Sucks to lose a highly rated player, but OL is where we can afford to lose a player.

A buddy of his here told me the news about a week ago. But asked that I not say anything till it was official. He said that Hoge didn't get along well with the coaching staff... presumably because he felt he should be playing but wasn't. I don't know Hoge personally, but if he does have low football IQ that could explain a few things. I really wish he hadn't picked BYU though. I hate having to hear how they "swayed someone away from Notre Dame. Must mean that BYU is better." But still wish him luck in his future.

Stumbled upon this tweet from back in September. Anyone have any clue on what grounds Hoge petitioned the NCAA to still have 3 years of eligibility left?

Yeah, it was complaints about his treatment by Hiestand. No italics.

...its competition for playing time.

Over the past few years, if you've won Oline playing time at ND, at least we know you've earned it through competing in practice and on game day.

...but someone has to lose. How you respond tells the world exactly the limits of your character. Catering to sniveling like this is theft of opportunity to develop/strengthen character.

I don't EVER expect the NCAA to do anything that has any mooring to principles that might lead to development of character and values. Those things happen IN SPITE OF the NCAA, and are a natural benefit of sports. As an institution, the presence of the NCAA should amplify the development of character and values...it routinely mutes them.
It is an abject failure in utilizing principles which enable its own mission, and it is hard to think of an institution more antithetical to its stated purpose....US Congress maybe?

One of my customers who played at BYU told me Tristen is starting and doing a great job. He said they usually don't get that high level of player/recruit at BYU or when they do it is via a transfer.

I don't know if he'll play next year or how much he'll play in '15 but I have a good feeling he'll be the starting center for the 2016 National Champions next to Elmer and Nelson at guards, McGlinchey at RT and Bars at LT.

If Malik is 75% of JT Barrett (and I think he will be), I don't think expecting a national championship caliber team in '16 is unrealistic in the least bit.

Sorry for digging up this gem, Crusader. I like you, but damn...

I always thought this was weird though because Hiestand literally bragged about the kid when he was a freshman. I'm sure Harry is a tough guy to play for, but most people appreciate it in the end.

My understanding was that the football IQ was missing in Hieatands opinion.

Not everyone can handle that kind of coaching. I wonder if he would have stuck around if he would have known Harry would leave?

Don't be sorry. Not even I get em all right. But if Malik doesn't break his leg the 2016 never happens like it did and 2017 would've been better.

looked physical and mobile as a pulling guard last night for BYU versus Navy. Started at RG wearing #69 (would have thought this number banned at BYU but whatev's)

Is this his 6th year?

yeah, a year after Book, Kramer, etc.

That game last night was a total surprise to me until I heard Navy had non contact this off season.

Memo to fans- if you team has no contact practices, they will lose.

it was really really bad, i generally felt bad for those Navy defenders especially their MLB Fagot who played his heart out

glad to see him get back on the field. He was pretty dominant last night in their bowl game versus UCF.
