So that leaves ND without a single apostrophe on the active roster.

We're screwed

Jones didn't have an apostrophe in his name. An apostrophe is used in place of missing letters such as in the word didn't, or for Irish surnames like O'Brien. It is also used to indicate a possessive.

His first name is spelled with an accent, called an acute, over the e, like this, é to empathize pronunciation.

One who type his first name Aliz'e is the Tom Hammond of typing.

I think the person this benefits most is Boykin and Claypool. I think Claypool has the size and speed to be a pretty close clone to Alize Jones.

I was thinking the same thing... With Robinson gone, I thought Jones was going to become a red zone beast... now I think Claypool will have every chance to become that guy

You guys are excited about Tyler Luatua coming back? What is he bringing us in the passing game? Sure as a blocker it will be nice to have him back but we ran the ball just fine without him last year and he has zero career catches. What am I missing?

Ran fine without him? Huh? He played a lot last year and in most of our big runs he had great blocks. Look back in the highlights of last year. The majority of big or TD runs he had a hand in.

Chase is about an inch taller than Jones. At the end of their senior years both were at around 220. And Claypool is actually faster.

I for one am excited to have him back, I think he's one of the best blocking H-backs in the country.

Wonder if this will impact Echols' decision at all. They really hit it off on Echols' visit if I remember correctly.

Sharpley has a write up at 247 saying this is a bigger hit to ND than people realize. Said in the spring, the offense was literally different because of Alize, and BK will have to adjust his offensive strategy. Said Alize was targeted the most and it wasn't close.

On Smythe/Weisher: "The way it currently stands and what I saw in the spring, I do not view either as a threat to catch the ball."

Now everyone trash Sharpley because we don't like the truth when it hurts.

Would you feel better if Sharpley had a good experience at a timeshare presentation?

He's also 100x less refined of a football player as Jones.

I don't expect Claypool to play this year. Think he needs a year before he breaks out as a big player.

No disrespect to Sharpley but Alize is used differently than Smythe/Weisher because Alize isn't really a TE IMO. Smythe can be used as a blocker which is something BK could not use Alize for. Alize is our version of Devin Funchess. I think someone like Miles Boykin could really take off with this opportunity or maybe even Claypool depending on his summer/fall goes

I think we'll be fine. Kelly will figure something out offensively to make it work.

Stop blaming Notre Dame. It's not like the school wants this kind of news to come from it's institution or football program.

Alizé Jones failed to get a 1.8 GPA his freshman year. A 1.8. Sometimes you have to look in the mirror and take responsibility yourself.

Alizé said the typical stuff in his statement, but will he do it? It's not hard to get a 2.0...that's a C average. It's all about effort. Getting a C average at Notre Dame regardless of who you are is attainable with with the help Notre Dame provide. You just have to take the help and actually apply yourself.

100% correct. 1.8????

What sucks is instead of one year RSing and building strength, now there will be two very similar players fighting for the same position next year and only one can play at a time.

That's giving Hammond a little too much credit. "Aliz'ard" would be the Tom Hammond of typing.

I think that's a reasonable assessment. This offense does change with Aliz'e out. I'm guessing he was going to be our 'cushion' guy.

But Kelly, Denbrock & Sanford have known about this long enough to already begin mapping out our options. Remember we have those three brainstorming and that gives me some solace after losing a potential breakout player. We have a large number of bodies at the WR positions, we just need some players to emerge.

I really hope Aliz'e puts in the work academically and in workouts so he comes out beast mode next year. He's said the right words, let's see if his actions follow.

Not to be a dick to Sharpley, but did he ever consider that the reason why he was targeted the most is that spring ball is the "test kitchen" where you try new things? Maybe that's not how Weis ran spring ball, but the emphasis in spring practice is usually on player development... if they want to see how Alize might work in a new role, and how effective a new scheme might be, then they need to runs lots of reps at it. That doesn't mean that when we get to the regular season we were going to see him get that same volume of targets.

Yup, and if literally every other player could do it then there obviously wasn't some impossible task.

Our offense was pretty good last year. We only had 20 receptions by TE and 13 by Jones. With our stable at RB and 2 top tier QB's I can't imagine we'd have a hard time moving the ball without him.

Remember we have Smythe, Weishar and Luatua with a couple youngins as well. We should be fine but I was also expecting Aliz'e to give us a mismatch that Kelly likes to exploit.

Hopefully the other TEs recognize their time is now.

They will. Jones will be missed but we do have other TEs. Boykin could also fill in some he is a mismatch as well.

I'm trying to remember but didn't Sharpley say some ludicrous stuff last offseason

Honestly can't remember. Was it about our D being completely terrible or something?

I 100% agree with this but I should point out that for some of these guys a 2.0 is not a walk in the park. I informally tutored a couple buddies on the team, both now in the NFL, freshman year. They both genuinely worked hard at it, studied a lot, asked the professor for extra help, etc. and one of them ended up having to drop the class because he just couldn't figure it out. This was intro econ freshman year, not some super tough class. I agree that on average a 2.0 is attainable for everyone, but it's not as simple as just showing up for some guys.

We get it, Koon. You are IE's resident expert on being realistic about how everything sucks worse than we think. The rest of us are just sunshine-pumping homers that can't even think a little bit objectively.

Give it a rest, guy.
