He said tell him how they are GOOD or ELITE. We just agreed that is great. Mizzou has meh recruiting classes. I took it as if GB was saying we are that level. If we are not even good the what is good? What is elite? Again, here I am asking because I got a question for n answer. I wasn't trying to be a dick but I have yet to get an answer on what the mark is.

I do agree when ranking against just the POWER 5 are more great than elite. (Or good over great) Yet, I don't think a top 11, regardless of who you rank it against is bad. I got top 11 by simply putting our classes toegther over last 5 years including 2015 and averaging. I can tell you it is only the POWER 5 schools up there. That should be the focus because that is where we fall.

So the recruits are either overrated or under coached.

Not necessarily. Look at the classes over the last 4 years and add up all the high 4 and 5 star players that are not currently on the roster. If we had even half those guys this year along with the injured guys I think we finish undefeated. Our D would be insane and offense very explosive.

I didn't think about the players counted that we lost. That is a great point. Again, was looking for an answer and not trying to be a dick. Was just looking for a why. That may well just be it. All the recruits that bailed and then the guys we lost by slow play that turned out good.

As far as Dodger dood though.. no one blamed coaching. I just said don't use that because it wasn't the point. Not sure where you felt jumping in with that was necessary but FAIL.

Apparently we saw his defensive highlights and he'll be strictly defense now. At least this is how Tillery's mom perceived the message and conveyed it to Loy. Jerry told Les that he'll always be an LSU fan as its his home state but he made the decision that was best for him.

talk about killing 2 birds w/ one stone...he wanted to play def from things i have read in the past...lsu liked him there which was enticing so this is win win for ND as we needed big bodied guys and the oline depth was looking a lil scary to someone coming in..

He did show incredible agility for a man his size in those defensive highlights, and boy do we ever need help on the DL. If we are comfortable with our OL recruiting (and we should be - just need to develop), and Jerry is on board or prefers it, I actually like it a lot.

Tillery is regarded as the state's best offensive lineman prospect, but has been extremely disruptive at defensive tackle for Evangel as well. As for his favorite position, well, Tillery just wants to play.

"I feel like I can be a great offensive tackle or defensive tackle," he said. "Ultimately, I just want to play early so whatever position I'm needed at the most is fine with me.

"LSU is telling me they have pretty good depth on the defensive line. They have some offensive tackles leaving so they need some young guys there. That's what I hear mostly from them.

"Notre Dame has a need at both positions and they told me I can play whatever I want. I talk to the offensive line coach mostly so I anticipate that I would be playing on that side of the ball up there.

The Tigers have made a strong push to keep Tillery home. The effort began shortly after the hiring of offensive line coach Jeff Grimes earlier this year. The newly appointed trench-trainer had a lot of ground to make up.

"The previous offensive line coach didn't recruit me at all so I didn't hear anything from LSU until Coach Grimes got there," Tillery said. "We've built a good relationship since then. He's a player's coach and he has coached some pretty big names. He is just an all-around good guy."

One of the best things about Jerry Tillery is you are talking about a kid that can carry his weight well,” Dawson said. "When you are 6-7, you can carry 300, 300-plus pounds pretty well. The amazing thing about Jerry is he has gotten fitter. You are talking about a kid that runs 5K’s and marathons all the time. How many 6-7, 300-plus pound kids can do that? It has allowed him to take his game to another level because the kid can move.

"To see him be able to run around and fly, I truly believe he could be an outstanding defensive tackle, too. He reminds me of a (former LSU defensive tackle) Michael Brockers, and Jerry has been told that himself by reliable sources, including LSU head coach Les Miles. I really feel like the kid could play defense in college if he wanted to. The biggest thing for him is as an offensive lineman, he is just an average size guy, but if he plays defensive line he would be a monster.”

Where are those highlights at? His hudl page only has 1 game from this year

Why don't some of you like a tall DT? I'm all for it. I like the lean that Jones puts on the middle of the offense. Swatted balls too.

I bring it up because it's hard for a guy that big to anchor in the middle without a low, solid base. Jarron struggled with his pad level almost the entire season, preventing him from attaining the base a tall guy needs, IMO.

That doesn't mean Tillery won't be a phenomenal DT, but the height could be an issue based simply on the technique needed in the middle.

def but the pad level usually has to do w/ indvs who just had to use their sheer size vs competition...in LA the competition much tougher than NY...so less bad habits to undo...but yes jones def struggled w/ it..which is why KOON he disappeared a lot in games because the moment he comes up it is easier to move right out of the way

I do as well. I think this year we got away from putting the best 5 lineman out there and the result wasn't good. I think we get back to that and Nelson will be 1 of the best 5, removing one of the G's.

I think we did originally, but it wasn't working at first, and Kelly pushed the panic button and flipped everyone around. Honestly, had we stuck with that lineup, it probably would have yielded better results.

Can anyone explain why in the blue Hell Kelly switched Martin to Guard and put Hegarty in at Center? I just can't fathom that. He wanted to get more physical inside, so put possibly the softest lineman on the team at Center? It just boggles my mind how he thought that was a good idea. My dream lineup would be:

LT - Stanley
LG - Nelson
C - Martin
RG - Elmer
RT - McGlinchey

Bivin (NMI at Guard)
Hoge (Backup Center)
McGovern or Bars (NMI at Tackle)

If Stanley leaves, then Nelson would more than likely take that spot and Bivin would move in at LG.

Agreed. Jarron's issues began with porous technique. While it has improved, he still has work to do in that regard. Probably be a good idea to never have Jarron playing vs. Navy, considering his issue with pad level and their penchant for cut blocking.

So, defensively, how does JR Tillery look compared to Taylor, Tiassum and Mackadoo?

Martin had broken his hand, and BK stated this was partly why...wanted more physicality up front...again NOT MY words , this was from pressers
