Cool voice, he could narrate movies when Morgan Freeman retires.

Really hope he takes that leap this year

I think he can if Long, BK, and Wimbush are smart.

Just for one year, we should go back to the Charlie Weis offense: Run, Run, 50/50 Deep Ball

Let the RB’s do what they can, then chuck it up to Boykin and Claypool down the field and let them do their thing.

(Of course I’m over-stating my position... I just think the 50/50 ball needs to be a much larger part of the offense for the next year. Limiting Boykin and Claypool by not giving them those chances, and asking Wimbush to be a pinpoint passer rather than encouraging him to take some chances on those throws, would be putting a bunch of square pegs into round holes.)

I very much agree, to a point. A good team will sniff that out and audible to a Bobby D special. A bend don't break defense will suffocate a team that breathes that way.

We do need more 50/50 and deep shots because it fits the personnel but we need to be continually pushing Wimbush to develop on the simple swing passes and getting comfortable going through his reads.

The game plan will determine everything. The good news is, Wimbush has already built up some cache as a legit threat to run so hopefully early defensive plans will be built on stopping that.

I think we will see a different BW this year behind center, to what degree will be dependent on the WR group. Using the example above, if Boykin and Claypool go up and grab those balls more often the not, the confidence will be there. I don't care who you are, when you know you have a 50/50 shot of being bailed out no matter what, you become more confident and take more chances.

BW will settle down on the short routes, the swing passes and the tuck and carry plays. He will have more confidence that when backed into a situation, he has 2 WR on the field that will bail him out. It then just comes down to which read is open.

IMO

Just a thought, with the emergence of Book and Boykin's skillset has really brought back perhaps the least exciting football play, THE BUBBLE SCREEN.

It has at times been a big part of Kelly's playbook, and often times instead of going to the more typical quick, make-you-miss kind of player, has gone to big bodied receivers. Players that in one on one situations could be relied upon to drag a smaller corner/fall forward for 3-5 yards. Notable were the screens to Michael Floyd and Cory Robinson.

With Wimbush under center he couldn't consistently get it out accurately enough to make the bubble screen screen work. Now that play is back in the playbook.

not a fan of the boring bubble, but if it moves the chains, i'm happy to be bored.

Sigh...Looks BW was never able to settle down and consistently complete those short routes and swing passes...

Miles has really grown as a player. I'm so impressed with the strides he's taken since that amazing play last season. You can really see the confidence he plays with now.

He's definitely making a case for Sundays.
I'd like to see him come back next year and further develop.
Another full year with good passing could take him to the next level.

He is definitely the alpha at WR.

If he continues develop he will get a shot to play on Sundays. Now he will never be a number 1, due to lack of speed. But he definitely could turn into a solid number 2 possession receiver and red zone threat in the NFL.

Miles has found time to attend the Cam McDaniel School of Photogenics between all his TD receptions this year.

Having Ian throwing the rock to him helps. I think he is also doing a better job catching the ball with his hands and not his body.

Obviously Book has something to do with this. But.... I once said, when Boykin and ESB were recruited in the same class, that ESB was the better talent. Still think he was/is. However, Boykin seems to just care more. And that matters. It matters to this team and it matters to this season.

Agree, but I guarantee you that ESB would have loved to had Book-like balls thrown to him, and would have been a very different story.

I don't think its Book making Boykin look good. I think Boykin has always had the talent/potential to do what he's been doing the last 2 games. But its impossible to showcase your skills when the original starting QB is so bad at throwing the ball.

Corey Davis-lite. Coaches were raving about him last spring post-Balis. Dude has the attitude and desire to be a great receiver. He's gonna do well this year, and will ball out Corey Davis style next year

would love to see him get to 1000 this year. He'll have to pick it up a bit, but his average has definitely come up since Book. Just looked at his avg per game, and was a little shocked to see his meager yards vs WF.

I'm listening to an old II podcast (from before the Pitt game) and Tim et al. seem to think Boykin won't be around next year.

Is this a common sentiment? Because I think it'd be a mistake.

I was confused by that also. He's becoming a very good college WR but wouldn't think he'd test well so probably a mid-late round pick. Not sure why they think he won't be back.

Agreed. I can't imagine he would run anything better than a high 4.6.

if he stays, and i hope he does.... i hope they move Austin to another WR spot so that he and Boykin are on the field at the same time.

I don't think there are many bigger fans of Boykin on here than me, but I think he's gotta follow the Corey Davis path: good 4th year, great 5th year.
