This is the counter-point to the "Most Overrated Movies" thread since half of that thread was about under-appreciated film work. I'll get it rolling.
"The Color of Money." This movie gets a lot of knocks without being called outright bad. I concede that it isn't as good as "The Hustler" and it's not on par with Martin Scorcese's masterworks. People also like to knock it because they say Paul Newman's Best Actor Oscar was basically a lifetime achievement, he-hasn't-won-a-statue-yet prize. But it's a really good film and I'll say that Newman deserved that Oscar as much as anyone (if it was a gift for Newman, then tell me, without consulting Google, who was the Best Actor who got snubbed? I can't). Yes, it's a small-scale movie, almost like a play, but it esecutes that small story so well. And to me, it's endlessly watchable and timeless. To me, that's one of Scorcese's strengths that is on display here; his ability to make a film that, no matter where you come in, you stop and watch.
