TBH, if we were to lose a DL recruit, Tiassum would be the first to go in my book. I like our other prospects a lot better. That being said, there seems to be no reason to let him go, and I still do like him as a prospect, he'll just need a lot more work to get him on the field.

Mattingly was a weird situation, not sure I ever got a complete story there. But basically I think it was a combination of him wanting to play offense, ND wanting him to play DOG linebacker, Mattingly wanting to take visits, ND being undefeated and not giving a crap, and then a mutual parting of ways. I'm pretty sure I heard Oregon told him he could play TE. Of course, he currently plays linebacker.

Didn't they also tell Christian French that he would play TE, or am I making that up?

Towards what jimmymac said, I tried checking on it and I'm not sure it's accurate. Obviously, there is a lot that people have questioned about Tiassum since he was offered through his senior season and all-star game performance. People have raised concerns over basically everything, including conditioning and projection, and with Tillery cycling to the DL I follow where this is coming from.

With that being said...
1) I'm skeptical that we'd push someone out, period. Obviously, conduct and academics excepted.
2) ISD is reporting that the rumor doesn't appear to be true.
3) I haven't yet heard a source of any kind say it's true.

So, we'll see what happens but I'd pump the breaks for now until it's better confirmed or denied.

Appreciate you looking further into it lax. Just wanted to pass over the information that had been provided to me.

This may be more than just the move of Tillery to DL. More likely a combination of Tiller to DL, Scarlett potentially grad transfer. Then mix in us knocking on OL doors maybe they prefer his scholarhship to go to OL with two "new" DL coming in.

Hard telling with crootin'.

Yeah, and I should clarify that no one has shot it down either. So it could definitely be true, and it definitely didn't come out of thin air. But it also hasn't been confirmed yet, so I just wanted people to slow down to reacting about Notre Dame 'pushing someone out' until we're sure that is happening.

Ethically I don't like pushing recruits out, and I'm not sure I get why we would ever do that. We never have 85, so if they want to add someone else to the class just do that and figure the math out later. Somehow I doubt it will end up being an issue.

Agree totally. We never hit 85 and the staff knows that as well, so I doubt they are pushing him out. The kid goes to Park Tudor, so you don't have to worry about academics.

I don't know anything about this school you are talking about but every school has that hand full of kids that don't do well in school.

Good! I hope we're all saying "damn what a find he was" four years from now.

Not Park Tudor. They're a private school with a heavy emphasis on academics. If you're not cutting it, they won't keep you.

Mike Farrell named him his 3 star DT that could play above his ranking:

DT: Brandon Tiassum, Notre Dame commitment.
Tiassum is a big kid who can also move, and I think he will be a nice fit in what Notre Dame wants to do on defense with 3-technique tackles who can not only stuff the run but push the pocket and shoot the gap at times. Tiassum is used to being in the offensive backfield in high school, and that could be the case in college as well.

We have had a lot of success with our Indiana kids thus far. Martin brothers. Eifert. Day. Jaylon.

I believe this recruiting class will continue that theme

Ironman I am curious on your thoughts on Tiassum

I think he is going to need a lot of work, both in the weight room and with technique. If he works hard and gets the help he needs, he could surprise some people and be a good player for us. If not, he may have a noise-less career. I honestly think it could go either way.

To me though, you have to take Tiassum, for a number of reasons. He is a local, high character kid at a position you can never have enough bodies, and has the frame to really develop into a pretty good DT. Again though, him being a good DT for ND is a long time off, but I could see it happening with the tools he has. Hope it does.

Fair and honest assessment. I honestly don't see it with this kid and I am not trying to rip him or anything. Just don't see any burst or his hand placement is just to high. He also plays way to high, hopefully like you said it works out. I just don't see Mike Elston making him a player. Hope he proves me wrong

Elston may never actually coach him if CMU have their way.

See him basically doing what Cage did for this year. Situational Run-Stuffer. Atleast he's a big body.
