Yes

Yes

Well, he didn't have to scale back on the system this year because he had his "quarterback" in Joe Schmidt.

He won't have Joe next year. So he may literally have no choice but to scale it back in terms of complexity.

Can't tell you how I pray you are right IrishLion.

I can see why you would say that as a lot of schools seem to offer it, it's a competitive field with relatively low salaries at entry positions, and in general the press/journalists do not have the respect they once did (but this can be seen in other fields liking banking too) in this country (the quality of journalism HAS deteriorated- we need better journalism).

But I would think a small program at ND could do well (maybe that Gallivan program is enough) given the combination of academics at the university, strong athletics program and some graduates having success in the industry. It seems to me that there are a few schools that do it right, are known for it in that industry and are well respected. And its not like FTT is a prime major either...though maybe it's more similar than I think.

que? Please explain this.

The trouble with a broadcasting major is you need a lot of infrastructure (think studios for students) to be competitive. You're also doing highly specialized training for a small and shrinking industry. And you're competing with journalism programs, mostly at much larger schools, that are very well established (and have big alum networks in the industry). Syracuse, for instance, dominates broadcast.

Between the existing journalism minor, American Studies and FTT, Notre Dame does ok at producing working journalists - a few a year, maybe more for print than broadcast - though most of those who actually get jobs have put in a lot of time at The Observer or another campus pub, which may be hard for a busy varsity athlete.

Point being I'm not sure it's worth it for the university to make journalism/broadcasting much more of a priority than it already i, just to land a few more recruits. And the regular students who want to do journalism can find a way in. I say this as a Notre Dame (and Gallivan program) alum who works in journalism, fwiw.

Anyway, back to Caleb Kelly. Go get him....

It's my field but all indications to me are that banking used to be a more respected field. Bankers truly used to be considered advisors but I think the surge in private equity, consulting and alternative lenders has taken a little bit of the luster off the profession. Just my personal opinion.

Also, Obama blasting bankers all the time hasn't helped :) but yea back to Caleb Kelly

SAID WE PULLED EVEN W/ OKL-to andrew, rivals reporter

“Oklahoma was my first offer and after that visit they were probably just set alone at the top, but then Notre Dame kind of made it real even with their visit. They’re both up there,” Kelly said. “It’s real close [they’re] just neck-and-neck with each other.”

“Coach Stoops, I feel like he’s more of a people person than Kelly,” the five-star linebacker said. “Kelly is more of a business man. But I like how he doesn’t do too much in his coaching. He was at practice and he was up in the tower. He wasn’t even on the field. I like how he’s just being a head coach and watching everything. Watching offense and defense — not just micromanaging everything.”

“It’s cool to say that you talk to head coaches, but I mean, they are coaching you,” Kelly said, “but they aren’t going to be the closest coaches like the linebackers coaches will be.”

stated he hears more from stoops than BK BUT

“I feel like Elston is more laid back than Stoops,” Kelly said. “[Stoops] is just crazier and he’ll yet at you more if you mess up and he’ll let you know. [Elston] will kind of correct you more and just kind of talk to you more.”

While it's good he's saying this, remember who he's saying this to; a Notre Dame beat writer.

Bottom line if he were sold on OU he'd announce at this game. I have little doubt he is still unsure as to which school he will attend.

I know BK exhausted his in home, but can we have any coaches visit him before NSD? And if so will we?

That's what I thought you meant. At first, I thought you were saying that it is a watered down industry, as in bankers are in a "competitive industry with low starting wages". Which I didn't agree with. But I agree, "banker" has the same ring lately as "IRS" or "Inspector".

What kind of banking are you in? I'm in commercial banking, myself.

Is commercial banking like a bigger bank? I'm looking for one.

This doesn't seem like any of the practice vids, or showtime series at all.. BK is always on the field from what we see. Just kind of took me back on that one. Hope BK see's this and picks up the phone.

I'm guessing another Michiah Quick photo finish. I'm just hoping the coin lands on our side this time.

Assistants can go in-home as much as they want or the family will allow. So, I have to imagine we'll have quite a few coaches there showing him the love when that time comes.

No, Wooly and other commercial bankers specialize in TV advertising. They loan money to companies so they can have commercials made. You can thank Wooly for

I think that's a good read on the situation. I think if he was completely sold on OU he'd already be committed. I've said for awhile that I think we're running even, and that might be wrong, but I'm positive we're not a "hat on the table."

I'm agreeing with Lax (largely out of hope he ends up Irish). Seems like a pretty big contrast in his take on coaching styles. As a very bright kid by all accounts, it seems to me like a more professional attitude might be desired. I'll keep getting my hopes up.

I don't believe Kelly used his in-home visit yet. I could be wrong, but I didn't think he went in-home with Caleb yet.

Kelly did use his in home with Caleb. I'm pretty sure.

Edit: I could be thinking of Mccullough. I looked back in Kelly's thread and didn't see anything about a BK in home.

Wow that's huge I was thinking he had already used it

What's huge is if CK is under the impression that Coach Kelly has a more arm's-distance CEO personality, and Coach Stoops is real personable. That is going to get blown out of the water. Kelly has the gift of gab. He can charm with the best of them.

There are some that believe it's neck and neck. We shall see.
