I think he means EG being short requires the OL to establish lanes for him to throw the ball effectively over the middle. I for one also think EG struggles throwing over the middle but not bc BK doesn't establish throwing lanes.

I think he is just short, and doesn't see the middle of the field well...throwing lanes or not. There are plenty of short QBs who throw well over the middle but for whatever reason EG doesn't. He needs a running game playing down and distance. Give him a serious play action option and he'd be amazing.

Back to thread...Jones is an amazing talent and whoever is chucking the ball will be very happy to have him on their team.

Golson working out of the I and PA would be ideal for him I feel too. He could really use the distance from the line on a traditional deep drop to let the play unfold in front of him. He never looks comfortable when faking the inside hand off and then dropping back. Plus, he often times doesn't have the room to step into his throws with his PA off of the insdie hand offs as he doesn't drop quick enough, or deep enough.

I have no idea if it would be a nice complimentary play package or if it would work at all. It just looks like it should. I'd look at how Drew Brees and the Saints diagram plays and steal a few because that's what I see Golson as more than everyone trying to say he's Russell Wilson.

I agree, that is a great point...I also see EG more of a Drew Brees opposed to Wilson. But with the ability to use his feet as well...so maybe a combination of both. Russell and Drew both hold on (meaning fumbles) to the football though. First things first.

It all starts at the OL. Doesn't even have to come out of the I formation but I understand what you're saying. Run it out of the gun or pistol if BK wants...just get at least almost 4 yards a carry and let EG work from there.

That is the thing about MZ is he almost guarantees 3 - 4 yards on the first and ten run.

Everett Zaire for Heisman.

2:1 odds (only for you johnny) that he is getting regular time in the TE/WR rotation by UMASS game

I'll be shocked if he doesn't play against Texas. He works back to the ball on extended / broken plays like an NFL vet. Having to play with Martell was a bonus last year. I think they'll use him untraditionally like Eifert was. He's a 3 year talent, don't settle for just 2.

Interesting thoughts.

You think he's a short term investment rather than a 4-5 year guy?

I'm thinking longer term due to the depth chart in front of him with Weishar, Smythe, and Luatua.

Dude, could you wait till Johnny bites on the bet to make this point lol.
I think he will see action right away as well. Sparingly vs TX, a bit more against VA and GT, then breaks out against UMASS. Doesn't look back from then. Leads ND in TD receptions this year.

That and I love maturing kids with red shirting.

I mean, I played NCAA football religiously and didn't start my studs on there if they were freshman. ;)

Unless they were created players all named Johnnykillz that didn't sign with another college after I had made Notre Dame their favorite school. (Used to make me so mad. Lol.)

I don't think Aliz'e Jones is redshirting and I believe he will be our second bet at pass catching TE behind Smythe from day 1. He has more talent then any TE on this roster. Hopefully Kelly gets this 5 star ready to play =]

Three and done player he's not a complete TE like Rudolph but he might break every record Eifert has. I think he's that good and many others do as well. Just if Aliz'e wants to be, always been the issue with him.

Man that Johnnykillz was one of my favorites. Where'd that guy go. What the hell happened to him? :)

His girlfriend (?) is a pretty lady. They didn't make high school girls like that when I was in high school.

think I saw another post or tweet or something. she's going to a pac10 school I think.
dude will get more @$$ than a toilet seat, even at ND. even if Nico has to fly some smoking hot Vegas girls in.

Over Luatua? That's asking an awful lot from a true freshman. Especially since Luatua can block like a mean sumbitch

I guess I'm just considering situational packages. Tyler will definitely play. But Alize is already up to 241. He's going to push Smythe and Tyler, both. I'm not labeling Alize an AA, mind you. I'm simply saying this kid is going to play and it won't surprise me if it's against TX in the opener. (The only reason I mentioned "starting" is because I can see him lining up in BK's two-TE sets to throw the ball...Tyler is more of a blocking TE).

I'll wait to see how he handles himself amongst the other big boys. He's no longer the biggest guy in the room. I love Alize's potential but TE is hard to crack as a true freshman.

I wonder if Kelly would set him at 3rd and allow him a few plays while starting him on STs? Can he tackle? Did he play LB in high school?

I don't see Alize taking a redshirt unless he's alright with it. You don't let the players call the shots but you do take into account the mental make-up and expectations and how ready they are to contribute.
