Yes he could have thrown it downfield more, but Book made no significant mistakes tonight and made a couple of absolutely brilliant runs when he needed to. The guy's not going to be some big NFL draft pick but, again, he did what it took to win.

His leadership when the game was on the line was crucial for the win.

When the game was on the line, Book made the plays to put us up and get the win. Reminds me of Quinn's run in '05, too bad the defense blew that one along with the no calls from the PAC-12 refs.

It’s either A or C. No way Phil will get chosen over Book. Kelly has said as much in the past two weeks if you read between the lines.

You don't even really need to read between the lines lol

The only reason he’d leave ND for another school is because he’s disgruntled (sick Grandma included), because there is zero chance he doesn’t start next year.

A.

Book is solid: Heisman front runner? Hell no. But solid non the less. He needs a pro style offense in my opinion. Less RPO and multiple read plays and he’ll flourish. Long needs to move on.

If Phil replaces Book it will be because Book starts next season badly.

Posted on Instagram that he's officially done with his undergrad.

Another hint that he could be staying.

Before the season, he had eyes on the NFL. He will get draft feedback for certain. The first 8 games of the year did not go according to plan.

If Chip Long was coming back, he would be headed to the NFL or another school. With him gone, I would put the odds on him returning for another season unless he gets good draft feedback.

I think he'd be a huge hit in Canada. Italics sorta. CFL loves QB's from the NW.

I'm ready for the change while Phil has a vet OL / TE's / RB / and playmaker WR's that he's used to from the JV. Plus another very strong defensive group (and staff) to control things when the ball's not in his hands.

If he takes over in '21 it's a definite rebuild year with the focus on challenging in '22.

I'll get shot for this but in my opinion if he ever wants to play football again he should come back for a final year. I just cant see an attribute that screams NFL. If he runs like that in the NFL...he'll get crushed. Arm strength is only fair. Staring down receivers will get him picked often. He's serviceable in NDs offense but I think that's his ceiling.

I don’t think you should get crushed for saying that. Seems a very fair assessment.

What draft feedback do you expect for him? Maybe 4-7 round? Otherwise known as "stay in school".

I don't expect him to get very good draft feedback. Combination of height + his film for the first half of the season.

Let's not get it twisted though.... he has been absolutely dealing for the past month. If he had played at that level for a full season people would be looking at him like Russel Wilson.

Agree on the feedback. He has been outstanding since VT, but the measurables (arm strength & height) will be the two things he can’t overcome. While the NFL is creeping more to the running QB, it’s still pocket first run second and Wilson has a better arm IMO.

Having said that, I hope he returns as he will light it up next year.

I find it incredible that with all the negative posts throughout the year particularly the points you mention above suddenly he's draft material. Did Long's play calling limit arm strength or encourage not seeing secondary receivers? Or is Book to the NFL just a new mantra for the “put in the other guy” crowd?

I agree he showed better performance as the season progressed but he needs to demonstrate that his ceiling is higher particularly against tougher defenses. It not uncommon for many athletes to blossom their last year. He needs to do that.

Book is no dummy. He'll be back.
Hopefully he leads us to the playoffs and works his way into a third-day pick and a steady gig as a backup on Sundays.
Or he gets his MBA and goes on to be very successful in life after football. Either way, there's really downside for him.

I tend to agree on "pro potential", but I'm not interested in pro potential. I'm interested in college winner, and in my opinion that is what Book is. These things aren't the same thing although they sometimes reside in the same guy.

I recall WVUs QB back when we played them for the National Championship. That guy (Major Harris) was almost unstoppable in college but not in the pros. This also reminds me of those Bball inside players who kill you in college but can't deal with pros.

I'll take Ian just about every time. If we support him on the rest of the offense, he'll get us a bunch of points.
