Hey all, I have been reading this forum for months but have waited until now for my first post so forgive me if I mess this up since I don't really know how it all works.

I was following the Rivals Midwest recruiting chat with Josh Helmholdt and someone asked about Jaylon Smith. He said at the Best of the Midwest combine there was a very strong pro-ND vibe from Jaylon and that he has a "strong affinity for the Irish."

Welcome!

Good info, I would absolutely love it if this kid has a "pro-ND vibe".

Keep posting, and if you're over in Texas, tell those Texas recruits to head to South Bend

It is becoming a trend:

From the Rivals chat:

Josh Helmholdt:
Early on I was surprised I did not get more of an OSU vibe with Jaylon, and that trend seems to be continuing. If I had to guess right now, I do not see him ending up at Ohio State. Then again, there were several prospects I would have said that about last summer who ended up signing with the Buckeyes. Urban Meyer has a lot of mojo on the recruiting trail right now

I'm just thinking of the potential that this defense could have if a player like Smith came along. Lynch, Tuitt, Nix, Jones, Day, Okwara, Grace, Rabasa, Councell, Shephard, Niklas, Williams. Just, wow. Size and speed are scary. I think we forget sometimes the quality of athlete we have on defense.

So what do you think Trinity?

Ha his recruiter at FSU is telling him not to be afraid to leave home to play football because that is what he did. Wanna guess who his recruiter is? Greg Hudson, Cincinnati Moeller grad and former Irish linebacker and catcher on the baseball team.

To recap the full update on the FSU site. He saw the FSU defense against ND and liked how they played. His recruiter went to ND but is telling him to leave home, and his only planned visit right now is to Notre Dame.

As a side note Oregon could be close to offering as well.

Greg Hudson is also the guy who lied to Aaron Lynch and told him he would fail at ND. He said Aaron shouldn't leave the state.

I think we need to have a 9-3, maybe even 10-2 or better season to land him.

Hudson got pwned by Alford on the Lynch recruitment. Really funny story.

Who better to serve as his host on a (hopeful) official visit than Lynch? At least he could talk about how wrong and dirty FSU is.

No real update to report. I just thought it was interesting that Jaylon retweeted Steve's tweet earlier about us being in good shape with the two touted o-linemen (Bivin and McGlichey).

He would start over Ishaq/Shembo this year?

Ishaq, Shembo, Okwara, and Niklas all play CAT; Smith, Councell, and Spond play DOG (Slaughter, Shumate, and Baratti could get looks there too) . If Diaco wants to put out a team built for the types of plays and formations he calls then I believe Councell/Spond will start this year and Jaylon Smith could surpass them as a Freshman.

sidenote I think Shembo should play WILL

Those two are both more likely to play CAT this year though, correct? There was a rumor on the board of one playing CAT and the other DOG so both could play at once though.

correct even though im still a believer in Shembo playing WILL and Niklas/Williams playing CAT maybe even if Spond/Councell dont produce and we dont get Smith Ishaq plays DOG since he is very athletic

No way Shembo ends up playing WILL. He is a pass rusher through and through.

Jaylon Smith, on the other hand, could be an amazing WILL linebacker.

Though I pretty much agree that Smith could play Will (he played DE, LB, and CB at combine) either Sapp/Wiltfong said he is perfect for DOG and Shembo would be better at WILL then Fox/Calabrese and thats what he was recruited as, a middle linebacker
