Good Luck Miles!!
Thank you for all those awesome and tough grabs over the years.
ND Man!
I do wonder/hope that - now designing an offense for an experienced Book instead of unreliable Wimbush/rookie Book - Kelly and Long take some of the reins off the passing game. Maybe lean a little less on uber-reliable types like Boykin and Finke and a little more on high-upside guys like Lenzy, Young and Austin. We'll see.
I don't think we should squander Austin to feed Boykin, not at all. But I like having Boykin there too. I also don't think we should underestimate the off-field leadership a veteran like him can provide. We will need that next year.
Agree on all counts. I think there's a lot they can do with Book that they didn't this year. But I also think they tried to force some other things that Book, nor the OL or WRs were ready for too. I expect our rotation and play calling to be a lot different this coming season. Sure will be interesting.
No not at all. I understand why he is leaving and I would understand if he stayed.
I'm where you are. I can understand why he would take either path.
Hate that we'll miss his sure hands and leadership, but I'm also looking forward to seeing what the new guys can and will do.
So does Claypool take #1 or eyes Kevin Austin step up and take it over
I think it depends on several things, like if they move folks around position wise. If Austin stays in the same W position, I think Austin takes lead. If they move folks around, maybe not. Also depends on their game plan strategy for the year. Without Dex, and assuming a better line and improved Book, I think we'll see a shift from good hands possession type passing, over to speed and longer balls. I could see them keeping Austin and W, and moving Claypool to W there as well (letting Young and Lenzy split X).
Personally I'd shake it up even more.
Chip's offense makes it easier to recruit TE's and harder to recruit WR's.
IDK. For having probably the best rated and deepest TE group in the nation, we sure didn't rely on them a lot if that's Chip's bread and butter. Our best TE was 4th in catches. Personally I though Chip was under utilizing them. I think BW's challenges hurt us a bit with WR recruiting. I would think Books completion % and QBR, and they promise/potential of PJ should make things easier in 19 and 20
