Next years WR class is expected to be a lot stronger than this years and I don’t know what another 900 yd. season with a low teens yds/rec does to increase his stock.

Was his name put in for feedback and if so, do we know what he got? Because at first this seems kind of shocking, but I wonder if it was like Love where his feedback on things to improve was basically physical traits and not really something he can work on with another year in college.

He did get feedback, and his prediction was higher than expected.

I want him back but if he was a cold stone size, hed be a "like it", not a love it, or gotta have it.

Kevin Austin needs to play. Just like Dexter needed to play in 2017 and 2016 but didn't.

These grades have me wondering who gives them and why? Is ESPN's fat head Mel Kiper the main assault on our up and coming guys?

Yeah, I can’t see him helping his football future by having a bigger year simply because it’s going to be a deeper rotation at the position and he basically never came off the field this season. It sucks to lose him but I understand the logic here.

while i would love to see him come back, i think it might be the best time to go, and perhaps healthier for the team. His targets will likely decrease (if they don't, something is really wrong with player dev) so his stock might be at peak. The young guys need to emerge, and would be ideal to have them going into spring ball getting more targets.

Could maybe improve slightly with quickness and route-running, but physically he’s probably about where he’s going to be in a year. He really can’t improve his ball skills too much (already very good imo) and won’t dramatically increase other attributes. I suppose if the wr class is weak this year, it’s probably best he go..... Honestly (if though less productive) Claypool has higher upside and is a beast on ST. Forced to choose I’d keep him over Boykin. This also opens the door for an unproven guy to step up. There’s definitely talent there....

It will open up a speed spot though. Inexperienced spot but it’ll bring speed hopefully. I Think he’ll be a late middle round at best.

As explained at the link in the article, https://operations.nfl.com/media/3018/2017-cac_a-head-coachs-guide.pdf

The Committee is comprised of senior personnel evaluators from the NFL’s clubs, together with directors from the League’s two sanctioned scouting organizations (National Football Scouting and BLESTO).

The why is also explained.

Kiper and other talking heads aren't a part of it.

I think he is a 4th/5 round pick if he stays I gurante he doesn’t have as much yards or catches next year with guys like Kevin austin lurkin. Austin needs to play and play a lot, he turns it up another level once the balls in his hands

only if he goes to a team that strongly uses a big slot.

i hope he excels but being better than Tate or Fuller is a tall order given his lack of speed.

Michael Floyd isn’t done yet either. Just some demons to break and hopefully now broke.

I think Miles Boykin will be great to have around for if we switch to the new Ferrari - Philip Jurkovic.

He puke,d stay and get his degree and continue to important to improve. Why can’t he build upon this season the way he did in 2017?

The draft isn't top heavy, but it's pretty deep at the wide out position.
A LOT of 6'4+ guys this year.

I dunno. I agree Boykin probably isn't going to do much to improve his draft stock by coming back next year, but I'm less concerned about that than I am about what he'd mean for Notre Dame.

We talk ourselves into how guys leaving is fine, makes room for young talent, next man in and all that. But in many cases a proven fifth-year senior is more valuable than a "maybe" sophomore, even if they're not as "talented." (Look at what Tranquil did for us this year).

Maybe more importantly, our team next year will need veteran leaders, and Boykin is poised to be one in a way not many others on our offense are. We saw what happened in 2016 when we lost a bunch of quality guys and no one really stepped up in the locker room. I'm worried about that for next year. Boykin would help. That plus his general competence as a wide receiver, I think we're better off with him than without him and - selfishly, I admit - I'd much rather he stay.

Yeah but here is my concern especially knowing Kelly to show loyalty towards older guys. He gives Boykin the starting role next year even though Kevin Austin shows out and plays better in camp. Austin gets limited snaps again next year and Boykin gets the majority, austin then decides to transfer because of lack of playing time.

I’d rather Boykin go, because I think the young guys getting more snaps next year will be better for our program in the long run

Or, Boykin goes. McKinley transfers (b/c he presumably wants to play at some point). Then Austin gets in trouble again in the spring and our WR is who, exactly?
Bird in the hand, my friend.

You still have claypool, finke, Michael young, lenzy, keys, Wilkins, tremble is a stretch TE WR, Micah jones, plus the freshman coming in rahman, hart. That’s 10 guys plenty of depth, Michael young is another guy who needs more touches

Yes, we have lots of WRs on the roster. Boykin, right now anyway, is the best and most experienced. (He also brings something different to our offense than most of those guys, who are small/fast types).
I agree Austin and Young (and probably some of the others) need more touches. But that doesn't mean we're better off without Boykin. We just need to rotate our WRs more.

This!

We have depth at WR. A lot unproven but Young has proven he can play. I hope to see more of him next year

Boykin and Claypool at once, is too much imo.

Claypool / Finke (Keys, Lenzy) / Austin more balanced/dynamic imo.

Wow if he goes that’s a hell of a surprise. I don’t think it really hurts the team much but the dude has the speed of a tortoise and runs like a sloth - can’t imagine he’s an NFL pick.

Boykin is without a doubt our best in terms of stats, but I'm not so sure he the "best". Personally I'd love him to stay, but I think he (and Finke) is the "safe" play for BK. Less upside, but phenomenal hands and consistent.

Our O could be "formidable" like OMM suggested if the OL comes along and we find a RB (Jafar development hopefully) and at WR..... if some guys were moved around. Let Austin have the W. Let Claypool/Lenzy/Young rotate heavily at X, and Keys/Finke rotate heaving at Z. If he stays... move Miles back and forth between W and Z. Some speed packages, and some hands packages... would love to see Austin/Lenzy/Keys as the speed. Austin/Boykin/Keys or Boykin/Lenzy//Finke would also be great matchup problems.

Regardless, WR, with or without Boykin is one of the lowest concerns on the list. My concerns, in order are OL, LB, DT, CB, and RB. WR/TE/S/DE/QB are more than fine.

And most important, Boykin is probably best served leaving now (for himself).
