The scientifically perfect rushing distribution model:

Adams/Williams ... 30 ..... fluctuates on who's hot
Wimbush .............. 7.5 .... design/scramble/sack
Jones ................... 3 ........ mostly mop up, will get significant time but as a 3rd down back.
WR's .................... 1.5 ..... gotta throw 20 sweeps in for the year.

And Holmes redshirts to be super safe about that shoulder?

It includes all sacks and scrambles. By saying 15-10-10 for this year you're effectively saying you'd have less than 30 designed/called runs a game in an offense that will probably take 75+ snaps every game. That'd be horrible imbalance, so you might want to rethink your totals. Trying to throw 40+ times a game with this line and backs would make me want to break things.

I expect by the end of the year it looks something like:
Adams - 18
Williams -12
Jones - 10
Wimbush - 8 (3 designed, 5 scrambles, no sacks included in this number)

Total - 43 designed runs a game to go with about 32 drop backs.

I guess a lot of it depends if we can get more snaps. Last year we had 68.8 per game.

32.3 passing attempts/game
36.5 runs/game (includes sacks/scrambles)

Rushing attempts/game by player (includes sacks/scrambles)
Adams 13.2
Kizer 10.8
Folston 6.4
Williams 3.2

Ranking the Best Backfields for 2017 College Football Season | Bleacher Report

Someone at ND needs to talk to their cohorts at Bleacher Report about glaring inaccuracies:

Adams won't break many big runs, but he'll regularly churn out six, seven and eight yards

Josh Adams is good and will have a great year.

this. thats why i want his carries closer to 20. trying to tackle him all game, then we bring in Juice and mix in some of Wimbush and Jones, we could have the defense really beat and on its heels by games end.

lols. He only has the longest run in Notre Dame stadium history...SMH

Chronically undeappreciated. He's one of the best football players we've had in a decade.

If he's healthy Adams will have a monster year and will be a possible 1st round NFL pick next spring.

That must be purely a guess on their part as ND will not release an official depth chart until August.

ISD also projects TJ as the no. 2 back. I'm starting to wonder if this rumored second transfer is actually Williams.

We had a pretty good three-headed attack in '12; there's evidence that all three can prosper.

Adams to be no.1 (Theo), and Juice/TJ (Cierre/GAIII) to be 2A/2B depending on down/distance/situation/defense.

If he's healthy Adams will have a monster year and will be a possible 1st round NFL pick next spring.

As in, you think he could leave early?

That would absolutely suck, because Dex has talent.

He sure does, but if that was a sign that we are going to a ground and pound type rushing attack with two big ol' boys in Adams/Jones. I would be okay.

Koon's horror would be delicious too.

But no... joking aside, I really like Dex and I wouldn't be happy about it.

I'm all for the big boys pounding it out, but I prefer Dex be a part of that equation

It would be extremely bad for the depth chart. He's a good player and someone will get hurt.

Me too. Hope that came across.

Meh. We have CJ Holmes and Neon Deon too. With Stepp coming in next year. We are okay with our RB depth.

But again... I wouldn't be pleased either.

Yup.

Re: Juice, it's my complete hunch that Dex and Jones are 2A, 2B and will be used per the situation. If Jones truly is #2, that just means he's better than Dex and that's a plus for ND.

That's my hope. There are situations where we would want to keep pounding them with a big back and times where we have already wore them down and can bring the lightning with Dex. Having the three of them is an awesome luxury. I just hope that we get the opportunity to take advantage of it.

With that depth. We should be running the ball close to 60% of the time.

It did.

Holmes is coming off an injury and Deon was moved to receiver last year due to the backfield. Since one of the running backs always seems to get injured, I want a solid #3 guy who will become #2 if Adams' hammy acts up again or if TJ gets a high ankle sprain.

I hear ya, and totally agree, but that is a luxury. Hell, we found CJ Procise with worse depth than we would have if Dex transferred. It would be preferred to have three dudes all at starter quality, but we aren't hurting if we only have two. One of Neon Deon or Holmes would be able to suffice in a worst case scenario.

Maybe, but you know how it'll work.

BK: Adams has a hammy? F*ck it, bubble screens are just an extension of the run game, we'll do that instead

We don't have any information suggesting Dex is transferring, right? This is all conjecture? Because I'd expect him to be #2 unless he's incapable of catching the ball or picking up blitzes. The man has been here going on 3 years and runs with authority.

It would be a serious loss to no longer have him on our roster.

And yes, it's reassuring we have two other quality RBs and some unproven frosh but I want Dex getting his ND degree and eclipsing 1k yards. He has the talent.

YES. The entire Dex conversation is simply conjecture. There aren't any rumors that I know of.

That being said.... the bubble screen fear is real....

Wrong. It's terribly difficult to be drafted in the first round. He'll have to have over 1500 yds, 20 TDs rushing and never miss a blitz pickup. And he'd probably need to add 3-500 yds receiving with 5-10 TDs.

Look at the RBs that have gone in the first round of the draft the last couple years and look at their career numbers.

That said, I'd be pleasantly surprised if he actually hit those targets.

That's why I said if he can have a healthy season. He had just short of 1000 yards last year while averaging a paltry 12 carries a game. His ypc were 6.0 which is where the top RB's are usually at. If he could just average 18 carries a game at 6.5 yards a carry that puts him near the 1500 yard mark. Blocking in pass pro? All college backs have a lot to learn about pass protection. Fournette was horrible at it. Le'Veon Bell is the only college RB I've seen recently who was ready to pass pro as rookie in the NFL. Ill put it this way, if Adams stays healthy and the offense is as good as we think it will be 1500 yards is definitely reachable and he'd be a likely top 50-60 pick. And if you're a RB you go. Only so many carries in that body so might as well get payed for it.

This I can agree with. I'd probably extend it to a top 60-90 pick because RBs simply don't carry the same type of high-market value as they once did. But your point isn't absurd and I can only hope Adams reaches the number we threw out. If he does, we're in for a hell of a year.
