I bring it up because it's hard for a guy that big to anchor in the middle without a low, solid base. Jarron struggled with his pad level almost the entire season, preventing him from attaining the base a tall guy needs, IMO.

That doesn't mean Tillery won't be a phenomenal DT, but the height could be an issue based simply on the technique needed in the middle.

Leverage is the name of the game up front. Its why guys like Elvis Dumervil have a chance at succeeding when they are much smaller then most at their position.

I'm honestly a lot less happy about him switching sides if Stanley goes pro. If he's Michael Brockers 2.0 then I'll get over it pretty quick lol.

This is going to sound kinda stupid, but unless he's grown he's closer 6'5" than 6'7"... and JJ Watt is 6'5" 290. I'm not saying he'll be JJ Watt, what I am saying is that you can play on the line as a tall guy. The key is having an explosive first step and being able to use your length to your advantage. If you can use your hands to disengage then you can compensate for a lack of leverage and blow by people.

Not sure Dumervil is the best comparison as he plays on the outside. Inherently its a lot harder for guys of this size to play with proper leverage thats why you don't see that many 6'5+ DT's. With that said, if you are able to do it, those long levers come in pretty darn handy.

I might be wrong, but Tillery doesn't strike me as a JJ Watt, Richard Seymour, or Stephon Tuitt-type big pass rusher. I think his best chance for success would be an inside run-stuffer, and that plays more towards the leverage point that folks have been discussing more than the explosive first step that you mention.

Exactly, that's all I was trying to say lol. Wasn't trying to be a wet blanket or cast doubt, it's just something to think about.

Also, a lot of the 6'5 DT's are usually best suited for 5 tech in a 3-4 scheme. Ex. all the names mentioned above.

I wasn't using Dumervil as an example for Tillery. I was using Dumervil as an example of how leverage is important on the DL. Smaller guys like Dumervil are successful because for them, being smaller on the line going up against bigger OL, they are able to gain leverage quicker.

I was attempting to support IrishLion10.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure haha.

The Dumerville thing threw me off. When I think of a short DT from Louisville, I think of Amobi Okoye, so I confused the two in my head.

If LSU wants you as a D-Tackle you know you have talent. I like the move as we need D-Tackles a lot and if he's elite him and the rest of the D-tackles can provide the depth we haven't had since the Holtz era.

Martin had broken his hand, and BK stated this was partly why...wanted more physicality up front...again NOT MY words , this was from pressers

Well that does explain things. Forgot that Martin was hurt, of course we've had so many walking wounded that I've lost track.

Not necessarily. Look at the classes over the last 4 years and add up all the high 4 and 5 star players that are not currently on the roster. If we had even half those guys this year along with the injured guys I think we finish undefeated. Our D would be insane and offense very explosive.

Well if you're talking about the transfers, then that blame needs to fall on the staff, no? I mean one or two transfers now & then is probably par for the course, but it's pretty consistent at ND. When the majority of the Cali kids end up decommitting or transferring then maybe it's time to be more selective about who the pursue in that talent-laden state. IOW, saying "them's the breaks!" doesn't cut it anymore...not when it happens at the rate it's happened.

What did I miss? Never mind...don't want to know.

Nothing really. NDSean was being his normal self and a few of us were attempting to dispel his notion on something. He wasn't being attacked.

Cack has a quick trigger today.

I've never been on another Internet message board of any type. Is it normal for everyone to fight and try to one up one another constantly, even if they're there as fans of the same team? Or is this an IE thing?

It's quite common.

It was basically 30+ posts of OT stuff. And yes NDSean44 was way off.

Legs too long. He is elite OT talent and average DT talent. Probably just a selling point and he ends up at OT in the end. Arm length is ideal for neutralizing outside pass rushes and downhill running game.

I would tend to agree, although the tape of him at DT is much better than I thought it would. If we were running the 3-4 he could be a great 5 technique. Tillery looks athletic enough to play LT, although I'd prefer him be a very athletic RT with Nelson at LT.
