My brother's friend (I know the kid so it's a legit source to me) is at ND right now getting his MBA and is friendly with some of the older guys on the team. From what he's heard, Jones is already a tougher cover than Eifert was at any point in his career. May mean nothing since it's just summer ball, but figured I'd pass it along.

Kid will be the best past catching TE we've ever had. Will lead the team in TDs catches the second half of the season. Book it. Pour me some more of that green kool aid

Hope so. He should be more WR than TE in his first year, and that is probably the easiest position for a true frosh to play. I'd love to see him in the slot. Let him toast a LB or run it and block a CB if they want to put a faster guy on him.

I think we'll see him used all over the field by mid season. Likely start with a few simple routes early on, but the kid is going to be a mismatch nightmare for any team.

If that would be true, Jones would be the biggest mismatch in College Football this year.

15 Storylines for 2015 Football Season: Impact Newcomers - One Foot Down

Aliz'e Jones: The top tight end of the 2015 recruiting class has the talent to play right away, but can he overtake Durham Smythe in a few weeks of practice? Notre Dame already has one giant red zone threat in Corey Robinson, but Jones could also get work close to the goal line. The role of the tight end in Brian Kelly's offense is also something to keep an eye on if the multiple formations with H-backs in the Music City Bowl were any indication of what the Malik Zaire-led offense will look like.

I see him on campus all the time, along with a lot of the other freshmen. He's friggin' huge. It's unreal that he just finished his high school season.

St. Brown and Bilal are huge as well.

I really think this class will be a great one but we have some serious conjecture flying around. If Tillery, Alize, Saunders, ESB, Coney, etc. can have the impact we keep reading about, this is going to go down as one of NDs greatest recruiting classes of all-time.

We should see a pretty nice bump in red zone efficiency if we can implement a red zone set with Alize and Robinson split out, Luatua at Hback and Malik running a read option.

Please baby Jesus...

Plot twist: fly sweep to Chris Brown for -4 yards.

He's too good to keep off the field for long. I'll guarantee you see him lined up at H back, 2 TE sets, in the slot and outside this year. Dude gets open better than any WR I saw last year. Maybe not on the first move or route everytime but when the play breaks down, watch him work back to the ball like a pro.

On the otherhand, Smythe is obviously a better TE right now and the depth at receiver will make it hard for AJ to get snaps like Eifert used to split out. The depth now vs. when Eifert only had to share the ball with TJ Jones, Daniels and Floyd in the '11 & '12 seasons is tremendous. Still, he's gonna play because he's THAT good.

I've watched a lot of tape...best I've ever seen out of HS TE. Someone please point out better, love to see those highlights.

He would start on an NFL team by week 6.

I agree. Seems like our red zone has been pretty average under Kelly. Im hoping that changes this year and I expect it to.

With all I've read and with his potential I see this kid starting midseason.
