No one posted the update from ISD regarding Anzalone?

Penn State seems to have done some negative recruiting that didn't sit well and Christain has heard that Anzalone is referring to ND commits at The Opening as his "teammates at Notre Dame."

ALLGATOR you aren't sweating this though right? Isn't UF stacked at LB already this cycle? Or was he going to play offense for you guys?

Take it with a grain of salt, but a recent Bleacher Report said it looks like PSU. Before you jump all over me, remember, I said take it with a grain of salt. LOL

The coaches wanted him very bad. I think most fans could careless the problem is Dillon Lawson is an idiot and will not make it in so we might need another LB. I personally really like the the guys we got last cycle and this cycle so I am not worried. Plus Kain Dabo in 2014 is unreal (hope we get him) and would just jump Alex the moment he stepped on campus. The coaches however really really liked Alex so I guess nice pick up for ND

Per 247 he has made his decision, intersting note that I dont think has been brought up; he usually only played the first half because they were blowing out teams.

Steve still thinks Notre Dame

Bleacher Report is not worth a grain of salt

Anzalone is an ILB recruit and ALLGATOR is not a troll, if we were in the position they are for Daub/Anzalone we would be saying the same thing

Wooly I agree with what you are saying except the OLB thing. He is listed as one everywhere, but he is being recruited as an ILB (WILL will probably be his destination) for ND.

To be fair I did kind of lead ALLGATOR into minimizing the loss of Anzalone. And I do think we need him more than UF does.

And if we didn't get him, I would TOTALLY be talking about how it doesn't matter because we have Martini and hopefully Garrett in the 2014 class. lol (/dead serious)

Okay guys. Back to 3-4 versus 4-3. When recruiting sites talk about inside versus outside, their bias is to a 4-3. An outside 4-3 linebacker could be either an inside, or outside linebacker in a 3-4. .

Bog-brother, IMO in most cases you can take the Sam(4-3) & Mike(4-3) to carry over to a 3-4 depending on style of your 3-4 you want to run..... Will(4-3) will be a little undersized think of a 4-3 Will as a big Safety....

Ideally in a 3-4 you want to get the same production out of both your OLB's. They should both have the ability to rush and cover if not you lose the element of surprise. 3-4 defenses are built on the simple logic of deception to show 1 thing and do another. If you do not get equal or similar production from both OLB's offenses will be able to slide their protection to your strength which in turn will expose you.

The discussion of Cat/Dog- Sam/Rush is very much over rated IMO. Example the "Dog" position cannot be a OLB that is just good in coverage because against teams that use TE in pro formation he must be able to set the edge (which takes a man) against the run.

Or an Example of "Cat" if you put him in position to rush off the edge but he also has to keep outside contain (say against #3 swinging out to flat) he has to have the physical ability and athleticism to be able to break off blitz and cover #3.

Ideally I'd take 2 Jaylon's and just have 1 bulk up 15lbs. heavier then the other.... Cat vs. Dog

Now this is all based off my knowledge and coaching experience (my opinion).... when talking about ILB's in a 3-4 it all starts up front.... what type of scheme are you running? Is the DL 2 gapping or 1 gap attacking? Are you a heavy zone blitz team?

Best Examples would be:
Steelers 3-4
Patriots 3-4
Cowboys 3-4
Texans 3-4
Chargers 3-4
Those are 5 teams that all run 3-4 defenses but vary in a multitude of ways....

Back to ILB's you can a a variation of ILB's depending on your front.... If your front 3 is that big and strong and they can 2 gap you're probably going to go with to ILB's that can really run Side line to sideline making plays with speed.... If you are a 1 gap teams you want your Mike to be the hammer and your Wilb to be the speed... And if you have a more athletic but undersized front 3 you're probably going to have two Sledgehammers playing ILB.

I think you guys get him and I hope you do as well. We on the other hand need and want Ebenezer. I said this in one of my first post on this site. I havent changed my opinion.

Question: Is there any shot ND would play him at H back I didnt watch ND play last year?

0% chance of anything like that happening.

The amount of positive buzz out there right now for ND is astounding. I want to buy it... sure seems like ND is the bet if you're the betting type...... but I'm pretty nervous still. Would be an absolutely huge pickup.

We need a elite CAT if we do get Anzalone to make this a fantastic LB class. I feel pretty good about Muhammad right now and he would be perfect.

I have complete confidence we'll get an elite CAT prospect... Muhammed or Drennon or maybe both.

Not trying to clog up AA's thread with more LB debate, but why do few people slate Mattingly for CAT? Seems tall, rangy and quick on film. Plus, he's still got a lot of room to put on strength (lower body at least). I would think Smith-Deeb-Anzalone-Mattingly gives us the ideal set of LBs for our system (barring guys like Foster, Savaiinaea and other guys that are off the board or huge reaches).

Sorry if it's been posted already (I have looked), but did the Opening release when they will be airing his commitment? I still haven't seen anything other than sometime on either the 7th or 8th.

I thought he looked skinny and was originally projected to be a 2nd Councell. I was thinking of kids like Ishaq, Okwara, and Niklas as CAT size. If he grows, that's great. He certainly is athletic enough.

I think Anzalone is ideal at WILL.

CAT guys typically have a massive base and enough size/length to fight off offensive tackles i.e. Ishaq, Okwara, and formerly Fleming
