Man, I think he looked great in that recent clip. It's great to see him getting rid of blocks and really nice closing speed. I'm drooling...sorry.

Yeah he really sorts through traffic well and seems to be able to stop RBs momentum abruptly. Hope he can improve in space, but no doubt he's got a foundation to be a solid ILB.

Not a take at UF? hmmmmm. Can you elaborate LL.

Right now UF has Jerome Baker and Adonis Thomas committed and they are going after Jeffrey Holland and Roquan Smith. There is a lot of talk out there right now that they aren't prepared to take Tevon's commitment with those 4 guys being in play. I think there is a good chance this changes as Baker and Thomas seem to be looking around but thats how it stands as of now. This is also one of the reasons that some (myself included) were a little gun shy about accepting his commitment and shutting down LB recruiting. Good news is we have Bilal and that concern is gone.

Yup, this played out as a win/not loss thanks to Bilal. We should get Coney's commitment and if he follows through then it's a win/win situation. Either way home run at LB for this class!

I have watched his highlights a few times and one thing that really stands out to me is that he fills his gap and somehow stays unengaged. The OL or lead blockers simply cannot engage him. He won't allow it.

It's either Detective James Gordon or Commissioner Gordon! If we are talking about my boy James Gordon you better be getting the facts straight.

Lol. Such a rookie mistake. I am better than that.

Jerome Baker just flipped to OSU wonder if this opens up Coney's spot and he commits there now

Well, if Coney still commits to the Irish on Thursday then I feel much more confident in it sticking. I would rather this happen now than in January or February. Still feeling pretty good here, just watch the CB's tomorrow, they should give us a good indication one way or the other.

Can't see why anyone would commit to Fla with the uncertainty of their HC position. If he pulls the trigger for the Gators, I would expect him to revisit it if Will doesn't survive.... which all indications are he will not. Hopefully the Irish stay on him even after his announcement if he doesn't choose ND.

Better for it to happen now then in the future. It was inevitable.

IMO, this doesn't change anything for Thursday but it could before it's over.

He seems like a very disciplined player and is a pretty sure tackler but I just haven't been that impressed with his film. Based on his offer list a lot of folks who know a lot more than me like him so I'd be more than happy if he committed. I suppose there are worse players to have on your team than a disciplined, reliable tackler at mlb.

I like that the ball stops advancing when he makes contact and I like that he refuses to be blocked, however he doesn't seem to "run around" blocks. He's also fast for that position which is good for the "pitch and catch" style that so many of our opponents play. VanGorder will have him slobberknocking in no time.

Why would the Irish stay on Coney if he were to verbally commit to Florida? It would be a clear indication that Coney is most comfortable with the college course requirements of a University of Alabama scholarship athlete.

It's not always about where you go for your education...sometimes it's about what you do with it. Some kids know themselves well enough to know that they aren't
up to grind. Oh...and some kids want to stay closer to home where their support is.

I'd actually be more worried about the opposite. That he commits to ND but is the first recruiting phone call made by whoever replaces Muschamp come December, and decides he'd really rather stay closer to home. No one's committing to Will Muschamp at this point, but they might to Florida when there's a new coach on board.

Good news is that he's an EE, so that window to flip is narrower than most. And that our LB class is pretty solid regardless now with Bilal. But still, I'd wait to declare Coney Irish until I see him enrolled.

Whoever is the new Florida coach wont have time to recruit him. Say a new coach is hired Dec 1....that leaves 1 month and a huge dead period to build a relationship and convince him to come to a school that he turned down already. There are going to be better options for the new coach to recruit at LB than Coney and I dont see time put into Coney from the new staff to reel him in.

I agree with the short window of opportunity, but if I'm a new coach, I am reaching out to all the commits in hopes of getting them to stay. Then I'm quickly looking at those who looked very promising and trying to reel them in. Especially if they're 4 & 5 star in-state talent.

If there are that many better options to recruit at LB, other than Coney, why are so many excited about getting him to sign with the Irish? I was under the assumption he was a massive sleeper pick, ready to skyrocket up the rankings when people see his senior tape/numbers. Is this not the case?

Do we not have better options as well? (side note, I really wanted Osa Masina).

It seems like there aren't many (if any) better MLBs out there with the requisite grades and interest. And Coney seems to have been near the top of the staff's LB board for quite some time. For example, see Darrin Kirland. Significantly higher 247 Composite Rating than Coney, and has allegedly been looking around since UM took a dump this year. We probably could have picked him up if we wanted to, but the staff apparently chose to pass in favor of Coney.

I'm still nervous about him defecting to UF, but it's much less of an issue now with both Barajas and Bilal in the fold. If Coney is BvG's favorite MLB prospect (with whom we have a decent shot), then he's worth the risk.

I have to disagree here. When a new staff comes in to a big time program the most common thing for them to do is make claim to whats already commited and then farm the local area looking for quality prospects that most likely aren't the high profile kids. Ex. look at what Texas did last year when Strong took over. He didn't go out trying to sign all these five stars with a short recruiting calendar. He reached out to Grant Blankenship, Kolin Hill, etc. Quality prospects that he thought could be easy flips. I think Tevon is the perfect example of a prospect a new staff would try to get in with.

Masina just gave out a top 3 and ND was not in it.
