I really hope we see more 10 personnel next year. I think Sampson reported it, but we literally never went 4 wide receivers once in the entire season. Definitely hard to recruit WRs when we aren’t creative at getting the talent on the field. Hopefully we see more Austin-Keys-Young next year

Chip's offense makes it easier to recruit TE's and harder to recruit WR's.

We should be putting more guys into the league at WR worth a damn other then Michael Floyd, William Fuller and Golden Tate. But our QB play hasn't been consistent for a season or two since Jimmy Clausen and we haven't put up monster WR numbers to attract top talent. I do believe in Ian Book and this passing attack, if not 15 will be a hell of a ball player. I really like who we brought in last year with Keys, Jones and Lenzy. Three guys who can really make plays with the ball in their hands. We need to stop taking a bunch of 6'5 WR's who run 4.7. They are huge in the red zone but ND needs to land some play makers who put a fear in a defense. You could tell how much it was lacking vs Clemson and then seeing Justyn Ross a true freshman light us up hurt.

Good Luck Miles!!
Thank you for all those awesome and tough grabs over the years.
ND Man!

I do wonder/hope that - now designing an offense for an experienced Book instead of unreliable Wimbush/rookie Book - Kelly and Long take some of the reins off the passing game. Maybe lean a little less on uber-reliable types like Boykin and Finke and a little more on high-upside guys like Lenzy, Young and Austin. We'll see.

I don't think we should squander Austin to feed Boykin, not at all. But I like having Boykin there too. I also don't think we should underestimate the off-field leadership a veteran like him can provide. We will need that next year.

Agree on all counts. I think there's a lot they can do with Book that they didn't this year. But I also think they tried to force some other things that Book, nor the OL or WRs were ready for too. I expect our rotation and play calling to be a lot different this coming season. Sure will be interesting.

No not at all. I understand why he is leaving and I would understand if he stayed.

I'm where you are. I can understand why he would take either path.

Hate that we'll miss his sure hands and leadership, but I'm also looking forward to seeing what the new guys can and will do.

So does Claypool take #1 or eyes Kevin Austin step up and take it over

I think it depends on several things, like if they move folks around position wise. If Austin stays in the same W position, I think Austin takes lead. If they move folks around, maybe not. Also depends on their game plan strategy for the year. Without Dex, and assuming a better line and improved Book, I think we'll see a shift from good hands possession type passing, over to speed and longer balls. I could see them keeping Austin and W, and moving Claypool to W there as well (letting Young and Lenzy split X).

Personally I'd shake it up even more.

Chip's offense makes it easier to recruit TE's and harder to recruit WR's.

IDK. For having probably the best rated and deepest TE group in the nation, we sure didn't rely on them a lot if that's Chip's bread and butter. Our best TE was 4th in catches. Personally I though Chip was under utilizing them. I think BW's challenges hurt us a bit with WR recruiting. I would think Books completion % and QBR, and they promise/potential of PJ should make things easier in 19 and 20

Well, according to Pop St. Brown, if BW was a better passer, ESB would have stayed another year. And if ESB had stayed another year, Amon-Ra would have come to Notre Dame. So, there's that.

Also losing Kevin Stepherson left a big hole in our passing game. The guy was basically Golden Tate, if Tate had a massive drug/petty crime problem.

Yup on the SBs..... I can understand why he left, but I bet you he wished he had stayed after Book was given the job.

Hope KS gets his shit straight. Great talent. Sad waste.

hope he runs well to boost his stock.
220 is 8-10 lbs lighter than I've seen him at, so likely looking to improve the 40

Um....he is having himself a day 4.47.

Should have played at 220 throughout his career.

Could this get him into the 2nd 3rd round?

I'm not surprised our guys are doing well. The first time I heard about Balis was when a bunch of UConn guys did really well at the combine. If anything, I was a bit disappointed with how guys did last year. I guess they needed another year in his program.

Um he just ran a second unofficial of 4.42.

See I told you all it was Book’s lack of arm strength and accuracy on deep balls holding him back.

I don't understand why he wouldn't come back. He's not gonna be a 4th 5th round pick like another poster stated. You can't have to many 5th year seniors on your roster but he's gonna run 4.6 4.7 he's not gonna get any bigger or faster really. He is who he is and there are 200 Miles Boykin's trying to make the NFL. Does he do anything differently then anyone else at his size? He's not gonna blow you away downfield ever. I would love to have him back for leadership and clutch catches. Would love to see other guys get those catches as well.

This aged well.

Goodness with those numbers I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes in the 2nd or 3rd.
