be in personally.

The Bears are undoubtedly improved. Lot of lingering questions surrounding them and GB, and I think most pundits have them finishing third and fourth, in no particular order. Seems like a mixed bag.

however, both rosters have young talent on both sides of the ball. I think the North is more wide open than most pundits think. Lions are the unquestionable favorites for the division, but, let's be honest...it would be on brand for them to have a "same old Lions" type season and blow it.

It'll be a very tight division. Bears and Packers certainly benefiting from the 3rd and 4th place schedules, respectively.

It's pretty well documented that multiple teams were offering a 2nd round pick for Claypool. At the time of the trade there was also an element of giving Fields more options to see if he was worth keeping long-term.

Lions go from 4th place schedule to 2nd place schedule. Their win total is at 9.5 and I would hammer that under.
