Taking Rochell's spot at DE. Think he will be one of the surprises of the season.

I tend to think so as well. He's a big guy that can move. He just needs to focus on technique and I think he could end up being quite good.

Weird weird weird transfer. But maybe means Khalid Kareem is just better and going to play more. But definitely not good news for ND

Kick 2 DB’s and worst LBer out and you’ll be at 85. Easy math

Not to mention the periodic rave reviews about Ade. Still hate to see us lose a guy like Hayes though. There was definitely a role for him on this team unlike some other guys that don’t really have a path to playing time.

WTF? Why?

Even if Kareem’s that good, Hayes plays a bunch.

I’m betting this was the first of several convos with the coaching staff where they say, “we’re going to use you in this way on the field and in the rotation. You might not view it as ideal, sooooooo...”

Good luck to Jay and I still can’t believe he made it here and graduated from ND. His whole recruitment was weird where a kid from Brooklyn committed and never visited. It sucks losing senior leadership but I’m thrilled from a talent perspective we will get our best pass rushers on the field. Still blows my mind between him and Trumbetti they had two career sacks between the two of them in their ND career. So clearly we are upgrading that postion and it’s totally fine with me

God bless Jay and thanks for making the tough choice and coming here.

Per Driskell he quit the team and tried to come back and some where like GTFO. sounds like he wasn’t starting over Kareem and Ade was pushing for snaps and Jay didn’t like that.

So we will not be missing a guy who had one career sack and quit the team. So good luck Jay and thanks for giving what you had

Yeah, shocking and disappointing to hear, but in hindsight, not surprising in the slightest.

This pretty much validates that the things we've heard about Kareem and Ade being the real deal are not just blowing smoke.

This sucks from a sheer depth perspective. I mean, we'll be okay with just Kareem and Ade at SDE, but who plays there if we suffer an injury to one of them? I guess you could have Daelin move over there for some snaps since they do that anyways a lot on passing downs.

Kareem was more productive last year with far less snaps I think we are good plus you got jayson ade coming in who will push for snaps this year

I don't know. If he quit the team - even temporarily - that's unfortunate. But I don't see how we're better off without a fifth-year senior and (at worst) solid rotational player at a position of eternal need. Even if Kareem would have played ahead of him.

Maybe he just wasn't improving in the pass rush department while the other two are.

Not sure what to believe but if so, he wouldn’t be the first guy that I would’ve chose. Pretty surprised by this both ways. Regardless of who’s decision it was.

This doesn't really tell us much. One could argue the reason he's transferring is because Elston has talked up and seen so much from the younger guys

or....

The skeptic in me says Elston knew about this coming transfer and intentionally talked up the other players so no one would hit the panic button when it finally became public.

Picking between the two, my money is on the latter.

TheMoneyLadder_v3_948x355.jpg

And that isn't to say our young guys aren't showing progress.

Zero reason for Hayes to transfer if he was outstanding in spring practice. Transferring is rarely the preferred course of action to take if you are interested in a pro careeer.

But I will completely retract this comment if Hayes transfers to Bama

If he was going to be a malcontent in the locker room then better to move on. We’ll see how bad we miss him. I’m sure his production will be exceeded by anyone who takes his place. He was a small DT playing DE imo. I would rather see someone leave then squeeze a player out who loses their scholarship. How many of these work out? Can someone provide some examples?

Wow, great minds do think alike

My top three were

Rutgers
Syracuse
Virginia

But I didn’t think about Temple... which was a clear miss.

Word was he wants to be close to home (who knows hiss definition of close) so I didn't include UVa which would be a solid move for life after football.

I included Syracuse because...

A. NYC folks act like Syracuse is the Thee New York State University

B. He's a Film & TV major so S.I. Newhouse is for him what Cal Tech/MIT is for rocket scientists
