'14 NY OT/SDE Jay Hayes (Notre Dame Signee)

stlnd01

Was away. Now returned.
If he was going to be a malcontent in the locker room then better to move on. We’ll see how bad we miss him. I’m sure his production will be exceeded by anyone who takes his place. He was a small DT playing DE imo. I would rather see someone leave then squeeze a player out who loses their scholarship. How many of these work out? Can someone provide some examples?

Very few. Which is why it makes even less sense. I'm trying to think of an outbound 5Y from ND who's done well enough at his new school to make the NFL. Anyone?

If a guy's not good enough to start at Notre Dame as a senior, it's hard to see how starting at a lesser program will really help his NFL standing. And starting is no guarantee, especially since he's now missed spring ball at whatever school he lands on. Even if Jay was getting jumped on the depth chart with us, he turned a corner last year and was still going to be a regular player on one of the better defensive fronts in the country. He could have parlayed that into an UDFA situation.

This just feels like a lose-lose for all involved. Good on Jay for getting his degree, and sticking out some earlier tough times. But he's a frustrating loss.

Kick 2 DB’s and worst LBer out and you’ll be at 85. Easy math

You still have to account for one or more of the following: academic suspension, off the field suspension/expulsion, additional transfers.

It doesn’t occur every season but it’s more likely than not.

He must have lost his compass or his GPS is on the fritz. Jay buddy, Oklahoma is not closer to home. At least stop in WalMart and pick up their 2018 road atlas for $7. It includes a listing of every WalMart in case you need something like a compass or GPS.

Wonder exactly what it was that Bk was referring to about expectations at ND? Was it "quitting" the team and trying to come back? Craptastic grades? Or did the fact that he would be 2nd string as a Sr just crush him?

Not that he is going to start at OK anyhow so I dont see a difference there...

Doesn't Oklahoma run a 3-4? Being an end in a 3-4 is likely his best position. That's the position he was recruited to play if I'm not mistaken.

Last week or so aside, there appears to be some real big hitters interested in Jay. What was the issue that led to him parting ways?

Pissed at the Irish and wants to get revenge on the field unknowingly that the Irish don't play the Bulldogs until 2019! lol

LoL..

if only his thirst for attention translated on the field of play. But alas... good luck to him.

Was interested to see how he was doing so I looked up his stats. Has 1 solo tackle and 1 assisted tackle on the year so far.

I still genuinely believe he has no ambitions of playing in the NFL and wanted to spend his final season of football living it up at an SEC school.

He’ll have a lot more fun in Athens vs South Bend and won’t have to go to class if he doesn’t want to...unless hes serious about Masters degree.

I wish we had him in our rotation especially w/ injuries piling up but ND is getting lots of love nationally for their front 4 so best of luck to Jay...he’s missing out.

Still would be nice to have him since Myron got hurt. Jay could have easily made the move back to 3-tech to back up Tillery with Ademilola. Ade and Khalid are both better all around DE's than Jay is tho.

I’d gladly take him. Don’t think he’d start on this line but would be good depth, especially against the run. Was solid last year.
